Review – Blackstone by JD Hollyfield

Blackstone1

Crystal's review

The premise of this series really stuck out to me – Four Fathers. Each with their own story to tell but their stories are also interconnected. Each story gives the reader a different area of romance to explore: contemporary, erotic, taboo and dark. The blurbs drew me in and I was so amped to read Blackstone. I have never read anything by JD Hollyfield or any of the other authors.

Blackstone was just amazing. It was a quick read but I fell into immediately. Trevor Blackstone is one of the four owners of Four Fathers Freight. He’s a mathematical genius and that makes him quirky, serious and complex. His past has defined him and it one of misunderstandings, loss and abandonment. He finds solace in the ocean… and being in control. All of that is shattered when a spitfire of a woman moves in next door for the summer. But from the first look, from the first meeting, Lucy isn’t like anyone that Trevor has ever known. She’s funny, strong, observant and she just gets him. She’s peace in the violent storm of numbers, equations and formulas.

Like Trevor, Lucy has her own past filled with things that haunt her. Bad decisions, bad relationships, loss of confidence. Lossing her beloved grandmother was the catalyst for change and for the summer she’s going to take her grandmother’s advice and . She never expected Trevor, his affection, his attention. Weird but so very sexy, he turns her world upside down.

Oh, this was just SO GOOD. The story made me itch for more of Lucy and Trevor’s story. There were a few unanswered questions when I got to the last page and I hope that the next three books will have the answers. I laughed all the way through this read and Trevor is definitely not like any other hero I have ever read. Kudos to Lucy, though. She made that man earn her.

One fabulous first look and a great start to an awesome series! Great job, Jessica!

I am meticulous. Structured. A single father.
I obsess over things and crave control.
And when a hot, feisty little woman throws a wrench in my carefully laid out plans, I lose my mind.
My every thought revolves around making her bend to my will—until they become less about her doing things my way and more about just her.

I am an obsessive, complicated, demanding man.
People may not understand me, but it doesn’t stop them from wanting me.

Being Sunday, I decide to take a break from memory lane. I snatch a worn historical romance paperback from Gran’s bookshelf and slide into my brand new white bikini. Grabbing my towel and a Mike’s Hard Lemonade from the fridge, I head out back.

The sun feels amazing on my skin. I inhale the breeze, tasting the salt of the ocean on my tongue. I drop my towel on the lawn chair and get comfortable. My shades are down, and my book is ready to be dominated.

“This is nice,” I hum to myself, lifting my lemonade and taking a nice sip.

And out it all repels as I spit and choke on it.

Jeeeesus Christ.”

I knock my sunglasses halfway down my nose as my eyes threaten to fall out of their sockets. Where in holy heavens did he come from? The half-naked man leaning on his balcony across the way. My tongue about falls out of my mouth. Is that Numbers? And holy shit, when did he get so much muscle? I’d call him fit, but that’s not fit. That’s like, “Hi, I eat muscle for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and now I’m just all muscle.”

I wipe at my chin, unsure whether it’s lemonade splatter or I’m drooling. I’m probably drooling. I wasn’t paying attention to much of him yesterday when he was acting all crazy on my front step. I just wanted him gone. To be honest, while he was babbling, I was trying to dig in the back of my brain for my old high school karate moves in case he tried something on me. Looking at him now, I wish he had.

He lifts his hand, threading his large hand through his hair and dragging his fingers down his hard chest covered in a dusting of hair. “Oh boy, where’s that hand going?” I mumble, licking my lips. Oh yeah. I see where this is going. Yep, oh yeah… Did I just moan?

Oh, hell yeah I did, but it’s so worth it. His hand dips down into his board shorts and he adjusts himself. Feel free to pull them down. Show us the goods, I think, mentally visualizing just how big his junk is. He’s a pretty big guy. Big hands. Theory says, and all.

Watching him fondle himself in all his hot glory, my curiosity piques. How old is he really? He sure had a reason to take offense by my calling him old. He certainly doesn’t look old. He surely looks a zillion times hotter than Jimmy, and he was only twenty-eight. I’m not an age wizard, but if I had to guess, I’d say late thirties, early forties. Definitely a bit out of my age range. Why? No idea. No real reason screaming stay away. Well, besides the major one being he wants to evict me, tear down my Gran’s life of memories, and probably build a gym in its place.

Yeah, that’s a good enough reason.

It also reminds me it’s the guys who look appealing on the outside that usually turn out to be dicks on the inside.

Review – Tempting Little Tease by Kendall Ryan

TLT Amazon

Tempting Little Tease by Kendall Ryan

My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars

I have not only wanted but NEEDED Quinn’s story since devouring Dirty Little Promise. I needed the oldest Kingsley brother to find love as oh did he deserve to find his soulmate. Kendall Ryan delivers this hero’s happily ever after. Readers will ADORE this STEAMY and DREAMY delight that Kendall Ryan brings to life with the Italy inspired-tale: Tempting Little Tease ! What a DELICIOUS ROMANCE!!! Smolder meets sweetness in Tempting Little Tease , a Cinderella-like fairytale that will charm and claim the hearts of all readers who love a feel-good romance.

