Review – Fortunate Son by Jay Crownover

“I like you a little bit more each time you prove to me just how flawed you are.”

Long-time readers like me have been begging for more Marked Men, and Jay Crownover has granted us with second generation of her first book family. What a gift! How special to know that one of your favorite authors of one of your favorite series has brought beloved characters back to life with a new generation that’s just as poignant and powerful as that of their parents.

Told through a stunning musician and her sports star muse, Fortunate Son is a tangled and hard-fought hero and heroine romance anchored by strength, second chances, and serendipity. Its prose is powerful and passionate, a journey of love, lyrics, and life. I slipped into these characters’ souls, became their voices, and felt every feel they had to give. There was so much intrigue and angst, complexity, and moving parts, and I loved watching Ry and Bowe battle every bit, growing stronger as one in this spectacular and stunning story. You can feel the heat and heart radiating from Ry and Bowe … the chemistry and deep connection just penetrate through the pages.

Wholly original and heartfelt, written with spirit and soul, Fortunate Son is an irresistible tale of love, friendship, family, and self acceptance. It was so easy to fall in love with every word, every character, and everything. Through her spellbinding and heartfelt writing, Crownover shows the beauty among the broken, the flaws that make the human, and the courage to chase your dreams or make new ones.

Fortunate Son brought that same heady, hit my heart, lost-in-this book feeling from when I met my first Jay Crownover book, Rule!! It’s the perfect fit to the Marked Men series: uniquely-told, wholly felt tales that stand on their own pedestals. With its powerful and passionate prose, I could only surrender to the spell and song of Fortunate Son. Another epically inked story that marked my heart and soul. That Crownover crack strikes again!

“Whenever any one of us from back in the day feels like we’re about to fall, there are a whole lot of hands ready to catch us.”

A top 2021 romance!

Ry Archer and Bowe Keller are as different as night and day. But that doesn’t stop the childhood frenemies from reconnecting whenever one of them needs some help tackling any of life’s major puzzles, like figuring out why getting what you always thought you wanted isn’t living up to all the hype. They might constantly rub each other the wrong way (except for the times when they rub each other the really-really right way), but there is no denying they’ve always made one hell of a great team. They manage to balance each other out… when they aren’t driving each other crazy.

For Ry, he thought he had the perfect girl, the one who was going to run headfirst into a methodically planned future. He was going to marry young and have the same kind of legendary, life-long romance his parents did… or so he believed. His girl was going to stand by his side as he chased his dream of being a professional football player all the way to the NFL.

He was wrong.

Now, Ry’s gotta figure out the difference between a bruised heart and a broken one, and the only person who can teach him the difference is Bowe.

Bowe always felt like she had to run before she learned to walk to keep up with her father’s musical legacy. He’s her hero, and she wants nothing more than to make him proud. Bowe’s about to figure out that maybe she wasn’t meant to be in a rock and roll band and that it is possible she let her father’s success cloud her idea of what making music should be. Bowe needs to find her own path to fame, and there’s a good chance she wouldn’t be brave enough or bold enough to start over if Ry Archer hadn’t charmed his way back into her life when she least expected it.

Some days they’re enemies. Other days they’re lovers. For a while, they were strangers. But now, it feels more like they might have always been soulmates.

Eventually, Ry and Bowe realize that letting go of an old dream and creating a new one is much easier to do with the right person by your side.

Review – Bad Saint by Monica James

Bad Saint by Monica James
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Just WOW!!! Where has Monica James been hiding all my life? I finally met this author’s words and again WOW. I was BLOWN AWAY by this author’s superb story-telling. BAD SAINT is a book I dove into blindly, but one that became my drug. I was ENAMORED from the first page—UTTERLY CONSUMED with every word that I devoured like crack. I couldn’t get enough hits of this heady and heart-pounding delight.

Two broken hearts longing to be whole.
Two souls that are dead apart but alive together.
Two soulmates fighting for freedom, hand-in-hand, as they battle demons through the darkness.
Willow and Saint, angel and devil who must battle hell together.

Saint and Willows’ chemistry is UNDENIABLE. One look is all it takes for their electricity to detonate. I felt it through the pages, this combustible chemistry that MELTED ME.

“You belong to me, and you hate yourself for it.”

Deliciously dark, pulse-pounding, and sinfully sexy, Bad Saint is an adrenaline rush from beginning to end. A irresistibly riveting roller coaster ride of tantalizing tension, terrifying thrills and touching tenderness that’s the sweetest torture. A can’t-put-it down delight that will leave you aching for more.

I was kidnapped on my honeymoon by three masked men.

