Review – Twisted by Mandi Beck

Twisted by Mandi Beck

I feel like I must start this review by saying I have a love/hate relationship with novellas. On the one hand I love the fact that novellas are quick reads that you can squeeze in, in between others BUT I also sometimes feel that novellas have something missing, are rushed and always leave me wanting SO MUCH MORE from the story, so very rarely can I give a novella 5 stars…

However, I’m doing a total 180 after reading TWISTED. Because I’m giving it ALL THE STARS!! Honestly, I haven’t read a novella/short story THIS GOOD in a lonnnng time.

Twisted is a quick read, that does move fast but misses NOTHING. There is sizzling sexual tension. Creative character connection that thrills to the very core. Burning hot chemistry. A story that was a joy and utter pleasure to read. And even after finishing I can scream that I want more but I want more of Jasper & Fannin. Everything else was there, nothing was lacking. Twisted had it all.

Mandi Beck sure knows how to write men. Hot, delicious, sinful, alpha men. She has wrote two of my ultimate fave hero’s ever and Jasper is now sitting pretty up there with them. Jasper is a swoony, swoony bastard. He made my heart go pitter patter and my stomach almost take off with the amount of butterflies it had flapping inside it. He’s raw, dirty, sexy, manly, swoony, did I say that? Wait, did I mention he was Scottish?! *gasps* Lord, I think I pretty much highlighted every single word this man said. Swoony, sexy bastard. *sigh*

Mandi also knocked it out the park with Fannin! What a sexy, sassy heroine she was. I loved her! Together, from the impromptu bar meeting, to the insta-lust, to the hot, combustible sex, to the infectious passionate love, Jasper & Fannin are PERFECT for one another and I adore them.

Twisted may be a novella within the Imperfect Love Kindle world series but actually in all honesty.. Twisted stands on a world of its own.

Six, tantalizingly terrific stars!

Three friends walk into a bar . . . One walks out the fake girlfriend of a hot, bearded Scotsman.

Fannin McGuire is up for promotion at Tate and Cane Enterprises, but first she has to make it through her stepsister’s wedding. To Fannin’s ex. Yep. Her ex-fiancé is about to be her new brother-in-law. One big happy family. And lucky her, she also gets to work with him.

While Fannin is putting all of her energy into her career, her ex is putting all of his energy into making her life hell. Just when Fannin is sure she’ll be attending the wedding without a plus one, in walks Jasper James to save the day. He’s the bartender at the Iron Flask, the account she’s trying to land, and everything she didn’t know she needed or wanted. Before Fannin knows what’s happening, Jasper is playing knight in shining armor and she likes it. And him. A lot. With his smooth Scottish accent, ridiculously good looks, and that beard? She doesn’t stand a chance.

Jasper isn’t in the habit of rescuing anyone. But when Fannin is confronted by her ex about her lack of a date for his upcoming nuptials, Jasper can’t help but step in. Her wild hair, violet eyes, and killer legs have him doing a few things he normally wouldn’t. Never mind that he shouldn’t be getting involved with the woman in charge of making the bar a global success.

Their fake relationship becomes more real than either thought it would. Now they’re at the mercy of their feelings when truths are twisted, and the lies don’t taste as smooth as the whisky.

Twisted is only available on Amazon US as part of the kindle world.

Review – The Farthest Edge by Kristen Ashley

The Farthest Edge by Kristen Ashley

My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars

Sometimes you need to travel outside of your comfort zone with a bold book. An adrenaline rush of a read, The Farthest Edge by Kristen Ashley hurls you over the edge. You’ll dangle off the cliff of desire, dabbling in a thrilling and tantalizing world. Evocative and erotic yet tender and touching, The Farthest Edge burns the body and hijacks the heart.

The Farthest Edge starts with a slow burn but then SMOLDERS with sizzle and suspense! The INTRIGUE and INTENSITY made my heart beat out of my chest. The fusion of heat and heart MELTED me everywhere. Smooth and sinfully sweet like honey, this story stuck to me where I became UNGLUED.