Alessandra is beautiful and vibrant with so much life and love to give. I ADORED this sweet and sassy beauty! This heroine captivated me.

”This is the most beautiful view, I say.”

“I couldn’t agree more.” But rather than looking at the horizon, his gaze is locked on mine.

Oh how I LOVED the HOT and BIG-HEARTED HERO, Quinn! There is more to this quiet and calm man than meets the eye. He’s charming and playful. So sinfully sexy with a vulnerability that makes you fall in love even harder. Hidden underneath this devastatingly handsome and powerful man is a swoony romantic who me swoon. This man made me MELT all over, and I pledge my love to Quinn! This hero is tender and touching while still so deliciously dirty—a HEADY COMBINATION.

There’s something so sexy about this back and forth. It’s like playing with fire.

TLT-teaser1

The playful banter full of heat and heart between this hero and heroine is MAGNETIC!!! I could not resist these explosive characters. They completely WOWED me!

“Tu mi toglie il fiato,” I say, closing the distance between us.

“You take my breath away.”

Oh my SWOON! Quinn and Alessandra are MAGICAL together! This hero and heroine are MEANT TO BE.

Tempting Little Tease is as SWOONY as it is SMOLDERING. The smolder and sweetness burn from heart to core. I MELTED from head to toe. I felt HEADY all over. I was wholeheartedly WOOED—so ENRAPTURED with this love story! Captivating, combustible, and completely charming, Tempting Little Tease is the ULTIMATE FEEL-GOOD ROMANCE.

If this is a game of seduction, I’m determined to win.

A hot new standalone romance from New York Times bestseller, Kendall Ryan.

She’s the tutor I hired to teach me Italian.

She’s way too young for me, but she’s also gorgeous, bright and filled with a curiosity about life that I find incredibly refreshing.

It’s fucking adorable.

I’m old enough to know better, but this pretty young thing tempts me beyond belief. And for the first time in my life, I can see myself falling.

***

Is this what it’s like to be pursued by an older man? The complete confidence, the lack of expectations, the sincerity?

My God, it’s exhilarating.

Quinn Kingsley is totally unexpected. I’m moving to Italy in three weeks to teach English, and while I never expected something so real to develop between us so quickly, our chemistry is undeniable.

There’s something so sexy about this back and forth he and I share. Flirting with this man is like playing with fire, and I’m bound to get burned.

Io sono attratto da te. I’m attracted to you, he tells me.

But is our attraction enough to get us through the complications of a massive age gap and an international love affair?

Only one way to find out…

Review – Memphis by Ginger Scott

Memphis by Ginger Scott

My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars

Lost souls find each other sometimes.

I’ve fallen in love with another fighter and it’s all because of new-to-me author, Ginger Scott! A master storyteller, Ginger Scott immediately ensnared me in her trap of words. Like a fighter on the mat, I was hit hard. MEMPHIS, this tender and thrilling tale, UNEQUIVOCALLY OWNED ME and was UTTERLY UNPUTDOWNABLE! I was CONSUMED by Memphis from the very first page, as every word made my HEART FLUTTER and my SOUL STIR.

Memphis, the man, oh where do I start?!? This man is gorgeous inside and out. Fire-hot and fearless. Memphis is so sexy … so stunning … so sweet … so WOW!!! I was under his spell. Memphis had my heart from the start. Memphis, the hero, is the ultimate champion of the heart … my heart … PURE PERFECTION!

There’s just something about the way he moves…like a ghost. Like a fighter.

Liz is as beautiful as she is bold but oh is she broken. I took a while to warm up to this sassy and closed-off heroine, but grew to adore her. Liz has been burned, her flame extinguished. Until Memphis ignites a fire that can’t help but burn between them…

I feel like the gladiator protecting the maiden from a storm.

The chemistry between this broken beauty and fierce fighter is COMBUSTIBLE. I felt their pull through the pages. This slow burn that enflamed.

”I want you because when I touch you I feel it in every square inch of my body.”

Electrifying, emotionally complex, and heart-hitting, Memphis is a CHAMPION of a read. This fighter romance is full of FIRE and FEELS but it’s so much MORE!!! Ginger Scott flawlessly turns hope to hopeless and merely existing or living to life in a story threaded by unexpected but unconditional love. Memphis is the story of lost souls finding each other. Memphis is blood that becomes bad and friends who become family. Memphis is survival after shattering. Memphis is EVERYTHING!!!

”I don’t think anyone else will fit you like I do, Liv … I know it because I don’t think anyone else will fit me either.”

Memphis BURNS with a PARALYZING INTENSITY felt EVERYWHERE! EMOTIONALLY EXPLOSIVE and BLISTERINGLY BEAUTIFUL, Memphis pounded its way into my heart. This raw, rush of a read made me FEEL SO ALIVE! I LOVED this fighter romance! Imperfectly perfect, Memphis was perfect for me.

I’ll fight for us.

synopsis.jpg

My mom always said it was just something about the way he moved.

The same swagger Archie Valentine wore in the ring when he took his opponents down followed him like a halo everywhere he went. But make no mistake about it—he was no angel. He was like a drug. My mother was his addict.