Blindfolded.
Bound.
Destination unknown.

I was told to stay silent and abide by their rules. But they didn’t realize I wasn’t a victim…not anymore.

The open sea was my backdrop for nine torturous days. During that time, glimmers of my fate were revealed by a man with the mysterious chartreuse-colored eyes. He should have scared me, but he didn’t.

He intrigued me. And I intrigued him.

He punished me when I didn’t listen, which was every single day. But beneath his cruelty, I sensed he was guarding a grave secret.

I was sold.
And in a game of poker, no less.

My buyer? A Russian mobster who likes to collect pretty things. Now that I know the truth, I only have one choice.

Sink or swim.

And when one fateful night presents me the opportunity, I take it. I just never anticipated my actions would leave me shipwrecked with my kidnapper.

He needs me alive. I want him dead.

But as days turn into weeks, one thing becomes clear—I should hate him…but I don’t.

My name is Willow.
His name is Saint.

Ironic, isn’t it? He bears a name that denotes nothing but holiness yet delivers nothing but hell. However, if this is hell on earth…God, save my soul.

Review- Smut University by Kahlen Aymes

5 out of 5 stars

I’m used to Kahlen’s absolutely amazing writing. Im used to a long novel that owns my heart and soul. She still has my favorite book of all time. I am however, not used to a quick HOT AS HECK read. She did it like a boss. I love how she branched out there and tried something different, and absolutely slayed it.

This book had me looking over my shoulder making sure no one behind me saw the naughtiness I was reading. I really don’t care, but I don’t think my son would want to see that. Lol. I’m not going to detail anything because it would give away the story. Only thing I will say is put the hottest Male romance author who is also a professor of writing sex in stories and an aspiring romance student that is super talented…. enough to bring the mighty professor to his knees! I can’t wait for more. What an amazing new series Kahlen has started.

35k word Novella (part 1 in the series)

Welcome to SMUT UNIVERSITY!

The Art of Sex… In Writing.

The name alone would have made it the most sought-after writing course at Columbia, but it didn’t hurt that the professor was smoking hot!

Addison Tomms was an aspiring romance novelist and senior Creative Writing Major at the prestigious Ivy League university. The class was packed and judging by the tongues wagging and the obvious swooning by the male and female student body alike, she figured she was one, in maybe a hundred, serious writing students in the auditorium.

Addy knew Dr. Jackson Michaels was a New York Times bestseller many times over, and secretly, she devoured his books. His love scenes set the pages, and her body, on fire. It was no secret that the associate professor teaching the course was sexy… but was he as really as sexy as his words?

Addison had her answer on the very first day of class when the handsome Dr. Michaels taunted and teased his students with what the class actually entailed; all watching with mouths agape. He was a thousand percent more stunning in person than the television entertainment interviews she’d seen or any of the photos that she and her best friend, Michelle, had spent hours searching online.

Something stirred deep inside her when his sensual eyes raked over her because she’d been the only one brave enough to answer his first question. Her reaction was physical; his gaze felt as if he’d actually touched her, and she was more and more intrigued.

Addy knew this man would rock her world… but it wouldn’t just be between the pages.

SMUT UNIVERSITY (Part One) Excerpt

His eyes locked with mine. “Miss Tomms,” he said my name without asking who I was. A shiver ran through me that he remembered; like it foreshadowed some earth-shattering scene about to come. Those intense eyes framed by incredibly dark lashes. The strong jaw. The broad, muscular shoulders. God, that face. That f*cking sex hair. Up close it was criminal how incredibly sexy he was. He was utterly stunning.

My breath left me in a soft rush, and I sucked in another so I could speak. “Dr. Michaels,” I acknowledged with a small nod.

He had a file box in front of him that held the graded papers separated alphabetically by dividers. He reached in and slowly pulled mine out. Maybe this weird tradition he had of insisting the first assignment was printed out was his way to bring his students face-to face in order to press upon us just how intimidating he actually was. And, he was.

There was admiration in his eyes as they roamed over my face and hair, lingering on my mouth. I couldn’t help looking at his. His lips were as perfect as the rest of him, the lower one full and begging to be bitten. I cleared my throat. I felt like helpless prey; paralyzed by a mixture of fear and adulation; the venom of his incredible eyes and his scent. Whether it was his will to eat me alive or seduce me, it was certain that I would succumb to either in that moment. My heart thrummed inside my chest, blood rushing in my ears, wetness pooling between my legs. Oh, God, my legs went weak and I struggled to stand.

His long fingers bent the stack of stapled paper so that the grade was hidden from view when he held it out to me. I held the book bag to me with one arm and reached for the document with the other hand.

