REVIEW – Dirtiest Secret by J. Kenner

Spellbinding, suspenseful, and scandalous, Dirtiest Secret is a forbidden tale of twists and turns that burns your body, hits your heart, and leaves you panting for more. This is not simply a story; Dirtiest Secret is an enticing and enthralling escape from reality. A guilty pleasure. An all-encompassing romance with everything you would want in a book and more: crime, suspense, romance, passion, and thrills. You’re watching, hearing, and feeling this saga in what feels like a real-life documentary. Dirtiest Secret seeps into you, becoming your secret too.

While I adore all of J. Kenner’s steamy and seductive stories, I haven’t been this excited about a new release from this author since the original Stark trilogy three years ago—Dirtiest Secret had me just as hyped! Who doesn’t love a dirty secret? The forbidden. A taboo tale that is tantalizing too. Sultry, sinful, and already shattering, my sensations were channeled at lightning speed.

Deeply intrigued by the blurb, with determination and desire, I dove into Dirtiest Secret, knowing it would likely be a heart-hitting book that would destroy yet devour me.

I haven’t even started the story yet and my heart is splitting with just the blurb.

“We destroyed each other, he and I. Even now, after so many years, we’re still cracked and broken. And broken we’ll remain, because without the other, we can never be whole.”

After just a few pages, I knew that this tantalizing tale has more dirt and despair than the other J. Kenner stories, as it’s digging itself deeper into my heart. Oh did this story start off with a bang or three. Sultry. Sinful. Scorching. Sensations travel through me at lightning speed as Dirtiest Secret channels the feels, stealing them from me.

Dallas Sykes. Golden-brown hair and blue eyes, tall, and built. He is an Adonis. Known as the King of F**k.

A mega manwhore. Billionaire. Owner of many businesses. Though he is so complex. A tormented man of many layers, most of which are buried way beneath the surface.

“He looks like a man who can run an empire. Who spends millions of dollars on his toys. He looks like a man who can have any woman he wants, and probably has. A man who enjoys life.”

Jane Martin. The love of Dallas’ life. Dark-haired and dark-eyed with curves in all the right places. Beautiful. Sexy. A well-known author of thrillers involving abductions.
Dallas and Jane survived a harrowing ordeal when they were teens that still haunts them today.

Jane is damaged. A prisoner of her past. Permanently locked where her demons hold the key.

“I’m broken, and I have been for years. It’s my reality now, and I’m learning to live with it. To turn the angst and the loss around and make it work for me.”

While Jane is broken, Dallas is battered and bleeding. He thinks he is trash. Unworthy of love.

My heart shatters the most for Dallas, for all the pain he has endured, and the internal stab wounds that may never heal. His demons are bigger and bolder than Jane’s, still lurking in the shadows. His biggest enemy: the forbidden. Jane. Dallas’ longtime love that he’ll never have.

“You knew a boy, Jane. And he grew into a f**ked-up man…I can’t be the man for you.”

My heart bleeds with anguish knowing these star-crossed lovers can’t be together. The chemistry is palpable and pulls them towards each other like a magnet, making it hard to fight the attraction that’s ignited since they were teens. A flame that’s never died but needs to as their love can never come to light.

“It’s just me. It’s just Dallas. Just the two of us and this living, breathing need that beats between us. That we can’t erase, can’t destroy, can’t tame. He is looking at me, and I can see he feels it too. And when he bends his head almost imperceptibly I know that he is going to kiss me. And I want it. I shouldn’t—I know I shouldn’t. But so help me I want this kiss.”

Both Dallas and Jane are swimming in a sea of regret with guilt and heartache that drowns them every day. Like in Romeo and Juliet, Dallas and Jane can’t be together. Ever.

“I love you. Christ, Jane, I love you so much it hurts. But I can’t do this to you. I have to go.”

While I love all of J. Kenner’s seductive stories centering on the Stark family and friends with the original Stark trilogy still my favorite, Dirtiest Secret is a close second. Pure pleasure. Dirtiest Secret is delicious. Decadent. Dangerous. And oh is it definitely dirty. Though it so much deeper.