Kristen Ashley takes readers on another tantalizing trip to The Honey Club in The Farthest Edge where deepest desires come true, including YOURS. The Queen Bees rule at The Honey Club where women take control as beautiful dominants with male submissives. This book focuses on one fire-hot couple: Evangeline and Branch. In the outside world, Branch is all alpha. Inside The Honey Club, he bows to the beautiful Mistress Evangeline.

He liked to be pushed to the edge? She was going to take him there. Shove him right over. And go over with him. And when they landed, they were going to explode. All over the place. And love every bit of it.

The push and pull of this story made me HOT and HEEDY, my head and heart thoroughly SEDUCED. Branch and Evangelines’ push for power and pull of passion FLAMED with FEELS. I felt their angst bleed through me along with their desire.

Fire meets ice when Evangeline and Branch collide, a fusion of power and passion that ignite to a BEAUTIFUL BURN. Branch is a brooding and beautiful alpha who needs to be tamed. Evangeline is a stunning beauty who needs to control. Branch needs to be deliciously dominated to forget. Evangeline needs to dominate to remember.

“I need you to sway my world right about now.”

“Okay, baby,” she whispered, “I’ll sway your world.”

I was a voyeur in Kristen Ashley’s delicious dominant and submissive world, one where I wanted to be a player too. This series is the best mix of DECADENCE and DESIRE. A delicious drug, The Farthest Edge is the ULTIMATE ADDICTION. The Farthest Edge pulls you out of your comfort zone, hurling you over the edge straight to ECTASY! You just can’t help but SUBMIT to this story.

“Ready to slip over the edge with me, baby?”

Step into the Honey Club, where every sensual boundary will be tested in search of the ultimate pleasure…

Branch doesn’t exist. Living off the grid, he’s looking for a way to forget his past and the guilt that plagues him. But no woman has ever been able to bring him to the edge he craves.

After a traumatic experience of her own, Evangeline stepped away from the decadent world of the Honey Club. But when she gets Branch’s offer—to play without boundaries or commitments—it’s too tempting for her to refuse.

As their passion ignites, Evangeline and Branch push each other to their farthest limit, fulfilling their darkest desires while falling harder and deeper than they ever imagined.

He knew this was her playroom before he’d entered but right then he saw that she didn’t hide it under sheets and tarps, just behind the shutters.

Branch shifted the light around, seeing a horse, a bench, a table, all of them good quality. It cost a mint to outfit a good playroom and she didn’t make do. She’d been investing. Making smart purchases that would look good, stand strong during play and last a while.

Fashionable sink in the corner set in an attractive wood vanity, two matching tall, slim cupboards on each side.

He moved there, looked through the vanity and cupboards. Thick towels. Washcloths. Wet wipes. Soap. Bottles of foam anti-bacterial. Cleaning supplies. A large box of condoms. A little basket filled with some cosmetics—powder, lipsticks, gloss. Another filled with first-aid supplies—Band-Aids, bottles of antiseptic, tubes of ointment, gauze, cotton.

He closed the door to the cupboard he was inspecting, turned and shined the light around the room. Moving across the space, he noted hooks on the walls, in the ceiling, eyes in the floor, all looking sturdy. Whoever put them in might have wondered why or he’d been hers. But whoever that was knew what they were doing.

There was a tall cabinet and a large dresser across the room, both in the wood that made up the vanity and the cupboards. It all matched, was heavy and dark but attractive, giving the space the definite feel of playroom, not a dungeon. It was stylish and handsome, even warm, somewhere you’d want to stay awhile.

He didn’t think on his last thought as he opened the top cupboard doors of the cabinet and shined the light in, feeling what he found there in his dick.

Cats. Whips. Switches. Flogs. Paddles. Some straps. Some harnesses. All hanging from hooks. All well organized and well maintained. All also excellent quality. Not many, but again, quality, not quantity, was what she was clearly going for.

He closed the doors and crouched down to the two drawers at the bottom of the cabinet, opening them. Top one had silk ropes, some chains, shackles, cuffs. The bottom drawer was full of leather straps with cinches attached.

Branch straightened, moved to the dresser. Nothing littered the top, so he opened the first drawer.