He pulled it back for a second, denying it to me, his brilliant eyes still burning, but now teasing into mine. I cocked one eyebrow in question and a hint of a smile graced his luscious mouth. “I’d like to see you in my office, tomorrow. I have office hours from four to six. Does that work?”

My mind was racing; wondering at the reason behind his request at the same time as my heart fell into the pit of my stomach. Did I totally screw up the assignment? I felt like I was about to throw up and wished the earth would open up and swallow me.

He cleared his throat. “Miss Tomms? Does that work for you?”

“Ummm,” I stammered. “Yes, professor. See you then.”

“Excellent.” He handed me the paper, his eyes still not breaking contact. I felt like I was falling into the deepest end of the ocean, drowning and only he could save me. I was in trouble.

“Yes, sir.”

My heart felt as if it would fly from my aching chest as I took the paper and turned, concentrating on walking without rushing to the far left of the room, taking the side stairs up to the marble lobby and then walking out of the building. I wanted to look at the grade as I clutched the still folded assignment in my hand, but something inside me hesitated. My heart felt like it would explode as I opened the folded pages and then, in astonishment flipped through the rest. There was no grade. No editorial mark-ups. Nothing.

“What the f*ck?” I exclaimed.

The morning came too quickly. I blinked my eyes to focus and swung my feet to sit up. Once the doors scraped open on the tracks, I made my way downstairs, signaling to my men I was skipping breakfast and headed in the opposite direction.

The line for the phone wrapped around the corner and down the hall, but one look at me, and most scattered. My reputation in prison had traveled far.

I caught the eye of a Stripe Back I sent here last year. Kale had murdered a gas attendant for his initiation and tried to pin it on Morgan, who happened to be there at the same time. With a little pressure, I got the proof I needed to clear Morgan’s name and sent Kale away for life.

It didn’t help that I spread some rumors so he would become someone’s bitch in a matter of days.

“Nice limp.” Rail nodded. “Rough night under the sheets?”

Kale shot him a death look but was more focused on me.

“Tell me something.” He rubbed his crew cut and leaned against the wall. “How is it that you’re in here while your old lady is shackin’ up with your old man out there?”

Rail shifted and blocked the view of the guards while Brick appeared from the cafeteria and stood on the other side. I stepped up closer so we were nose to nose, and slapped my hand down on his pencil dick.

“I will be out of here before your next date with your cellmate,” I twisted him tighter in my grip as he struggled to keep his composure, “peeling the clothes off your sister, just like I did the night you were sentenced.

He tried to lunge, but I squeezed with all my might. He stifled a scream as his veins bulged. He couldn’t afford to get put in the hole again, and he knew I knew that.

“Vineyard!” a guard yelled. “Do we have a problem here?”

I raised my hands and stepped back. “Just getting reacquainted with an old friend.”

The guard gave a red-faced Kale a questioning look. “That true?”

“Yeah,” he muttered.

“Good. Move on, then.” He waved us off as I stood back in line for the phone.

Three rings after I stated my name to the stupid recording, someone finally answered.

“Helmond’s Bar, Peggy speaking. Trigger, is that you?”

Why is she questioning me?

“Peggy, get me Morgan.”

“Oh, my God, Trigger! I thought maybe it was Brick or Rail. It’s been so jacked up without you here—”

“Peggy,” I snapped, “where’s Morgan?”

“No clue. I figured you had him dealing with somethin’.”

“Find me Cooper.”

“Do you know how hard it is to run this bar myself? The till doesn’t add up right. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Morgan keeps throwing Tess in my face. He really can be an asshole—”

“Peggy!” I shouted, and a guard glared at me.

“Cooper.”

“Fine!” she huffed and screamed for Cooper, who must have been in the bar, as he yelled back at her. “Trigger is on the phone.”

There was bickering before he tore the phone away from her.

“Hey, man, you okay in there?”

“Where is Morgan?” I didn’t have much more time. “I don’t know. He left the day before yesterday, said he’d be back tomorrow. Maybe his dad is back?” Morgan wouldn’t leave unless something came up, but why not tell Cooper or Cray?

“You heard from Links yet?” he asked. The bar must have picked up, because he started yelling over the noise.

“No. You?”

“He was here poking around yesterday, but he wouldn’t share anything.”

Really?

“Find Morgan.” “Yeah, boss.”

I hung up and went to find Brick. Something didn’t sit right.

EXCERPT

“No, Wade,” I snarled. “It’s not just that easy.”