Dirtiest Secret, while scorching, suspenseful, and scandalous, is so much more. It’s a soul-searing story of strength, survival, and second-chance love. I could not help but feel so many things. Hope. Heartbreak. Happiness.

As I dove into this story, little did I know it would remain with me for a long time, perhaps forever. Dirtiest Secret. So deep with a storyline that throws a sucker punch. One I did not see coming. One with twists and turns through the darkness to find the light. One that bleeds angst with two friends who love each other but can’t be lovers. Dallas and Jane own each other’s hearts and always will. Just like Dirtiest Secret owns my heart.

This seductive and suspenseful story spun me into its web, casting a spell, weaving me in deeply where I was all in until the very end. Then I was hungry for more. So much more of this tantalizing, thrilling, and twisted ride.

5 spellbinding, soul-searing, and sweet stars

It was wrong for us to be together, but it was even harder to be apart.

The memory of Dallas Sykes burns inside of me.

Everyone knows him as a notorious playboy, a man for whom women and money are no object. But to me, he’s still the one man I desperately crave—yet the one I can never have.

Dallas knows me better than anyone else. We bear the same scars, the same darkness in our past. I thought I could move on by staying away, but now that we’re drawn together once more, I can’t fight the force of our attraction or the temptation to make him mine.

We’ve tried to maintain control, not letting ourselves give in to desire. And for so long we’ve told ourselves no—but now it’s finally time to say yes.

Dirtiest Secret is intended for mature audiences.

Review – Between Us by Ella Fox

image

image

Between Us is the breathtakingly brilliant third book in the Renegade Saints series.  This book is Cole’s story and follows his intense, passionate, lust filled love with Devon.
These two have completely stolen my heart. I devoured this book in a matter of hours. Cole’s story is actually one of deep heart break and worry that has shaped him his whole life. Devon is the light at the end of his tunnel. Their intense attraction starts the minute they lay eyes on each other and the blistering connection that they feel around one another oozes from the pages, infiltrating me as the reader, sometimes making me feel like a third wheel. This book is that REAL! Trust me! It’s also INSANELY hot. Cole is a dirty rocker who made me blush and swoon all at the same time.
Devon is a fantastic heroine. She’s strong, sexy and sassy. She was everything I love in a female character. Ella wrote her perfectly.
At times throughout, my heart was in my mouth and my breath caught as we are held by a thread waiting to see what will happen with Ian, Cole and Devon. I couldn’t read fast enough waiting to see how everything would play out. The suspense just added to the heat of the story.
While Between Us mainly focuses on the blistering love and attraction between Devon and Cole we also get glimpses at the other Renegade Saints men.. Which suited me just fine! I love them all. But after reading this, Cole is definitely my favourite. We also get a taster of what’s to come in Tyson’s story. I feel that book is going to be completely AMAZING.
I honestly can’t sing this book enough praises. Between Us sung to me! Five stars aren’t enough for this truly brilliant book!

His lifestyle. His rules.

Is she willing to risk her heart to play his game?

Guitarist Cole Hayes learned early that falling in love is the easiest way to lose. Determined never to go down that road, he sealed his heart off, numbing himself with erotic and sensual pleasures–with men and women alike. The rules were simple: group sex only and never one-on-one.

It’s all so simple until he meets Devon Bannister, the beautiful director shooting the documentary on his band. Suddenly, she’s all he can think about. Neither can deny the attraction and desire between them.
Although Devon is open to exploring Cole’s lifestyle, for the first time in his life, he finds himself reluctant to share.

How can he own all of her, if he’s only willing to give half of himself?