What he found there made his balls draw up.

Carefully placed in what looked like purple silk-lined, custom-made grooves were her toys.

Plugs. Cocks. Vibrators. The first two in an impressive range of lengths, girths and shapes. If they had them, remotes were placed at the side of the toy they controlled. There was also a complicated cock ring, rabbit ears at the front for clit stimulation, and a strap that would lead between the balls to a bullet that could be inserted in the anus, all of it obviously vibrated—triple the fun.

She like ass.

Not many of her kind didn’t.

He didn’t think on that either.

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorize and she hadn’t taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen’s Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.

Nothing’s changed.

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she’s blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.

Review – Remember by Dylan Allen

Remember by Dylan Allen

When Dylan Allen released her debut novel Rise, she blew me away. The passion she poured into her writing was clear as day and so easy to read. I said after that, that I was eager to see where Dylan took her writing career and now, after reading Remember, I can say she’s gone and blasted herself to another world.

The start is brutal. I felt every crack of heartbreak that Milly goes through. Suffering through a break up is the worst thing and Dylan absolutely nailed the feelings, the emotions, the whole heart breaking reality of it.

I adore Milly. So much. She became one hell of a character! And her hero Dean. Omg! Dean is FIYAH! That man lit up my insides, sent my heart galloping and liquefied my soul!

What eventually develops in Remember is a breathtaking second chance romance that is beautiful and heartwarming. Not without its ups and downs of course, but the whole book is balanced so, so well. Everything flows with a stunning fluidity. I devoured this book whole.

I really hope you get this book and I really hope you read it. I really hope that you get lost in the words and the story Dylan beautifully puts together. Because it’s one hell of a story. Mesmerizing and magnificent.

5 beautiful, remember me stars!

Millicent

Milly’s life was safe. Her plans, certain.

She doesn’t take risks because she knows what it’s like to lose everything.

But, when it all falls apart, she decides to throw caution to the wind.

Her journey to reclaim her future leads her straight into the grown up arms of the boy she left behind.

In them, she finds passion long denied and love she thought was lost.

But is the promise of a second chance worth the risk of losing herself again?
Dean

When he discovers that the girl he has loved his whole life moved on without him, Dean needs answers.

He didn’t expect to still want her.

He didn’t expect her to want him, too.

And suddenly, he finds himself in a battle for the heart of the woman he’s never stopped loving.

As they look to the past for answers, can they hold onto the future they were meant to have?

Or will what they remember make them wish they could forget?

Review – Somebody Else’s Sky by Jessica Hawkins

Somebody Else’s Sky by Jessica Hawkins

Sophie’s Review:

I’m not sure whether I love Jessica Hawkins right now or dislike her a lot. Because HOLY MAMA! That was one intense, powerful read.

Continuing on from Something In The Way, which wrecked me in the best possible way,  Somebody Else’s Sky only serves to up the angst, up the heartache and up the intensity. My heart and soul are WRUNG OUT! I feel like I’m free falling. BUT! Here’s the thing… I’d quite happily go right back to the start and begin ALL OVER AGAIN!!!!

That’s right, I said it! I would quite happily start afresh and relive all the heartbreak and devastation that these books deliver because IT IS THAT GOOD! And you know right before the 3rd book releases I will do just that.

I’m not going to comment on the storyline or what happens in this book, for fear of spoiling it. All I can say is read it, pick up both books, fall in love with the writing wizard that is Jessica Hawkins and simply lose yourself to the addictive power of this breathtaking story.

5 sensational stars!

If I closed my eyes, I could still see them—all blonde sunshine, ocean-blue eyes, and long limbs. The glint of Lake’s gold bracelet. Pink cotton candy on Tiffany’s tongue. My scenery may have changed from heaven to hell, but some things never would: my struggle to do right by both sisters. To let Lake soar. To lift Tiffany up. The sacrifices I made for them, I made willingly.

A better man would’ve walked away by now, but I never claimed to be any good. I only promised myself I’d keep enough distance. If I’d learned one thing from my past, it was that love came in different forms. You could love passionately, hurt deep, die young. Or you could provide the kind of firm, steady support someone else could lean on.