He frowned. “What are you talking about? I realize that it’s tough, and it’s going to hurt, but baby, this is your sister! Your sister is your family. Your blood. You can’t just leave her in need.”

That was when I felt everything inside of me still.

“The first time I donated bone marrow to my sister, I was a toddler. Barely the age of two and a half,” I said, almost in a whisper. “The second time, I was four. The third? Seven. Do you see a pattern, Sergeant?

Wade frowned and tilted his head to the side, confusion spreading over his face.

“My parents had me to be their donor baby,” I whispered. “They never wanted me. I was never allowed to be a child. I was a useful object to them.”

Wade looked startled. “What do you mean by not being able to be a child?”

I laughed maniacally.

“I’m saying that I was bred to be their baby’s saving grace,” I hissed. “And I’m not doing it anymore. My sister is an asshole. My father’s a conniving bastard, and my mother is the biggest bitch known to man. Don’t you think that there’s a reason that I’ve never spoken of them?”

He looked at me like I was crazy. “Honey, you told me that you had a falling out. But this is your sister.”

I looked over at where my sister was sitting out on the front porch, silently crying her big, fat crocodile tears.

She’d always been good at them.

There was a time when I was younger that all she had to do was get that look on her face, and I’d be scared shitless.

Because if Lina wasn’t happy, nobody was happy, least of all me.

There was always going to be hell to pay if a single tear fell down Lina’s perfect cheek.

Lina also looked like a little China doll. She had perfect blonde curls, soft, milky white skin, blue eyes the color of a crayon, and she was tiny.

I, on the other hand, was none of those things but short.

I had brown hair to her blonde, brown eyes to her blue, freckled skin to her perfect complexion, and when I tried hard, I was also skinny.

Except, lately, I had been drinking beer and having the time of my life—living it like I’d always wanted to live it.

“I won’t do it,” I refused again, sounding petulant now.

I knew he didn’t understand.

Deep down, Wade was a really good man.

He’d experienced a lot in his life. He was a cop and had seen some very bad things.

But, what he did not have, was a bad family.

His family was awesome. His mom was the best mother in the whole world, and his dad was the kind of father I’d only ever dreamed of having when I was younger.

God, even his brother was the best.

He had no clue what it was like to hate your family like I did.

Hell, the only reason he hadn’t heard of them sooner was because my sister hadn’t gotten sick enough to need me.

Had she, Wade would’ve learned the truth about who my family was a hell of a lot quicker.

“I’m going to tell her that you’re thinking about it, and we can discuss it more later, okay?” Wade offered. “I don’t want you to make any hasty decisions because you’re overreacting.”

Review – Fighting For What’s His by Laura Kaye

5 out of 5 stars

I really don’t know what to say right now. I mean, Laura has left me in a book hangover of epic proportions. Every emotion is felt in this book from happy to heartbreaking to complete bliss!

One of my favorite things about Laura’s writing is that she truly brings light to what veterans go through when they adjust back to the civilian world. It’s not as easy as people think. You can tell that Laura does her research and delivers one absolutely perfect book after another.

You will love the dynamics between these two. They don’t have it easy, by any means but they find a way to come out with the best ending. Twists, turns, emotional roller coaster rides- we get them all. In short, this was another absolutely perfect book by Laura Kaye. One perfect book after another. Can’t wait for what’s next!

What has a sexy, bad-ass veteran hero…
A feisty and independent heroine who won’t hesitate to stand up for herself…
A forbidden, best friend’s younger sister conflict…

Shayna saw Billy through the windows to the gym with the fighting rings where his club met. He was on his knees facing another fighter—a woman with a long black braid—while a bigger group knelt around the two of them. Shay had just enough time to appreciate that the club included women veterans before the woman attacked him.

For a long moment, they grappled with each other until Billy managed to flip the woman and pin her to the ground.

Three visceral reactions rocked through Shayna.

An almost animalistic appreciation of Billy’s brute strength.

Arousal at the memory of Billy pinning her against the wall.

And jealousy that another woman was experiencing the feeling of the weight of his body instead of her.

Shayna’s heart tripped into a sprint as she stood there, slack-jawed and wanting…

Suddenly, Billy sprang into a kneeling position again as the woman got up and moved to the outer ring of people, and it was clear that some sort of trash-talk being thrown between them from the looks on their faces and the way the others were laughing and clapping.

And then Mo moved into the center with Billy. As big as Billy was, Mo…Mo was like a mountain. His ready smile and deep laugh had earlier put Shayna at ease and allayed any concerns she’d had that she might be invading a space where she wasn’t wanted. But now Mo looked nothing short of intimidating as he stared Billy down.