Review – Predator by Michelle Horst

image

image

Predator is the powerful new standalone from Michelle Horst that penetrates the heart and soul leaving behind a painful yet blissful wake of intense feelings and emotions.
Predator comes with a warning, it contains dark, sensitive subject matter that some readers may find hard to read.
I’ll admit, this book is hard to read. It’s dark, raw and it broke my heart. Michelle writes dark and twisty incredibly well. Her ability to suck readers into the dark while filling them with light and hope is second to none. In fact I’d say this is by far Michelle’s best work to date.
From the Prologue I was hooked, pulled so deep into the shock and suspense of the story that my heart was almost beating from my chest, my jaw had dropped and breath stopped. Michelle’s description of her characters and their surroundings was outstanding. I was able to feel as though I was right there watching the horrors unfold and feel the pain and disgust oozing from Cara.
I honestly don’t think Predator (Damien) could have been any better written. His cold, unloving demeanour at first suited him perfectly for the angle of the story. What Michelle did with his character through out the book was wonderful. Predator breathed again, felt life and while reading I saw that develop really well.
The two as a couple are beautiful. Two damaged, broken souls who find life in one another. Who find solace and happiness with each other. Michelle makes her characters strong when they should be weak, she gives them hope when there is so much dark, she shows them bravery when there is so much fear. And she shines the light and leads them to their paths perfectly.
This whole book, is truly wonderful. Heartbreak turns into blissful fullness and tears turn into smiles. And above all else hope fights it’s way throughout, wins and shows anyone that they can make it.

All my life I’ve been hiding, until there is no corner on this god-forsaken earth left for me to hide. I have to pay for the sins of my father. No one with Ellison blood in their veins is allowed to live, and I am the last of my bloodline.

I am kept in a container waiting for my death sentence to be carried out, when he comes. He is only known as ‘Predator’. No one knows who he works for, only that he leaves no one alive.

His every breath is filled with the last gasp of his dying prey.

But for some reason he doesn’t kill me.

I don’t know which is worse, the death sentence hanging over my head, or being at his mercy.

Review – Models On Top by S.L. Scott

Reviewed by Sophie

Models on Top is a magnificent masterpiece of sex, seduction and a soulful second chance at love story.
This book from start to finish is like a symphony of lust filled notes and intense, emotional lyrics, that sing out in beautiful harmony.
From beginning to end Models On Top burns, sizzles and crackles from intense heat and love. Danny and Reese are so over the top in love with one another, so undeniably beautiful together that while reading Models on Top, you feel every inch of their love, every spark of their chemistry and every pulse of the simmering sexual tension.
Danny is sexy, smooth and devilishly charming. His cocky, playboy attitude, simmering smile and rock hard abs ticked all of my boxes. And not only does he pack all the looks he also brings the swoon factor. Too many times I found myself ahhh’ing along to his words of raw love and passion for Reese.
Reese is written exceptionally well along side Danny. Her love also evident but her insecurity and pain is played perfectly. As a woman reading Reese I connected to her and understood why she felt the way she did at times. But one thing that I had all the way through was faith in Reese to put her trust out there and take the chance.
Models on Top is a sublime sex-citing read that has infiltrated my heart and senses and left me full of spectacular swoony feels.

Everything you’ve heard about modeling is true, and you haven’t heard the half of it.
It’s glamorous.
It’s sexy.
And yes, the line between work and reality often blurs.
We’re not just prototypes of perfection. Models have feelings and desires, too. We may be genetically gifted, but we’re still human.
I’m only human. Yes, an extraordinary specimen that earns more in a day than most make in a year, but this eight pack didn’t create itself. I spend hours working on this body. The good looks just come natural. *Winks* Thanks, Mom and Dad.
I’m Danny Weston, Supermodel.
But one path was traded for another when I chose this career. Ten years later, I would trade my career to have it back. To have her back.
Reese Carmichael is the one woman I would give it all up for, and the only one I can’t have.
Yet.

Review – Worthy of the Harmony by RC Martin

♫4 Rocker Stars!♫

Worthy of the Harmony, picks up right where Encore left off. It’s the last chapter of Encore, except from Sage’s perspective and not Millie’s.

Sage is an undeniably hot and sexy “dreamer”. He’s a motivated 21 year old, who’s dream is to become a famous rocker with his band, Mountains & Men. It’s all about the music. It’s his life. He’s determined. He knows what he wants and he goes after it full force. What he has his sights set on now, is Millie.

Millie is 26 year old college professor who has…dare I say it? Daddy and mommy issues. She has trust issues, and love issues. She doesn’t open up easily for anyone. She keeps herself guarded for fear of someone “breaking her” beyond repair.

When Sage and Millie are together, they have undeniable sexual chemistry. This book is full of scorching hot, steamy scenes that will leave you breathless.