I never understood it…how love could make you blind and convince you to drink the poison. Not until I met Memphis Delaney.

At first, it was the familiar form. He’s a fighter, built like a god from the past, the kind of man the universe doesn’t make anymore. His eyes hide a story, and every time I’m in his presence I want to keep reading him until I get to the end. And then…there’s the way he moves. His boxing is violent but beautiful, and his body is a seductive weapon. When he’s in the ring, he wears the stare of a man committed to the battle until his very last breath.

He could end me; turn me into her. Too much of him will leave me as a shadow, and I’ve lost so much of myself already.

But I have discipline. It came the hard way. Lessons learned, scars left behind, and trust stripped away from life.

I will breathe his air, but I won’t fall for a man like him. The only boxer who’s ever going to break my heart is the one who gave me my name.

Review – The Thing About Love by Kim Karr

The Thing About Love by Kim Karr

“He was the Ying to my crazy Yang. He was my perfect. He was my soulmate.”

The Thing About Love is a beautiful, HOT, enemies to lovers, romance between two incredibly charismatic characters that are just MADE FOR EACH OTHER.

Jake & Juliette have a sizzling connection. From the start these two start a fire and only burn hotter as the book progresses. Their whole story is brilliantly paced and believable. It is also emotional in some places, adding in a beautiful aspect that just makes this story what it is.

I am forever a fan of Kim Karr. Her males are always spot on and so, so easy to fall in love with. Her females always have the perfect balance of sass and insecurity that make them real and connectable. Kim is most definitely kicking of 2018 with a great book and I urge everyone to read it!

An emotional and unforgettable new romance from New York Times bestselling author Kim Karr.

The whole stethoscope-and-white coat thing isn’t my cup of tea.

I prefer a man with an artistic vein in his body. 9 – 5 hours. And I can definitely do without the half-lidded, sleepy bedroom eyes. (Okay, so those are kind of sexy.)

Tall, dark, and handsome doesn’t change the fact that he’s arrogant, cocky, and rude.

Not that I care, but he’s made it clear he wants nothing to do with a quirky girl like me, which is why he said no.

Turns out no isn’t an option.

I have a quickie wedding to plan, and Dr. Jake Kissinger doesn’t have a choice. He looks at our situation like he’s stuck with me, but in reality I’m stuck with him. Stuck with his pouty mouth. His long, lean body. And stuck with those loose, low riding scrub pants. (Okay, so the doctor thing is growing on me.)

When spending time together turns into more than it should, I know I’m in trouble.

He isn’t supposed to make my heart pound.

I’m not supposed to make him look twice.

And we aren’t supposed to spend the night together. (Okay, so he has more than one artistic vein in his body, and other places.)

Falling for him is definitely a mistake.

Here’s the thing…

Jake is unavailable, and I know it.

Just not in the way you might think.

I guess you can’t have your cake and eat it too.

Review – Dirty Deeds by Stella Rhys

Dirty Deeds by Stella Rhys

This year I promised myself that I would start reading some new authors, and in all honesty I’ve have had my eye on Stella for a while and thought NOW IS THE TIME I’M GOING IN. I mean after seeing that cover how could you NOT want to read this book! The cover is perfection and now that I’ve read the book, I realise it’s even more perfect! And so my first foray into Stella Rhys was Dirty Deeds and it will not be my last!

From the very start this book was addicting. Hotter than hot. And just SO FREAKING GOOD!

I think this is one of the hottest books I’ve read in a while. The connection and tension was HOT. The foreplay and build up was HOT. Everything was HOT. But this book also has lots of hidden depth, lots of emotion and feeling. I fell in love with Emmett. He was just ugh, a loveable, cocky, dirty, hot asshole with the sweetest, most caring side to him that made me swoon & melt. Just everything he did and does is just pure magic and sweet and sexy and just WOW.

Aly was a great female character with sass and wit and passion. My only one problem with Aly was, I felt she was sometimes too in her head and so quick to blame Emmett. My feeling towards Aly may be stricter because of how much I loved Emmett. He clouded my vision. Stella writes her hero’s SO WELL. LOL.

I am thrilled I picked Stella as my first new author of 2018. I cannot wait to read more of her work, I’ve even gone back and clicked some of her older work!

4.5 dirty but so, so good stars!

Growing up, we hated each other.

Now, we’re f**kin’ roommates for the summer.

ALY
It’s been twelve years since I’ve seen him, but loathing Emmett Hoult still runs in my blood. Thanks to the hell he wreaked on my teenaged life, I’ve avoided the prick like the plague. But desperate times call for desperate measures, and after a fire destroys my apartment during the most important week of my life, I’m suddenly as desperate as they come.

Hence the roommate situation.

It’s his summer home. His family said he wouldn’t be around. They said I’d never run into him.

But oh, did I run into Emmett Hoult.

And in the worst way possible.

EMMETT
I didn’t expect to see her ever again, let alone the way that I did.

But now that she’s back in my life, I’m not screwing things up. She still hates me — I know that — but it won’t stop me from chasing the only two goals I’ve made for this summer.