Lake was everything I wanted, and nothing I could ever have. I was nobody before I knew her and a criminal after. The way to love her was to let her shine—even if it would be for somebody else.

Book two in the Something in the Way series.

Review – Sexy Jerk by Kim Karr

Sexy Jerk by Kim Karr

Sophie’s Review:

Each and every time Kim Karr writes a book, I’m pretty sure I say it’s my new favourite of hers. Each book just gets better and better and I end up falling head over heels in love with them. And with this book, it’s no different. THIS IS Kim’s BEST BOOK to date! I don’t know how she does it but she swept me off my feet with this sinful, yet hella sweet romance!

I actually lost count of the amount of times I swooned or physically got butterflies. I lost count of the amount of times I thought to myself “I love this guy” and “where can I get me a Nick?”. Kim’s men are ALWAYS quality alpha hero’s but there was just something about Nick that gave him that edge, that made him become my FAVE Karr hero yet!

The sexual tension that Kim has poured into Sexy Jerk relays so, so well. You feel it bubbling, you feel it building. You feel it EXPLODE. Tess & Nick are incredibly HOT. Sooooo hot. But they are also sweet and sexy. And FUN, my gosh they made my heart swell and my constant smile hurt my face. Their witty banter and hilarious back and forth really solidified these two as one hell of a couple.

Sexy Jerk as I said at the start is Kim Karr’s best book yet. Sexy and sinful, sweet and full of swoon, it easily covers all the “contemporary romance” bases and then some!

My best friend is married.

Everyone I know is married. It doesn’t bother me. I like my life the way it is.

Since I’m single though, when my best friend and her husband finally decide to go on their dream honeymoon, she asks me to watch their three-year-old son.

Of course I say yes.

What my best friend neglects to tell me is that I won’t be babysitting alone.

Feeling Max might be too much for me to handle, her husband asks his only single friend to help.

Nick Carrington and I have met a couple of dozen times. I’ve never really given him a second thought—other than to say he’s kind of a jerk. Out loud. So he can hear. Sure, he’s tall, dark, and handsome. And yes, he has the best ass I’ve ever seen, and I mean ever seen quite literally. You see he mooned me at last year’s Fourth of July barbecue because, like I said, he’s a jerk.

He always has to be the life of the party.

He’s also arrogant.

Imposing.

Rich.

And a playboy.

I’d even go as far as to say he’s a manwhore.

Yet somehow before I know it, this manwhore and I are co-parenting. Living under the same roof. Eating meals together and yes, talking.

Don’t look at me like that—it’s not like I had a choice. Even though I knew every minute would be hell, I had to say yes.

But after two weeks what I didn’t expect to discover is that I’d been wrong about him.

That under his smart-ass exterior, he’s quite charming.

That his arrogance is really confidence.

And that the sight of his naked body would do really bad things to me.

So yes, I’d misjudged him. And yes, I like him. Really like him. Although I might still think he’s a jerk…I now think he’s a sexy jerk.

And I want more of him.

The question is—does he want more of me?

Review – All That I Am by Rachel Brookes

All That I Am Ebook Cover

Review graphic

Sasha Hamilton has everything that she could ever ask for – a thriving business, her dream home, a brother she adores and friends that are have become the family that she can depend on. After losing her mother at fifteen from a heartbreaking choice and then her father to his untimely death, Sasha has set up her walls and love is out of the question. One night stands have become the norm and all her energy is thrown into having a good time. That all changes when the sexy Monroe PD detective Ben Hunt and all his alpha bossiness comes into her life.

Ben Hunt has wanted Sasha Hamilton for as long as he can remember. He’s attracted to her sassy mouth, beautiful body and go for it all attitude. But under all that bravado, he knows her pain and has seen her insecurity. He wants past her walls, to protect her and give her everything that she has been missing out on since she was fifteen. When danger makes its way to the Hamilton family bar and a common enemy targets Sasha, Ben vows to do whatever it takes to keep Sasha safe and show her that love can truly heal a heart.