The men seemed to lunge at the same time. They slammed into each other and worked to pull each other flat to the ground, and then finally they both went down. Shayna couldn’t see who had the advantage around those cheering the two men on, and she realized that she was straining and moving to the side to get a better view.

Whatever was going on, it was much longer before the fighters traded out, and this time it was Billy coming out of the center to join those on the side. A few of his teammates shook his hand before he moved outside of the group to grab his water bottle. And then he tilted his head way back to take a long drink.

And, holy mother of sweaty hot men, Billy Parrish was freaking gorgeous.

Muscles glistening. Shorts hanging dangerously low on his lean hips. Dark blond hair made even darker from sweat. Even the fingerless black gloves he wore were sexy as fuck. His Adam’s apple bobbed as he drank.

Shayna swallowed hard herself.

He wiped his mouth on the back of his glove and capped the bottle again, and then he did a double take as he noticed her standing in the window.

Heat absolutely roared over Shayna at having been caught so blatantly ogling him. And there was a smugness to the almost-smile he wore. But he gave her a little wave and nodded his head as if to invite her inside.

The gesture should not have made any part of her feel gooey, but it seemed her crush on her brother’s best friend had resurrected enough to indeed cause gooeyness. Whether she wanted that to happen or not.

Review + Excerpt – Respect by Jay Crownover

Respect by Jay Crownover

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Light is easy to love. Show me your darkness.~ R. Queen

I love books bathed in darkness with a sliver of light, as they dig deeply into the depths of hell but somehow find a bit of heaven. Jay Crownover is a mix master of black, shadowy stories that still shine like gold. This master storyteller makes you love the ‘baddest’ of bad boys in her powerful series called The Point and The Breaking Point where the men who sway from criminals to heroes, the boyfriends that mothers would hide from if you brought them home, the boys you should probably run from too. But you can’t help but adore these saints and sinners that snag your heart.

Respect is the story of a broken-hearted but brave princess who has to flee the corrupt kingdom because she thinks the big, broken and bold prince doesn’t see her beyond a young friend. Oh how wrong this heroine is; the powerful prince sees her but does not want to corrupt her. Neither realize the power of fate. Fate has other plans and is the real ruler of this kingdom.

Time was supposed to heal all wounds, but mine felt like it was still wide open and bleeding all over the place.

Scorching, spine-tingling, and oh-so strong, Respect is the perfect fusion of light and dark, heaven and hell, and sin and salvation. Gritty with bits of glam. Dark with bits of light. Dangerous and daring. Respect is a HEADY HIGH! I was ADDICTED to Karsen and Bookers’ journey that is as emotional as it is explosive. I LOVED being back at the Point! I can’t help but become fully vested in these characters—the baddest and bravest boys with the biggest hearts and the bold heroines who stand beside them. From Bax to Booker and Dovie to Karsen, I’ve fallen for every one of the heroes and anti-heroes of the Point.

”Don’t regret this later, Karsen. If you do, it might kill me.”

Fire-hot, formidable, and full of feels, Respect is a fresh spin on romance. Jay Crownover always brings a uniqueness to her words that I’ve called ‘Crownover Crack’ since meeting Rule years ago. From Better When He’s Bad to Respect, The Point and The Breaking Point series are perfectly imperfect stories that slay with strength and soul. Respect is the perfect farewell. A HIGH-OCTANE, HEART-POUNDING ROMANCE that delivers all the way.

”The only person whose touch I ever needed was yours.”

What a powerful finish to a powerful and poignant series! I so don’t want this series to be over. Jay Crownover rocked all of these brilliant bad boy books out of the park! The addicting anti-heroes—villains fused with victors—of the Point will mark your soul, grab your heart, and stay with you forever. Bad has never been so good!!!

It was a place that was so bad, so dark, so lost in crime and violence it didn’t have a name…we simply called it the Point. It was the ending point, the breaking point, the point of no return…it was simply a place where only the strong survived and anyone else was bound to die trying.

A MUST-MEET ROMANCE & SERIES!

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful princess who called a corrupt kingdom home sweet home.

Protected and sheltered from the worst the world had to offer, she fell in love with the crumbling city that burned and blazed around her. Every dirty corner, every scary shadow, found a place within her heart. So did a man who was violent and dangerous, just like the streets she claimed as her own.

He was all business and brutality, except when it came to her. With her, he was calm, caring, and heartbreakingly patient.

He warned her over and over that he wasn’t the man for her, but she refused to listen. She never expected either the streets or their enforcer to hurt her, since she’d given her heart so completely to both.