Making things right.

And making her mine.

Review – St. Helena Getaway by LK Collins

SHG cover

Review graphic

LK Collins shows her softer, sweeter side with a just a tiny touch of dirty thrown in for good measure in this quick trip to St. Helena and the wine country of California.

Hope has been running from everything – her past, her hurts, and definitely the ex that broke her confidence and belief in love. Since leaving Portland, Oregon, Hope has been filled with wanderlust simply trying to find the place that she calls home. As a freelance journalist she can work anywhere and has. Her wondering leads her back to the place that she lost the most important person in her world – her mother. But sometimes you truly cannot go home. Loaded with her mother’s prized laptop, Hope heads to St. Helena and encounters a man named Chase who will change her life.

I did so love Chase’s case of insta-love. It was magic from the time he locked eyes on Hope. There was no slowing down once these two kissed. It was as sweet as it was steamy and I had so much fun falling for these two. Hope has had so much heartache – from the death of her mother to the ending of her relationship with a man she believed was her forever. The happily ever after she and Chase catches is very well earned.

Now as for that brother of Chase’s? Colt, oh you bad boy! I cannot to read your story! Great job, LK!

World on Fire St. Helena Getaway

FB_IMG_1494244623114

Prologue

“Hope!” he yells my name, his desperate words piercing my ears as I slam our front door closed. My blood is boiling in a way it never has before, my emotions all over the place, fighting between anger and rage. Everything I was once so sure of, now all washed away because of one decision he made.

Getting into my car, I shut the door and look back at our house. There had been so much promise behind those walls. No, we don’t own it, but we had plans. Plans to one day get married and start a family there.

My knuckles are tight around the steering wheel as I remember actually why that dream just died. Betrayal is a nice way to describe it. I grip harder, wanting to take my anger out on something, pretending as if it’ll solve my problems even though I know it won’t. There is not a thing that will solve or fix this.

As I drive away, my eyes keep glancing to the rear view mirror, to the house I just stormed from, to the house I will never step foot in again. He lied to me beautifully and had done it for so long that I think he believed what he was doing was okay. I don’t think he realized it wasn’t okay until I caught him and all the lies came crashing out into the open.

God, I had not been anything but a puppet in his game of life.

Well, not anymore.

Anxious to get away from this place, this city, this life . . . from it all, I turn onto the onramp for the interstate and don’t want to ever look back.

My mom’s voice rings in my head, “Please don’t go, Hope.” I should’ve listened to her and never left in the first place. If I had, this never would have happened.

It is one of the last things she ever said to me before she had the massive stroke that took her from this world and from me. Her words and panic over my moving away with a man I’d barely known now make so much sense. Had she known how horrible of a man Mitch was and that I’d end up heartbroken? Probably. She also probably stayed silent because she knew I wouldn’t have listened.

Or had she begged me to stay because she had known her time was short? I didn’t know if that was something a person knew or not, but I sometimes wondered if my mother had a feeling deep inside her and that was why she wanted me to stay so badly.

Regardless, nothing is going to bring her back, and nothing is going to change what Mitch did.

My cell phone rings, and when I glance down to see his name and deceitful face across the screen, I roll my window down and impulsively toss the phone out. It bounces against the pavement of the highway. Belatedly, I glance to my mirrors, worried about a car having to swerve to avoid flying projectiles. Thankfully, since it’s so late, there aren’t any other cars around.

Pressing harder on the pedal, I wish I could go home. I wish I could crawl into my mother’s arms, but I can’t. My current destination is unknown, and even with the fear of having nowhere to go, the farther away I get from Portland, the better I feel. Ever since moving there to be with Mitch, something inside me hadn’t felt right.

God, what I’d do to feel right in my own skin again.

I should’ve listened not only to my mom but also to that feeling deep in the pit of my stomach. If I had, maybe then I wouldn’t be in the pain I am now.

Review – Theirs To Take  by laura Kaye

4.5 stars
I have been a huge fan of the blasphemy series since the beginning. This book was so much different than the rest of the books  in the series. It was a little lighter on the BDSM side and more emotional.
I loved how Hartley, Cruz , and Jonathan started their relationship and it built quickly while they we’re closely working on Hartley’s boat even though they had no  time for extra jobs. Jonathan just had an instant connection with her. When Cruz met her,  he felt it too.
The other catch to the story is that Jonathan and Cruz were  best friends for 20 years and both had a desire for the other that they we’re both keeping under wraps for fear that that it would ruin their relationship.
Overall,  another great read from Laura  and the Blasphemy series. I highly recommend. BTW it gets a 10 for heat factor!

 From Laura Kaye:

I’m thrilled to be celebrating the release of my super hot and emotional Theirs to Take, the next erotic standalone romance in my Blasphemy series, about the twelve Masters who run and play at Baltimore’s most exclusive club. Theirs to Take is a sexy menage about what happens when two prior navy best friends and business partners meet a woman who makes them admit to desires they’ve never before voice. I think you’re going to love Jonathan and Cruz! I know I adored writing them! Even more fun, there are characters and scenes in Theirs to Take that cross over with the amazing Jennifer Probst’s brand new Reveal Me – and the best part is that both are standalones so you can dive right in!