It’s obvious they’re both falling for each other, but the brakes are pushed to the floor with full force. ….Millie is hesitant. Her mother has put thoughts in her head that men are no good. They always leave. Love never lasts. She hangs on to these words and it disrupts their happy relationship.

This is the part I don’t get (and this is my opinion), how does Millie let her mom get to her so much? How can she let her words come between her and the guy she’s falling in love with? I don’t understand it. They’re obviously good together….obviously make each other happy…..obviously they make each other better people! I mean, he’s a dirty talking, sweet, smokin hot Rocker who completely adores her! Who doesn’t love that? Who wouldn’t want that?

Ok, I’ll give Millie the benefit of the doubt here. She’s nervous about him becoming famous. She already doesn’t feel like she fits into his world…his crowd of friends, but now he’s going off for weeks, maybe eventually months on end without seeing her. I understand the hesitation with that. I just hope that she will come to her senses and see what everyone else see’s…..SAGE ONLY HAS EYES FOR MILLIE!

Overall I really enjoyed this book. There were a few things that irritated me, but that’s neither here nor there. Worthy of the Harmony was a great follow-up to Encore and I can’t wait to see what RC Martin has to offer us next!

Review – Clash by CA Harms

image

image

5 captivating stars.

Clash is a captivating, soul crushing read that broke my heart but also made it swell. The shocking and traumatic base to this story is overwhelming. Leaving in its wake a heartbreaking read that is pure perfection.
CA Harms’ writing in this book is beautiful, raw, painful and soul destroying. Payton’s back story is gutting. The traumatic abuse she suffers cut me apart piece by piece, slashing my heart and soul. I felt so much pain for Payton willing, hoping for her to fight and survive. Her escape was hard to read, but it was the strength of those around her that built up the story filled with power and excellence.
Dylan was the perfect person for Payton. I have claimed him as my own. He is stunning, sexy and so hot. His love for Peyton shone brightly throughout the story and helped ease my own aching heart as well as Payton’s.
The twists and turns that CA throws into Clash are gripping and left me sat on the edge of my seat, pumping with adrenaline, reading as quick as possible.
By no means is this book a breeze to read, it’s devastating in parts and wonderful in others, but together it’s a perfect mix, a beautiful balance of light and dark and a stunning 5 star read.

Review – Stuck-Up Suit by Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward

image

Blurb
It started out like any other morning on the train.

Until I became mesmerized by the guy sitting across the aisle.

He was barking at someone on his phone like he ruled the world.

Who did the stuck-up suit think he was…God?

Actually, he looked like a God. That was about it.

When his stop came, he got up suddenly and left.  So suddenly, he dropped his phone on the way out.

I might have picked it up.

I might have gone through all of his photos and called some of the numbers.

I might have held onto the mystery man’s phone for days—until I finally conjured up the courage to return it.

When I traipsed my ass across town to his fancy company, he refused to see me.

So, I left the phone on the empty desk outside the arrogant jerk’s office.

I might have also left behind a dirty picture on it first though.

I didn’t expect him to text back.

I didn’t expect our exchanges to be hot as hell.

I didn’t expect to fall for him—all before we even met.

The two of us couldn’t have been any more different.

Yet, you know what they say about opposites.

When we finally came face to face, we found out opposites sometimes do more than attract—we consumed each other.

Nothing could have prepared me for the ride he took me on. And I certainly wasn’t prepared for where I’d wind up when the ride was over.

All good things must come to an end, right?

Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

SIX Deliriously happy stars!!!
Sensational.
Stunning.
Outstanding.
Amazing.
Phenomenal.
Those are just some of the words to describe what I’ve just read. I could go on but I think you get my point. If not then let me explain….
Stuck Up Suit is an out of this world, phenomenal read that has had me addicted to my Kindle for the past 24 hours. This book was pure perfection, highly addicting and super sexy.
Penelope and Vi are two of my favourite authors. On their own, their words are divine. But together they create something else entirely, something so freaking amazing that no descriptive word will ever do it justice.
Stuck Up Suit isn’t just a book, a story. No its a journey. A journey packed with such love, lust, passion and pleasure that while reading, I’ve been emotionally strung out.
Starting out as a story that sizzles and pops from undeniable chemistry and raw oozing sex appeal, Stuck Up Suit drew me into a blazing inferno of heat and passion, stoking an inner flame inside me that burnt so bright I was fully engrossed in Graham and Soraya and their intense relationship.
Graham is out of this world. Literally. His ability to make me swoon, pant and blush all in the same moment was totally addicting. My heart loved him from the start. His cocky, flirty attitude and deep raw passion makes this man so unbelievably real I dare you not to love him.
But don’t let that rip roaring fire of sexual tension put you off thinking this book is just about a cocky Bastard pursuing a woman. Very hotly may I add. No this book is packed with real, raw, beautiful issues that made my head spin and my heart hurt. I have literally lived and breathed these characters while reading. I’ve loved everything about Soraya, her fire, her ice, her love and her hate, her sharp tongue and refreshing personality. She was perfect. And despite wanting to shake her. HARD, at one point, I fully got her, 100%..
As a union this couple are breath taking. Dare I say I love these two more than Chance and Aubrey? And I freaking ADORED Chance and Aubrey!! There was just something about Graham and Soraya that imprinted on me. I fought alongside these two, hoped for them, loved for them and because they are written so damn well, it’s hard not to.
No amount of words or phrases will ever truly explain what I got from reading this book. It was an experience, of EPIC proportions. And that’s what solidifies Penelope and Vi’s unions. Making them so magical. They draw you into another world of pure bliss. Bliss that fills your heart full of warmth, sets huge freaking butterflies off in your stomach and leaves you deliriously happy!

Review – Moto by M. Never

6x9Template
Synopsis:

What’s harder than resisting one Dane man? Resisting two.

I don’t date bikers. It’s my one cardinal rule. No rough, rugged, tattooed egotistical maniacs on two wheels. Even if they are gorgeous, brilliant, and sport the prefix Doctor. Bottom line, bikers are nothing but trouble.

T.R.O.U.B.L.E

Dr. Devlin Dane has had his sights set on my panties for months. But I’ve done a stellar job of fending him off. As Mercy Medical’s most eligible bachelor, he has no problem in the panty dropping department. He’s tall, dark, and inked all over. I get the appeal, I’m not dead. I’m not stupid either. He’s a walking heartbreak waiting to happen.

But when Reese Dane comes crashing into my life – literally- the game suddenly changes.

Reese, the dark, brooding, motorcycle racing champion, knows exactly how to apply the right pressure on and off the track.

The two have an unstoppable pull like centrifugal force, and both bad boy bikers are determined to take me on a high-powered ride I’ll never forget…

Moto Harder
4.5 F*cking Fast Stars!

This was one incredible story! It certainly wasn’t anything that I expected it to be. It wasn’t a sordid tacky three way. It was beautifully written, twisting my heart in ways I certainly never saw coming. Heartbreaking but so incredibly sexy that I was left sighing, swooning and wishing that I had my own set of Dane brothers. Sweet but dirty, demanding but gentle… The Danes were walking, talking contrasts. At moments I so envied Kayla. At others? Well, I certainly would call her relationships a challenge!

Kayla was a nurse in a small town and had the pleasure of working with the divine Dr. Devlin Dane – a brilliant cardiologist, resident kinky manwhore and motorcycle enthusiast. He’s beautiful, tatted, mischievous and he wants Kayla. Kayla refuses for many reasons to become involved with a moto. But she’s finding him harder and harder to resist. Fate throws another obstacle in Kayla’s path in the form of Reese Dane – Dev’s identical twin and a world renowned motorcycle racing champion. Same beautiful body and amazing tats. But Reese is darker, moodier, a huge daredevil and risk taker. Charged with Reese’s care, Kayla finds herself drawn more and more to Reese while still falling for his brother. Reese and Devlin know that they are both falling for Kayla. So the twins devise a plan where everyone gets what they want – or do they?

Dev, Reese and Kayla have the most unique, intense and confounding relationship. Twins have such a connection anyway but throw in the fact that they love the same woman and it opens up the door to a fiery passion, unbelievable chemistry and moments of chaos unlike anything I have read in quite some time. There were two distinct relationships in this book. No one could be left unscathed. Feelings change, situations change. The ending was shocking on the one hand but so worth the roller coaster ride that M took me on. I highly and most definitely recommend this high octane, twisty, turning amazing ride of a story! Fantastic!  Give me f*cking fast!