Oh, this book! So worth the wait… so worth all the agony, doubt and anxiety! All That I Am is one amazing read. There was no way to put this one down once I began reading. I devoured this beautiful love story. So many loves… the love between a girl and her big brother. The love between two very best friends. Who doesn’t want a best friend like Missy? The love of family made in the heart. But the most important love I saw was the love that Sasha was finally able to give to herself after building such high walls to protect herself. Amazing to see how easily that love changed everything and gave Sasha the courage to try.

Ben is… perfect. Bossy though he may be, he is everything that Sasha needs. He’s kind, protective and persistent. He has an incredible sense of humor. Yes, he is divine and so very swoony. He gave me a few jaw dropping moments. He gave me plenty of heart in my throat moments as well. No matter what he said or did, Ben made me smile and confirmed why he’s MY Ben.

This was one of the best reads of the year for me. It was long awaited… and even a little bit delayed in the last month. Regardless of the setbacks and bumps in the road on the way to release, Rachel has written a tremendous story filled with belly laughs, gut wrenching tears, surprising twists and turns and just a good old fashioned heartfelt love story. What a welcome to Monroe.

Brilliantly and beautifully done, Rachel!

A kickass home décor boutique – tick
A sassy mouth and absolutely no filter – tick
A wall so strong no man could ever tear it down – tick, tick, tick!

Or so I thought.

Until I meet Detective Ben Hunt, the owner of exquisite blue eyes, a god-like physique and a seductive smirk that makes me weak at the knees. He charges into my life like a force of nature. No matter how hard I try to keep the walls up around my heart, he’s made it his mission to shatter them. I have no chance of resisting him, but I would make sure I won this tug of war.

Which was what I wanted.

Right? When did the idea of losing myself to him start to sound so good?

I wish Ben was the only battle I faced. There’s a reason this small town needs a good detective. One way or another I’m going to have to brace for impact, because no wall I build can stop the new threat thundering toward Monroe.

After all, secrets only stay a secret for so long around here.

PROLOGUE

SASHA

Thirteen years earlier.

 “Mom! I’m home.”

Summer break had arrived, and all I could think about was lying out with Missy, shopping trips into the city with Mom, and spending Sundays dancing and causing underage havoc at my family’s bar, Hamilton’s.

I shrugged off my bag, dropped it on the couch, and then strolled through the house, listening for any signs of where my mom was.

As soon as I walked into the kitchen, I stopped. The familiar aroma of chocolate didn’t greet me, and my mom’s perfume didn’t linger in the air. I turned around quickly and looked to the counter where a fresh plate of brownies always sat on Friday afternoons. But today, for the first time, there was nothing.

I left the kitchen and searched the house.

Living room. Empty.

Dining room. Empty.

Bathroom. Empty.

Everywhere. Empty.

I began to panic. After school, I never arrived home to an empty house. Mom made it very clear that she’d always be here when Drew and I got home. For as long as I could remember, she’d told us that her favorite thing about being a Mom was being able to be home for us.

Now she wasn’t here.

“Sasha.”

I jumped at Dad’s voice calling my name behind me. I turned quickly, smiling, expecting to find Dad and Mom together. As soon as I saw him on his own, my smile fell. He stood in the foyer with his arms folded across his chest, and he didn’t look like my Dad. He looked like a shadow of himself. His eyes would always twinkle when he looked at me, but now they showed nothing but sadness.

“Where’s mom?” I asked as my heart raced.

“Come here, Sash,” Dad said low, his voice cracking.

Hesitantly, I moved toward him. When I was within reach, his hand shot out and grabbed mine and I was pulled toward him.

“Dad, what’s going on?”

We moved through the house in silence. Every step I took, my anxiety soared and my confusion grew. What was going on? Dad held open the back door, and I stepped out onto the porch. Drew leaned against the railing, looking out over the yard, but turned when he heard us arrive. His face was as blank as Dad’s.

I took a seat on the porch swing and held one of the yellow cushions Mom and I had purchased during one of our epic shopping trips close to my chest. “Where’s mom?” I asked softly. “What’s going on?”