Now, read in for a taste of Theirs to Take…

Hartley woke up to the image of Jonathan’s handsome face mere inches from her own. She smiled, because in the peace of sleep, he appeared younger, and she could almost imagine him at eighteen, tanned with sun-streaked hair, racing into the waves, a board under his arm.

But she didn’t want the boy he’d been. She wanted the man he was now. She peered up over Cruz’s ridged stomach at his ruggedly handsome face and the tribal black ink running down his upper arms. Yeah, she wanted the men that both of them were. Sailors, veterans, builders, friends. Men so confident in their sexuality that they could share a woman with another man.

At least, she wanted to explore this thing between them. It wasn’t just that the sex had been amazing—which it had—it was that they’d made her feel so damn special. More than that, they’d made her feel a part of something bigger than herself. For the first time in so long.

And that feeling combined with being surrounded by all this sexy, hard flesh had arousal stirring in her blood again. It was like that dream she’d had, only better. Because this was real.

She shifted, and Jonathan’s eyes blinked open. One side of his mouth lifted in a little smile. “Hey,” he whispered.

“Hey,” she whispered back. Mentally, she debated, and then she decided to follow Scarlett’s advice once more. Just go for it. “Tell me…tell me to do something.”

He arched a brow, heat chasing the lazy sleepiness from his gaze. “You need us again.”

It wasn’t a question, which made his words about a million times hotter. He understood what she was asking him. “Yes,” she said.

“Then suck Cruz’s cock,” he whispered.

The command made her pussy clench with need. Wanting to wake Cruz up with her mouth, not movement, she shifted as gingerly as she could. And then she took his cock into her mouth and tongued and sucked him until he grew against her tongue.

“Eyes on me,” Jonathan said. She complied readily, hungrily. “That’s it. Make him hard.” His hand stroked the back of her hair, each stroke a little more firm than the last. As if to let her know that he could hold her down on that cock at any time.

Annnd that thought had her suddenly wet between her legs.

“Fuck,” Cruz rasped, stirring beneath her. His hand fell against her head, too.

A moan spilled from her. She loved the feeling of both of them guiding her mouth.

“She likes our hands in her hair, Cruz,” Jonathan said, eyes locked on hers. “Don’t you?” She nodded as much as she could with her mouth full.

Now Cruz was the one groaning, and Hartley couldn’t help but thrust her hips against the bed.

“God, I want to fuck her mouth, Jonathan.”

“Would you like that, Hartley?” A fist in her hair, he urged her head up. “Tell me.”

“Yes,” she said, wound incredibly tight from just a few moments of their dominance. “I would love that.”

“Then tell him. Tell Cruz to fuck your mouth.” Jonathan’s stare was dark fire.

They fight the pull but lose completely. They decide maybe this unexpected twist of fate is worth the fun they could have since its only temporary. It gets hot and steamy,  angsty,  and will ultimately fill your heart to bursting.

When they head their separate ways,  they have to question what the right decision is because like it or not,  they have a baby on the way.  You will be on the edge of your seat til the end.

 One Temptation

Excerpt:
Carla’s skin was melting. Her cotton romper clung to her melty mess of a body in the heat of August in Cuba. Rivers of mascara ran down her face, and she would shank someone for an afternoon in air-conditioning with a stack of fashion magazines.

I just thought being with a redheaded Cuban girl would be more exciting.

Her ex-fiancé’s words echoed in her head for the millionth time since he dumped her and asked for the ring back. She hadn’t thought an accountant’s wife needed to be exciting, but what the fuck did she know about anything anymore?

She smiled at the driver, probably a guy from Tia Lola’s street. He’d picked her up at the airport to bring her to the family home. Lola’s house was a couple of blocks off the stately, crumbling facades along the Malecón. When he’d put her bag in the trunk, she’d tipped him with American money; she’d seen her father do it the last time they’d visited. She clutched her shoulder bag, remembering exactly how much money she had in there. She didn’t usually carry around thousands of dollars in cash.

When the car had pulled up to her aunt’s house, she tried to give the driver more money. In a few words of rapid Spanish, he refused her and smiled. She grabbed her suitcase out of the trunk, took a deep breath, and walked up to the door.

Even though the exterior needed a whole mess of masonry work, the colonial mansion was still impressive. Carla wasn’t sure how it had stayed in the family. She knew that her father’s aunt ran a casa particulare. She rented out some of the bedrooms to tourists for more money than anyone in Cuba could afford, but she wasn’t sure how that was enough to keep the place up—especially since Americans hadn’t been able to come here for fun for almost half a century.

That was changing, and Carla was here to help turn her aunt’s house into a boutique hotel so that her tia could retire and so that her family’s home could sustain itself.

When she knocked, she was expecting her sixty-something-year-old great aunt to open the massive, carved, wooden door. Instead, a giant stood on the threshold. A bare-chested giant with biceps the size of her head. Her mouth popped open—and went dry to be perfectly honest. She made the mistake of looking down, hoping for more clothing. What she found were thighs, just massive thighs, encased in black boxer briefs.