She should have known the streets in the Point were always going to be savage, and so was the man committed to keeping control of them in the hands of criminals and bloody kingpins.

Blindsided by a betrayal which cut so deeply she was sure the wounds would never heal, the princess fled the home she loved and the man who broke her heart. Throwing away her rusted, twisted crown was supposed to help her forget. All it did was make her long for everything she left behind.  She told herself she would never go back, but in this tormented kingdom, family is everything. Eventually, she has no choice but to return.

While she was gone, the people who loved her worked hard to make the city safe, and the man who destroyed her sank deeper into the darkness. Going back shouldn’t feel like surrender… but it does. As this pretty princess hovers on the edge of the unknown, the past attacks with a vengeance. It’s a good reminder that puppy love eventually grows up and turns into something with sharp teeth and one hell of a bite.

She never asked for the keys to the kingdom. She’d much rather go out and build her own.

~Karsen~

I had no plans to leave the Point. It was ugly, mean, hard, and unforgiving, but these streets were home and I couldn’t imagine being happy anywhere else. This place had long since made my hands and the edges of my soul dirty. It was something I would be hard-pressed to hide should I go anywhere else. I’d have to spend my days trying to camouflage the filth I was so familiar with. Here, no one looked twice at the pretty teenager with shadows in her eyes and blood on her hands. I was one of many.

I wasn’t interested in leaving behind my sister or her fiancé, Race. We were an odd, dysfunctional family, but we made it work.

I didn’t want to be too far away from my mother, who was living in a group home as she slowly, painfully tried to recover from her alcoholism and PTSD from an accident she caused that ended up taking the life of a young mother and her child.

But more than anything, I absolutely didn’t want to leave him.

I couldn’t imagine a day going by without catching a glimpse of Noah Booker. I mean, he was impossible to miss. Six-and-a-half-feet tall, body built like a professional athlete, dark and brooding with the prettiest gunmetal-gray eyes, he was the entirety of every one of my teenage fantasies. I barely noticed the jagged scar dividing one side of his face. White and raised, it cut one of his black eyebrows in half, slashed over a high cheekbone, and ended somewhere under the chiseled edge of his hard jaw. He never talked about it, but Race, Booker’s boss, let it slip that Booker got the scar when he was locked up. Or maybe it wasn’t as much of a slip-up as a thinly veiled warning. Race never kept it much of a secret that my infatuation with his massive, dangerous, ex-con enforcer made him extremely uncomfortable. He’d warned me over and over again that Booker wasn’t for me. And he’d made it clear to the man who broke knees and smashed heads for a living that he was to stay as far away from me as possible.

They called it puppy love. It wasn’t.

To me, it was a vicious kind of love, filled with teeth and claws that I could feel digging at my insides every single time someone patted me on the head and told me how young I was, how much life I had yet to live. This love was rabid, and I was tired of having it on a leash. I wanted to let it free, wanted to let it sink its razor-sharp fangs into the man who had awoken the primal need inside of me. It was only fair he felt the same kind of crushing bite and painful pressure around his heart that I did every single day.

I was solely focused on getting to Booker. It barely registered I was done with high school and had new doors opening all around me. I couldn’t care less about getting my hands on my diploma. A piece of paper with Karsen Carter written on it in pretty calligraphy meant exactly nothing to me. The only thing I was focused on was the fact I was finally old enough to make my own choices. And I’d always picked Booker. Over and over again he was my number one priority.

Down Deep by Kimberly Kincaid

5 out of 5 stars

You say firefighter, I say yes please! Kimberly Kincaid definitely won me over with this one. Two strong main characters with secrets buried literally down deep. It will wind up explosive, literally and figuratively.

The two are definitely headstrong. There is a definite sizzle between the two and things are about to heat up quickly, but not in the way they hoped. When Gamble smells fire, his instincts kick in and all he can think of is getting Kennedy to safety. Once safely outside, he realizes this is more than just a fire and Kennedy is holding tight to some secrets that he needs to pull from her.

I genuinely enjoyed this story and am truly looking forward to more from the author. I was sold at a marine turned firefighter! Who wouldn’t be? 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Are you ready to go deep and feel the burn?

From USA Today bestselling author Kimberly Kincaid comes DOWN DEEP, the next standalone title in theStation Seventeen series, releasing June 18th! Grab you copy today!

Ian Gamble has a past he’d rather forget—which is exactly what he’s doing at The Crooked Angel Bar and Grill when the place catches fire. Between his active duty in the Marines and his experience as a firefighter, his instincts get him and hot, headstrong bar manager, Kennedy Matthews, to safety. But those same instincts kick into high gear when the fire is ruled an arson, and he discovers Kennedy’s got secrets of her own.