If it were anyone else, including Dad, I would of thought he was at the store or at work, but not Mom. She was always here. Our family had traditions. Friday’s were our time.

Dad, Mom, Drew, and me.

“I love you more than anything, Sasha,” Dad said, his voice strangled with emotion and his eyes shimmering with tears. He sucked in a deep breath before saying the words that would forever change my life. “She’s gone, Baby Girl. She left.”

Gone.

Left.

His words hit me hard.

My throat closed as his words sunk in. The tormented look shadowing his face didn’t lie, but I didn’t want to believe it. I wanted to believe there was some kind of mistake, but why would my Dad lie to me about something like this? Gone and left were final. There was no mistaking what they meant.

“Baby Girl, did you hear me?”

“What do you mean she’s gone?” I stammered, as the first tear fell over my cheek.

Dad wrapped his arms around me and hauled me against his chest. The usual comfort his arms provided had no chance of healing the hurt spiraling through me.

There was no way she’d leave. Why would she have told me this morning that she breathed for us? That her heart beat for us. My mother was everything I dreamt of becoming, and now I was being told she was gone?

“This can’t be real.” I shook my head. “There has to be a mistake.” My voice became more frantic and louder with every word. “How do you even know she’s gone? Maybe she’s just at the store. Or popped into work.”

I was clutching onto anything that would lessen the pain tearing through me.

“She isn’t at the store.” Dad spoke softly. “She isn’t at Hamilton’s either.”

I tore myself away from Dad and ran back inside. I had to see for myself. I went into every room and found nothing. I hesitated outside my parent’s room and then slowly entered. The dresser was bare. Mom’s jewelry was gone, her favorite perfume gone, her lipstick gone. I stumbled into the closest and was smacked in the face with a brutal reality. Mom’s clothes, shoes, and her suitcase were gone.

Nothing was left.

Everything was gone.

Feeling numb, I walked into my room and lay on my bed. I buried my face in my pillow as the first sob left my chest. Tears saturated my pillow, and my chest ached from trying to catch my breath.

As I pulled the pillow closer, the crinkle of paper sounded. With shaking hands, I pulled out a folded piece of paper from beneath my pillow and held my breath as I saw my mom’s familiar handwriting. I inhaled sharply and unfolded it.

Baby girl,

Please never forget how much I love you. You will always be in my heart, and every breath I take is for you.

Forgive me,

Mom x

The words became blurry as fresh tears hit my eyes. Why would she do this? My mother chose to leave me? Why wasn’t I enough? My chest screamed at me. The pain was excruciating, and I felt like my heart was going to stop.

I didn’t hear my bedroom door open and didn’t know anyone was in my room until I felt my bed dip beside me.

“Squirt, come here,” Drew whispered as he grabbed my hand and pulled me against his body.

I went willingly to him and crashed against his chest. His arms circled me, and I cried against his shirt, soaking the cotton with hot, heartbreaking tears.

“How could she do this?” I choked out through another wave of tears. “What did we do wrong?”

“We did nothing. You did nothing wrong.” The strength in his voice made me look up at him. “We are the Hamilton kids. We will get through this. I promise you, Sasha.”

My brother. My protector.

“I’ll never let anything or anyone hurt you again. You have my word and my protection for life.”

I believed him.

I had to believe him.

The only thing Poppy is sure of is that her heart is in need of some serious repair, and the more time she spends with Wheeler, the more she’s convinced he’s the only man with the tools to fix it.

EXCERPT:

Poppy

I rounded the corner at the end of my block and came to a halt. The puppy took that as a sign that we were done playing outside and started jumping all over my lower legs and pawing at my shins. He whined at me until I picked him up, and as soon as he could reach my face, his little tongue started darting all over my chin and cheeks. I wondered if he could feel the tension that made my limbs stiff and the anxiety that tightened all my muscles. I felt my breath catch in the back of my throat and there was no stopping my eyes from rapidly blinking to make sure what I was seeing was real and not a figment of my imagination.