She was going to find her words, eventually. Right now, she just needed a minute. Her clothes felt even stickier on her body, her makeup more melty, and before she humiliated herself by muttering something like thiiiighs, she looked up at his face. That didn’t make the humidity situation with respect to her panties any better because he had the most perfect face. And the most perfect smirk to go with the most perfect face she’d ever seen. And to go along with the perfect brown skin and the—gah—muscles. The only thing not perfect about him was the scar that bisected one of his dark eyebrows and the furrow between said eyebrows.

“Seen enough, princess?” The giant’s voice resonated to her very marrow, and she nearly shivered with the desire to climb him like a tree. She barely registered that he spoke English with an American accent. She didn’t even take exception to the fact that he’d called her “princess.” That should hit a sore spot, but she wasn’t about to let it. Now that she was single, she needed to store this kind of thing up for her spank-bank.

But she knew it was probably better if she said something sooner or later. Before that drool started from the corner of her mouth and after memorizing the pattern of his chest hair. “Who are you?”

“Who the fuck are you?” He reared back a bit and seemed to pull air with him. That’s the only way she could explain following him into the foyer, pushing past his big body without spending too much time trying to cop a feel. Indeed, who the fuck was she, trying to cop a feel of an angry giant? It might be time to admit that she was beyond needing spank-bank material and right in the neighborhood of need-to-get-laid-right-now.

“Where’s Tia Lola?”

“You mean Señora Hernandez?”

“Do you ever answer questions without questions?”

“Only when I get my questions answered, princess.”

“Stop calling me that.”

“Answer my questions.”

She’d had about enough of his bullshit, but she surmised that the best way to get her questions answered was to give him what he wanted. “Okay. No, I haven’t seen enough because I’ve been sleeping with the same guy for three years, and he doesn’t look nearly as good as you in boxer briefs. Or at least he didn’t before he dumped me.” It felt so good to say exactly what was on her mind. With Geoff, she’d always had to watch her words. She took a breath, and continued while he still looked taken aback. “I’m Carla Hernandez. Lola Hernandez is my father’s aunt. I’m here to bring her—something.” She felt like a drug dealer carrying around this much money, but it was impossible to transfer American money to Lola’s bank account in Cuba.  She didn’t want to say money, because while the giant appeared to be benevolent and had certainly made himself at home here, she couldn’t be sure. “Now, who are you?”

“Jonah Kane.” Of course he had to have a name that sounded like he looked. He appeared to be wearing boulders under his skin. Of course his name would be hard, like rock. “I’m here working on a book, and I’m renting a room here.”

“You’re a writer?” she asked, surprised. “I know some writers have crazy rituals to make sure things get done, but leaving the U.S. just to get away from reliable Internet seems extreme.”

“I’m a photojournalist.”

That piqued her interest, but it seemed past due for him to put his pants on. For one thing, his body was going to give her a heatstroke-related seizure if she was exposed to it any longer. He was so hot it was starting to make her mad. For another thing, she could feel his judgmental glare and didn’t like the way he said princess—it was an insult disguised as an endearment, and she didn’t need that.

“Can you please go put some pants on?”

He leaned one hand on the bannister of the stairway leading to the bedrooms, with a sexy, cocky half-smile on his face. “Why? I thought you were getting a great show?”

Carla wasn’t going to rise to the bait of a jerk like that. She’d grown up with two of them—both her father and brother were a handful—so she just pointed upstairs. “Pants now, unbearable ego later.”

* * * *

Jonah stomped up the stairs, still cranky from his rude awakening. Mrs. Hernandez had told him her niece was coming for a visit. He wasn’t sure what he’d been expecting, but it wasn’t the woman who’d showed up at the door.

He’d perked right up when she gave him a slow once over, worrying that he’d have an inconvenient hard-on, one that he couldn’t control, for the first time in years. She wasn’t his usual type. His last girlfriend—if you could call her that—had been a foreign service officer in Kenya. Shannon spoke multiple languages and could handle a bit of rough in the bedroom—hell, she’d loved a bit of rough. Ultimately, the only place they were compatible was in bed, but she was the kind of woman he’d end up with.

Carla Hernandez was a pretty little pixie sprite who reeked of privilege. He wasn’t a big shopper, but it didn’t take a genius to guess that her outfit probably cost more than all the furniture in his New York apartment. She showed up from the U.S. in an all-white little suit thingy—like the kind toddlers wore. If that didn’t say idiotic rich girl, he wasn’t sure what did.

If he’d started in on any of the things he wanted to try with her—pushed her up against the wall and shut up her throaty little cock tease of a voice with his mouth—he’d probably ruin her clothes and maybe crack a rib.

No, the freckled redhead was not his type, but she’d managed to get under his skin in about ten seconds flat, and he hated that. He’d negotiated his way out of getting kidnapped by a terrorist group, and he was having dirty sex fantasies about a woman who would balk at the first hint of a spanking. Maybe he wasn’t being fair, but his gut told him that Carla was trouble, that it would be best to stay away. That pert, upturned nose combined with the deep smoky voice might make her sexy as hell, but he didn’t have time for a regular girl, much less a princess like her. Make him put on pants. He should have dropped his boxer briefs just to see what she’d have done. He smiled at the idea of shocking her.