REVIEW – Slow & Steady by Kendall Ryan

SYNOPSIS

When Greyson tosses $20 on the stage of a strip club, the last thing he expects to see are the haunted green eyes staring back at him. Finley should be home raising her infant daughter and baking cookies, not tucking singles into her G-string and giving lap dances.

Greyson can’t deny that he’d like his own private show, but there’s not a chance in hell of that happening. The last time the former Navy SEAL saw her she was dressed in black, holding a folded flag and sobbing that it was all his fault… and he agreed with every single word. He couldn’t do anything to help her then, but he can now.

Finley deserves better than this dingy club, and when an obsessed customer crosses the line, Greyson leads the rescue and will do whatever it takes to make amends for their broken past.

He never expected to want to settle down, but with Finley, everything is different. For the first time ever, he can breathe. But Greyson will have to fight for what he wants in order to keep the woman with the green eyes he’s dreamed about so often.

5-STAR REVIEW

A transfixing and touching story of love and loss, Slow and Steady grabbed me from the very first page, bleeding into my head and heart and never letting go. Slow and steady, my pulse raced. Slow and steady, my heart broke. Slow and steady, my head hoped. Slow and steady, my heart became whole. Slow and steady, I fell in love with this beautiful and brilliant book.

I love a good military romance with a strong alpha, the kind of man who will not only go to war but fight for his woman. He may have been banged up and wear internal scars that never heal, but will battle his demons for his lady. Protect her. Cherish her. Love her. This is the hero in Slow and Steady. A man’s man with a heart of gold that’s tarnished a little.

Greyson…oh Greyson. A strong alpha who is tall, muscular, dark-haired, and blue-eyed…every woman’s dream. He lives with survivor’s guilt as his best friend died in the battlefield, right at his side, leaving behind a beautiful wife and unborn child. Every day is another fight with internal demons plaguing his soul. He wonders what happened to his best friend’s wife, how she is coping.

Out for a night on the town, he finds her at the most unexpected of places: a strip club. Holy shocker.

“Her standing there only highlighted my every mistake. It was my failure—the reason she had to resort to this. It was my responsibility to fix it. Even if she hated me…even if she wanted nothing to do with me.”

Finley is blonde, green-eyed, fair-skinned and beautiful. Since losing her Navy Seal husband during a deployment, she has struggled in every way. Financially. Emotionally. Physically. From soon-to-be family of three, to a single mom with no job, Finley became a stripper to put food on the table quickly. While not her ideal job, stripping gave her strength and self-confidence, a window to live in the moment and forget about her loss.

I want to soothe Finley, and give her a hug.

“Up on stage, I was a professional performer wearing my work uniform. I had nothing to be self-conscious about. But somehow, just the sight of Greyson pierced my armor.”

The guilt grabs Greyson every day, holding his mind hostage. A forever war in his head.

“So this is what she really thinks of me…a murderer.”

Greyson wants to right a wrong. Fix a fatal mistake. Provide a good life for his best friend’s family. If only Finley didn’t deem him the enemy. If only he wasn’t attracted to his buddy’s widow. If only he didn’t want to make Finley his. If only she weren’t forbidden.

“My entire body was throbbing with need. Finley chewed on her lower lip, struggling with something internally…was she interested in something more? The mere idea of something more…something real nipped at me, tearing tiny holes in my armor.”

Like Greyson, the past and guilt are weighing Finley down, claiming her prisoner. Greyson wants to be her present but she has lost the key to her heart; it died with her husband. Her heart is on lockdown, and may never open up again. Love and happiness no longer exist.

“All I could think about when I looked at him, no matter how kind he seemed or how striking he looked, was that he was the reason I lost my husband. That wasn’t’ something I’d ever get over. Ever.”

Greyson knows Finley feels the same pull, the chemistry igniting them, the tug of their hearts that would be perfect as one. Finley already owns his heart, but he doesn’t think he will ever get hers. He wants to be the prince charming to her Cinderella. A father to her little lady. Her and their happily ever after.

I can’t help but feel Greyson’s pain as I fall in love with this broken war hero with a big heart.