The only thing that matters more to Kennedy than her bar is her brother. When she finds out he’s in over his head with a dangerous arsonist, she’ll do anything to keep him safe—even if it means teaming up with Gamble, who’s too sharp-eyed and hard-bodied for his own good. With every step, their attraction flares hotter and the risks grow more dangerous. Can Gamble and Kennedy face their fears—and their secrets—to catch a terrifying enemy? Or will they go down in flames?

Kennedy exhaled for the first time in ten minutes. When faced with fight or flight, she’d go with fight every single time and twice on Sundays. That still didn’t change the fact that the adrenaline was a bitch to manage. Add to it that she hadn’t needed to forcibly boot anyone from The Crooked Angel in over a year—even then, Javier had done the actual handiwork—and she was definitely out of practice with the defenses that had once been daily survival skills.

You sure you’re not going to get soft on me if you move out of the neighborhood, sis?

Setting her shoulders despite the ache that was making a comeback now that her nervous system was (sort of) returning to business as usual, Kennedy spun toward the pass-through at the far end of the bar. Gamble followed her to the customer side, taking a decent-sized draw from his water before putting it out of the way, shrugging out of his leather jacket, and grabbing the nearest bar stool. She had to admit, having him stick around and walk her to her car was smart from a strategic standpoint, and his quiet, steadfast presence calmed her down.

Even if the way he’d trusted her to handle herself had revved her way up.

“So,” Gamble said, yanking her back from crazytown as he turned the stool in his grasp upside-down and put it on top of the bar. “How did a woman like you end up managing a place like The Crooked Angel, anyway?”

“A woman like me,” Kennedy repeated, treating the stool in front of her to an expert flip.

If Gamble had caught the steel in her tone, he didn’t show it by backing down. “Yeah. Something tells me they don’t teach hammerlocks like that at Remington University.”

She released her bar stool to cross her arms over her chest. “Are you saying I don’t look smart enough to have a college degree?”

“I’m saying you look like you have a story,” he qualified, and her muscles burned with a fresh shot of fatigue.

“Yeah, well, I’m not about to tuck you into bed with a glass of warm milk and tell it to you.”

Gamble flipped another bar stool over, the ink on his left arm dancing with the flex and release of his ridiculously well-defined biceps. “Why not? We’ve got a little time to kill while we finish up in here, right?”

“We do,” Kennedy said slowly, moving another stool to its proper place. They’d reached the end of the bar, where one last stool remained in front of four shots of tequila. Gamble’s eyes met hers, glinting briefly, and God, she wasn’t the only one with a story. But since she knew he wasn’t about to get all loose-lipped, and he was right about them having some time to kill while she finished closing the bar down, she figured what the hell. Her background wasn’t exactly top secret information, and it was less awkward than shooting the shit about something mundane, like the weather.

“I guess I ended up here the way most people end up where they work. I applied for the job and got it.”

Bypassing the shots of tequila and the last bar stool—at least, for now—Kennedy moved back to the pass-through at the other end of the bar with Gamble right behind her.

“Did you always want to manage a bar and grill?” he asked, mirroring her movements as she began restocking clean wine glasses in the racks behind the bar.

“Not always. When I was a kid, I wanted to be Wonder Woman.”

He rumbled out a laugh. “Not a bad pick, but something tells me there’s not a lot of availability for a position like that.”

Kennedy bit back the urge to tell him there had probably been an equal likelihood of her honestly working her way out of North Point as there had been of her becoming a superhero. “Exactly. And while office jobs work out great for a lot of people, they’re not really my jam, so I decided the restaurant industry was a good way to go.”

“Yeah, I’m not a nine-to-fiver, either,” Gamble said. “Not that I don’t respect those kinds of jobs. I just wouldn’t last more than two minutes doing one.”

Curiosity flickered in her mind, and she put it to words. “So, what did you want to be when you were a kid?”

“Race car driver,” he said, taking the last wine glass from the tray in front of them and putting it carefully in place. “But I decided it’d be safer to run into burning buildings instead, so here I am.”

Kimberly Kincaid writes contemporary romance that splits the difference between sexy and sweet. When she’s not sitting cross-legged in an ancient desk chair known as “The Pleather Bomber”, she can be found practicing obscene amounts of yoga, whipping up anything from enchiladas to éclairs in her kitchen, or curled up with her nose in a book. Kimberly is a USA Today best-selling author and a 2015 RWA RITA® finalist who lives (and writes!) by the mantra that food is love. Kimberly resides in Virginia with her wildly patient husband and their three daughters.