When he got back downstairs, she was sitting on one of the old, falling-apart chairs in the room that Lola insisted on serving her tea in every afternoon, even though Jonah preferred beer. But, every afternoon he was there. He sat his ass down anyway and drank tea from the chipped service Lola had inherited from her grandmother.

Carla looked fresh and unconcerned as she pressed the cuff of her shorts flat with her fingertip, as if she was ensuring they were still straight. Like a nervous tick. She’d said she was here to give her aunt something, but she hadn’t said what that something was. He’d grown fond of Lola, and he didn’t want anyone taking advantage of her, including her own family.

“What are you really doing here?” His voice was overly harsh, and she jumped. He was usually careful about how he used his voice and his size, which wasn’t necessarily an asset in his line of work. Not many subjects forgot that he was there when he took up so much space.

“I don’t see how that’s any of your business.” She might not see it, but that didn’t matter. He wasn’t about to let any avaricious relatives get at a woman who’d treated him like a son during the months he’d been in Havana. “But, if you must know, I’m here because Lola needs help updating this place.”

Jonah looked around. He could see that, but he still didn’t trust that Carla wasn’t scheming to get this place out from under Lola and ship her great aunt off to some retirement home/purgatory until the woman kicked it. Jonah didn’t trust women with perfectly pleated white shorts or prissy-ass attitudes.

He sat down on the chair opposite her and it creaked in protest. “Doesn’t seem like it needs much updating to me.”

Carla brushed a large strand of red hair off of her face and behind her shoulder, revealing a swath of milky, freckled skin that make him think of summer. Innocence. When he looked up at her face, her plush lips were twisted into a suppressed smile. She’d caught him checking her out. And now she’d be on some power trip about how he wanted her—which, of course, he didn’t.

“It does need updating if she wants to turn this place into a successful B&B once tourism travel completely opens up.”

“She’s never said anything about wanting to do that.” Jonah pulled on his earlobe. “I think this place is charming as is. It’s a historical landmark. You’re probably wanting to tear out everything nice about the place and put in a one-hundred-thousand-dollar bathroom.”

She grimaced. “That’s mighty presumptuous of you. And, like I said, this isn’t any of your business.” She got up on her feet then. Her high heel echoed against the bright, mosaic stone floor.  “Where’s my aunt?”

“Great aunt.”

“I’m well aware of our relationship to each other. Where is she?”

“She’s at the park, playing checkers with her friends. She usually comes back around four and makes tea.”

She mumbled, “I hope she has rum for the tea.” She hefted her carry-on and roller bag and walked out of the room.

He had to fight himself to keep from grabbing her bag and carrying it up the stairs for her. And then he had to fight his hard-on again when she turned around. She might be lean, but her ass was to die for. His heart picked up at the thought of palming it, and an image of her mouth, wide with the shock of taking him inside as he grabbed both half-globes, took him over for a split second. Not even her grumbling something about being a gentleman stopped him from thinking about what she’d look like naked and wanting him.

He did not have time for this shit.

USA Today Bestselling author Andie J. Christopher writes edgy, funny, sexy contemporary romance. She grew up in a family of voracious readers, and picked up her first Harlequin Romance novel at age twelve when she’d finished reading everything else in her grandmother’s house. It was love at first read. It wasn’t too long before she started writing her own stories — her first heroine drank Campari and wore a lot of Esprit.

Although, she set aside writing fiction for a while, her love of romance novels stayed with her through college, law school, and multiple cross-country moves. During one long East Coast winter, she decided writing a book would be a good excuse to avoid braving the elements. It was love at first write. Her heroes are dirty-talking alphas, and her heroines traded Esprit for Free People. (None of them would turn down a Campari, though.)

Review – One Night by Aleatha Romig

AROneNightBookCover6x9_MEDIUM

One Night by Aleatha Romig

My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars

When you finish a romance, one you CONSUMED in one night, and are still GLOWING and GIDDY like a school girl with her first crush, you know it’s a super star of a story. ONE NIGHT by Aleatha Romig delivers a dual dose of HEAT and HEART, a HEADY HIT felt everywhere!!!

One night was all it took for me to devour Aleatha Romig’s latest sensation. One night and I SMOLDERED. One night and I SWOONED. One night was all it took for One Night to OWN EVERY OUNCE OF ME. One night and I was a GONER for this head-in-the clouds love story. One Night and it felt like coming home, the most delicious deja vous, as I already met the shortened version of this story under Aleatha Romig’s former alter ego or the dynamic duo known as Jade Sinner.

Beautiful and caring Amanda Wells was struck by a tragedy that forever altered her world. She has no time for dating with a busy life dedicated to her family and work. I felt her pain and struggle, a blow no one should bear.

One encounter one night with a stranger, a gorgeous god, Malcolm, changes Amanda’s night…her world…everything.

“You said you want one night. One night doesn’t end with a kiss. It begins with one.”

