My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The best relationships begin as friendships.

Sometimes you need more spice and sizzle when devouring a book. Other times you want that sweet story that makes you gush at the great love resonating throughout the read. Lauren Blakely went a bit rogue on The Sexy One—penning it in a dual POV, pumping it with more passion, and sweetening this story with more sugary goodness than her previous romances—and I LOVED EVERY MAGICAL MINUTE!!!

It didn’t take me but a few pages to realize that this romance from the lovely Lauren Blakely was different. Different in a sweet sigh sort of way. Different in a fluttery butterfly way. Different in THE BEST WAY.

Ahhh…The Sexy One. Don’t let this story’s name fool you; there is so much more sweetness than sexiness buried beneath The Sexy One. Subtly sexy and sugary sweet, The Sexy One is a good old-fashioned love story with a forbidden twist.

Simon Travers, a single and super sexy dad, develops a friendship with his little lady’s beautiful nanny, Abby. That friendship is full of sparks that are ready to ignite into a firestorm. This book was ready to go boom.

“If you look up ‘hot single dad’ in the dictionary, you’d find his picture…He’s the prize in the available dad sweepstakes.”

Oh did Simon make me melt into a pool of goo from head to toe. Six feet three inches of hotness with broad shoulders, prize abs, facial stubble, dark blond hair, and crystal blue eyes made for one panty-melting piece of perfection. Add that hotness to the sexy and sweet single dad and I was DONE. DONE!

“For a bonus prize, add in that he’s an amazing father. That’s some sexy kryptonite right there.”

HOLY SWOON! I’ve succumbed to Simon and I haven’t even hit 5% into the story. This man is already everything and he hasn’t even opened his mouth yet.

Simon can’t help but be attracted to his nanny whose personality is as beautiful as her looks. Abby is a breath of fresh air and sunshine all wrapped into one pretty package. I LOVED SIMON. I LOVED ABBY. I wanted a love connection between these two beautiful people.

“Insta-lust. It’s morphed into a lot more than lust in all this time she’s spent in my home, with my family, with my kid. Admiration. Fondness. The real deal.”

Temptation is tough. So tough that temptation turns into a kiss, a scorching and sweet kiss, a kiss that can’t become more.

“I slant my mouth to hers. Our lips touch, and it’s like a world that was ordinary has now turned extraordinary…My entire body is alive…I’m lost in a kiss I barely saw coming, one I’m powerless to stop.”

Abby is affected by that kiss, the one that rocked her world, just like Simon.

“This man isn’t just turning me on. He’s turning me into a woman who wants only to be taken.”

The passion poured from the pages as the chemistry crashed down on this couple. Simon is smitten. Though a relationship with his little girl’s nanny, his employee, is out. Forbidden.

“I might have stepped over a line yesterday, but that doesn’t give me permission to do it again. That’s the thing about lines. We make them, we break them, and we keep them. This is a line I need to maintain.”

The Sexy One is a tender friends-to-lovers tale that touched me HARD. I was quickly captivated and claimed. The Sexy One has THE CLICK—that connection to the characters and everything about the story from inside out—where I could not help but fall fast and furiously in INSTA-LOVE.

What I LOVE about Lauren Blakely’s books is that they aren’t just sets of series; they are family that are so perfectly and lovingly linked that they feel familiar. Reading each story with subtle ties to previous tales feels like coming home to characters who have carved out a piece of my heart. Characters who feel close. Characters who I love like family. Characters who feel like more.

Not the usual fire-hot and funny Lauren Blakely book that I’ve come to love in these last few interwoven series, The Sexy One is sweetness and smolder and MORE. SO MUCH MORE. So spellbinding. So swoon-filled. So sugary good. The Sexy One is a slow burn, a story that seduced me slowly and sensually in THE BEST WAY.

The perfect recipe for romance, this story is sheer brilliance from beginning to end. A breath of fresh air. The Sexy One is a ride to ROMANCE HEAVEN. I can’t help but ache for more of this blissful book as I’m not quite done swooning.

synopsis.jpg

From NYT Bestselling author Lauren Blakely comes a sexy new standalone romance…

Let me count the ways why falling into forbidden love is not my wisest move…
1. She works with me every single day.
Did I mention she’s gorgeous, sweet, kind and smart?
2. She works in my home.
Playing with my five-year-old daughter. Teaching my little girl. Cooking for my princess. Which means…
3. She’s the nanny.
And that makes her completely off-limits… But it doesn’t stop me from wanting her. All of her.

***

The other nannies in this city don’t call him the Sexy One for nothing. My boss, the amazingly wonderful single father to the girl I take care of every day is ridiculously hot, like movie star levels with those arms, and those eyes, and that body. Not to mention, the way he dotes on his little girl melts me all over. But what really makes my knees weak are the times when his gaze lingers on me. In secret. When no one else is around.

I can’t risk my job for a chance at something more… can I? But I don’t know how to resist him much longer either…