Review – Everything I Never Wanted by K. Street

6 out of 5 stars

6 stars. Not 5 but 6!!!

Can I just start by saying, since the day I met this author she has blown me away repeatedly by not just every book but every single word she’s written. She weaves a fairytale that is far from perfect in the beginning, but by the end there couldn’t be more perfection. She captures not just your mind but your heart and soul with each book she writes. I always know I’m in for a heartfelt journey that I will repeatedly need tissues for and that I need time away from everyone and everything because her words consume every fiber of my being.

There are quite a few twists to the story that will keep this review from going into detail plotwise. Just let me say a single dad whose heart’s been trampled is the hardest one to get through to. The author detailed this journey so incredibly that I was an emotional rollercoaster.
So in short, this book is perfect. I wouldn’t have changed a thing. I look forward to whatever comes my way next. You never cease to amaze me which is why with your debut book you became one of my top authors automatically. You prove every single time why!!

A single dad, contemporary romance standalone.

This wasn’t supposed to be my life.

One phone call was all it took to bring me back to the small town I had grown up in. Everything had changed, and staying away was no longer an option.

Four and a half years later, I was a widowed single father still here, still trying to pick up the pieces. We were doing just fine on our own, my little girl and me.

At least, we were until Camryn Parker stumbled into our lives. The woman was like a tornado after a hurricane; she was the storm I never saw approaching. Behind her beauty and sarcastic wit, she was just as broken as I pretended not to be. As hard as I tried to resist, it was impossible not to fall in love with her.

In the end, it took nearly losing it all for me to realize everything I never wanted was exactly what I needed.

Review – All the Little Lights by Jamie McGuire

All the Little Lights

All the Little Lights
by Jamie McGuire

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

”It’s good, you know, for things not to come easy. You appreciate them more.”

WOW! Jamie McGuire took my emotions on a romance roller coaster of thrills, twists, and turns that made my pulse pound and my heart soar! All the Little Lights was MY ADDICTION, and I was glued to every word of this thrilling, twisty and tender tale. The PARALYZING INTENSITY pulled me in—dark spun with light—piercing me everywhere. I equally swooned and sat in a sea of shock. All the Little Lights is a STUNNING STOTY of suspense, salvation, and soul that’s UNIQUE and UNFORGETTABLE.

”You can’t save everyone.”

“I just want to save her.”

I dove into this book blindly and wasn’t sure of my feelings for All the Little Lights at first. In fact, it was four stars for the first half of the story and then it soon became five. In a small-town Oklahoma setting lives an extremely unusual family and friends, a group of eccentric, extremely complex, and emotionally-challenged members. Told through the perspective of a teenage hero and heroine, All the Little Lights takes a deep dive into family dynamics and darkness, uncovering secrets and setting the truth free. It is young love at its best and all of the challenges that come with two teenagers growing together as one. As Catherine and Elliotts’ journey unfolded, complex and captivating layer by layer, its words wrapping around me tightly like me a bear hug, I became BESOTTED. This hero and heroines’ tale of young love—fierce, foreboding, and full of complications—stole my heart and became a part of me that I couldn’t and didn’t want to let go.

”You make me feel beautiful when you’re the beautiful one.”

Through her powerful and poignant words, Jamie McGuire courageously uncovers social topics and serious issues like depression, bullying, and racism. She brings light to darkness, tackling tough matters rather than brushing them under the rug. I can’t help but admire writers like Jamie McGuire for slaying serious subjects through their writing—meeting them head on—and making them their muses.

”Pain is beautiful?”

“Pain . . . Love. Can’t really have one without the other.”

The best suspense stories are like All the Little Lights—those that crawl so deeply into your head—where you’re not merely reading a book but living it too. With its keen level of detail, dark premonitions, and elements of danger, All the Little Lights leapt to life so vividly, as if I was watching a movie in my head. All the Little Lights appeals to the thrill seeker, the mystery solver, and those who love excitement with their romance. This adventure left me ACHING FOR MORE.

”I probably don’t deserve you, but I know I will love you more than anyone else will.”

All the Little Lights is a family and friends saga threaded with a coming-of-age love story, one I LIVED … FELT … LOVED. I felt every emotion that the hero and heroine felt; their struggles and their devastatingly beautiful love story were MINE. All the Little Lights is a MASTERFULLY TOLD mystery meets thriller threaded with romance, a tale that TOUCHED MY HEART and SPARKED MY SOUL. I am not ready to let All the Little Lights go. All the BIG LOVE for All the Little Lights!

”We could save each other.”