Malcolm and Amanda are magical together and I loved them! This hero and heroine’s pull is instant, their chemistry combustible, their meeting perhaps inevitable. It FELT like FATE, as if this romance was meant to be and MEANT FOR ME.

It’s one of my favorite views, watching her come.

HOLY HOTNESS!!! Malcolm and his delicious mouth are SMOKIN’ HOT! One Night is SULTRY, a story that BLAZES with heat and BURNS with desire. Oh did I burn too!

“What do you want?”

“Oh, beautiful. I want you.”

I’m DONE! Malcolm’s beautiful and bold words made me MELT me into a pool of gushy feels. I felt ALL OF THE SWOON! This hot and huge-hearted hero POSSESSED ME! Oh was I Malcolm’s!

One Night by Aleatha Romig is a sexy, swoon-filled, butterfly-fluttering, full-of-feels love story….but SO MUCH MORE!!! One Night is FATE FUSED WITH FEELS. One Night is a tale of destiny, so dreamy that you’ll float to Cloud Nine. One Night delivers two meaningful messages, mantras that we all should follow: Live life to its fullest; don’t let it pass you by. If life knocks you down, dust yourself off, get back up, and try again…rise again.

As I continue to bask in the afterglow of sweetness, still warm from the heat, I can’t help but SMILE from this special story that I got to feel again. One Night BURNED MY BODY and STORMED MY SOUL, hitting my heart where my emotions were engulfed in this romance, pulling at every part of me. My soul sank into this story along with my heart. I was BEGUILED with this book that quickly became BOOK BLISS! I was wholeheartedly hooked! Hook. Line. Sinker. One night was all it took for this tantalizing and tender tale to become one AMAZING ADDICTION!

A MUST-READ ROMANCE!!!

A sweet, fun, and sexy stand-alone romance from New York Times bestselling author Aleatha Romig.

One night to remember

Is that too much to desire?

One night for fun, passion, and a chance to remember what it’s like to be a woman.
I’m not looking for love.
There’s a man in my life who loves me with all his heart. He has beautiful blue eyes, is three feet tall, and calls me mommy.
He’s my whole world and I’m his. Fate stole his daddy way too soon.
What would happen if I allowed fate another chance, just for one night?

One night to help a friend

Why did I agree to this?
Blind dates are disasters. If I weren’t helping the friend of a friend, I wouldn’t go.
I’m not looking for romance, love, or even a one-night stand.
After all, the man my friend knew is gone. I’m no longer the hockey star known for his “pep” on the ice and in the sack. I have a new life, and a new career—a new passion. I’m not looking for more.

Mandy

When we finally pull apart, before I can speak or even contemplate what happened, Malcolm’s blue eyes shine down on me, taking me in and reading me.

His voice rumbles through the background commotion of the bar. “You taste like sweet wine and smell like perfume and desire.”

Warmth fills my cheeks. “You taste like good beer.”

“Good? You’re a beer connoisseur?”

I shrug. “Mostly, I know cheap beer.”

He lifts my chin, bringing his indigo eyes into focus. The room disappears, making those blue orbs all I can see.

“I’m a connoisseur,” he says as his thumb gently rubs over my bruised lips. “And you, beautiful Mandy, if you were a beer, would never be a cheap one. No, you’re a rich custom craft brew. I see it in your eyes, feel it in your touch, and smell it in the air. Kissing a stranger isn’t something you do, is it?”

I try to move my eyes away, but Malcolm’s grip of my chin is unrelenting. Meeting his gaze, I reply, “No. I won’t even bore you with how long it’s been since I’ve kissed a real man.”

His eyes sparkle. “You kiss fake men?”

“Boys. Well, only one actually.”

“You kiss boys…” And then, as if the reality of his statement hits home, he asks, “You have a son?”

My heart flutters, its speed increasing by the second. “I do, but I don’t want to talk about him. Not because he isn’t important for he is—he’s my world—but because tonight isn’t about him. It’s about me.” I can’t gauge Malcolm’s reaction. I can only guess that he’s assuming that I’m some needy woman trying to get a man to take on the responsibility of a kid who isn’t his.

I reach out and splay my fingers over his chest. His heart is beating to match mine. “I don’t want to talk about him,” I continue, “because he’ll never know about you—I’ll never tell him and never introduce you. Don’t worry. I’m not after a man to rescue me. I’m perfectly content with my life as a mother. I just wanted to remember what it felt like to be a woman…for just one night.”

“I’m not anti-children—”

I shake my head. “Stop. That doesn’t matter.” It’s then that I notice the filled glasses on the table and laugh. “When did the waitress come?”

Malcolm bows his head until our noses touch. He inhales deeply, his eyes closing as his hand falls to my lap. “I’d say just after you.”

More heat floods my cheeks. “I-I didn’t…”

“Then we need to do something about that.” He looks again at the full glasses. “I think the drinks came while my tongue was busy getting to know your sweet mouth.” His hand splays over my thigh.

My breathing hitches. “Malcolm?”

“You said you want one night. One night doesn’t end with a kiss. It begins with one.”