“She wasn’t meant to be mine. They weren’t meant to be mine. But that didn’t stop me from picturing it. From wanting it so badly it hurt.”

This story is not just a sizzling military romance with a former Navy seal who is all alpha. Slow and Steady is much more. Hope. Honor. Heroism. Heart. A lot of heart. Kendall Ryan cast a spell on me where I fell in love with these broken yet bold and beautiful characters…slow and steady…long and hard.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 5 steady and strong stars

Review – Resisting Roots by Audrey Carlan

 5 Gumdrop Stars!!
I’ll be honest, I didn’t know what kind of story this was when I first picked it up. It was a story written by the amazing Audrey Carlan. I didn’t need to know anything else to know I would more than likely fall in love with this story…the characters within. Resisting Roots, I didn’t know what it meant, until I dove in and read. Resisting Roots indeed. This is a story of two people, from very different walks of life who resist being tied down for different reasons. It’s a story of finding yourself. Hearts and heads are at war, in this non-stop, spine-tingling, pulling heartstrings, emotional, sexy book.
Genevieve is a 24 year old yoga instructor, hair stylist, and “single mom” to her brother and sister. She’s given up her dreams in order to take care of her own after a heart wrenching accident leaves them alone 3 years prior. Vivvie doesn’t have time for anything except her siblings and work. She’s put in a position most people aren’t put in at her age. I felt for this poor girl who had everything in front of her, to only have it ripped in such a sad, poignant turn of events. This girl is the epitome of strong, smart and beautiful! She took what had she was dealt and didn’t back down. She took on the role of mother and man-of-the house with no complaints. Family comes first.

Trent. Oh Trent, what can I say about him? He’s a wicked hot and cocky superstar baseball player. Every girl dreams of having him, even if for only one night. Trent’s happy to have it that way. He beds women for one night never having to see them again after, never settling down……Resisting Roots. A torn hamstring lands him in the hot-seat since his contract is almost up. He has a choice, work hard and recover before the new season starts, or risk not being signed again.

Genevieve =Yoga Instructor Trent =Injured Baseball Hunk

When Trent is recommended Yoga as a healing method, he is hesitant about going, unsure if Yoga will even help him. After all, Yoga is for women right? Ha!

That is until he comes face to face with Vivvie. The hotter than sin bombshell instructor. The moment their eyes meet you can feel a connection. The chemistry between them is hotter than hot. The sexual tension builds between the two during their daily sessions.

“I rubbed his head, temples, down the sides of his neck, into his shoulders, while dream Genevieve physically molested the baseball player in a private room, where I showed him another version of deep relaxation.”

“Genevieve, has anyone ever told you how ridiculously beautiful you are? It’s almost hard to look at you without reacting inappropriately.”

Trent never expected to grow attached to anyone, let alone their siblings. Genevieve is not like all of the other girls he’s bed. She’s kind and caring, doesn’t care for his money and doesn’t like to accept help. Genevieve takes their relationship for what it is. She doesn’t expect more that a fling because of his known reputation of having a different woman on his arm every night. She doesn’t expect it, but it doesn’t mean she can’t……hope.

As the story grows you can see the pull in both characters. The tug-of-war between head and heart.

“In that moment, as Trent kept me close within the confines of his safe embrace, I fell a little in love with him, even knowing he could never truly be mine.”

Yoga. Yoga plays a huge role in this book. Every chapter, there is a new pose and description of what that pose is meant for and how to do it. This book made me feel like I need Yoga in my life. It. Was. That. Good. If felt as if reading about the yoga and all of the benefits, and seeing how it helped the characters, that it could do the same for me. I’m not sure if this is what Carlan meant for it to do, but it made me want to sign up for the next class I could find!

This story had me all in from page one. I was immediately attached to the characters and their stories. I couldn’t put it down. There are ups and downs, highs and lows and I wanted to be right there with them going through their happy times, their turmoil. I wanted to be a part of it all. Carlan truly has a gift with her unique and beautiful writing style. This was my first read by Carlan and she did not disappoint! She was able to give me all the feels! The sad, the happy, and the hot and steamy! I can’t wait to dive head first into the next one!

“Like a tree that had taken root, my essence delved into the earth and found a home.”