He looked like one of those black-and-white art prints that hung in every diner and restaurant I’d ever eaten in. The one that was a throwback to another era when cool was something you had to cultivate and couldn’t buy on Amazon. He was leaning against a black-and-silver car that looked like it should be on the cover of a hot-rod magazine and not parked on a busy and crowded Capitol Hill street. He had on dark jeans and a dark canvas jacket that had the logo of his garage embroidered on the front. His ankles were crossed on the curb in front of him and one booted foot bounced up and down, giving the impression that he’d been waiting for me for a while. His arms were crossed over his chest and his eyes were locked on mine as I stood still, unsure what to do. He had an effortless kind of charisma that radiated off of him. It was equal parts intimidating and irresistible. I was unsure if my feet wanted to rush me toward him or run me as far from him as possible.

The puppy made the decision for me. Seeing another human, and thus another opportunity for pats and rubs, he threw his wiggling little body out of my arms before I could react. He hit the ground with a little yelp and then bolted right for Wheeler. I let out a gasp and took off after him thinking I could catch the end of the leash that was trailing behind him. I didn’t want him to run into the road or veer off into a yard where he didn’t belong. I was light-years away from being able to handle a confrontation with a hostile stranger that didn’t want the puppy in their space.

I didn’t need to worry because Wheeler pushed his long, lean frame off the polished side of the car and reached the scrambling animal within just a few strides. He crouched down as the puppy hurled himself into his arms and scooped the excited bundle up in one fluid motion. Then he was rising back up to his full height, which meant he was towering over me when I made my way over to where he was standing. I was embarrassed at how out of breath I was. I was supposed to be stronger than I was before, but I could hardly handle a little jog up the block or the way my heart raced at the sight of him.

I shook my head and put my hands on my hips as I looked up and into those arctic eyes. He was scratching the puppy under the chin and looking at me from under lashes that had the barest hint of red to them. “Why don’t you have a coat on?”

It wasn’t what I was expecting but his question reminded me that I was cold and that the lightweight hoodie that had the Saints of Denver logo on it wasn’t doing much to keep the bitter chill in the air off my skin. The shirt came from the tattoo shop where both Rowdy and Salem worked and was probably the most exciting garment I had in my closet. It was the only thing I owned that was bright and colorful. I rubbed my arms up and down and fired my own question right back at him. “What are you doing here?”

The puppy barked like he was telling me not to be rude but I was unsettled by Wheeler’s unexpected appearance, and not the typical unsettled that I struggled with because he was a man that I didn’t know. It was the kind of unsettled that made parts of my body I forget could react to an attractive man feel warm and tingly. The kind of unsettled that had me involuntarily leaning closer to him as he started to shift so that he could pull his heavy jacket off one arm without letting go of the dog.

“I wanted to talk to you about the dog. Did you find someone to take him yet?” He shifted the puppy to his now bare arm as I watched the endless amounts of ink that covered his skin move and flex as he shook his other arm free of the coat.

“Uh…not really.” The truth was I hadn’t really put that much effort into finding someone because I didn’t want to let the puppy go. In just a few days I’d grown surprisingly attached even though I knew I wasn’t allowed to keep him in my apartment. I’d already asked since Dixie was allowed to keep Dolly, but the landlord informed they were grandfathered in before the laws surrounding pit bulls in Denver changed. My little guy wasn’t that lucky.

My response made Wheeler chuckle. He stared at me silently as he held out the coat he’d taken off in his free hand.

“Put this on.” I stared at him like he’d suddenly started speaking Russian until he shook the coat again and frowned at me. His voice was serious and left no room for argument when he repeated the command. “Put this on, Poppy.”

Review – Sexy Stranger by Kendall Ryan

Sexy Stranger by Kendall Ryan

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I can’t stop grinning and it’s all because of Kendall Ryan. Sweet SIGH. I have a huge SAPPY SMILE on my face from Kendall Ryan’s latest spicy and swoon-filled sensation, Sexy Stranger. In one HELLA GOOD surprise attack, Sexy Stranger snuck up on me, swiftly swooping in and stealing my heart. This romance ROCKED MY WORLD!

I’m a sucker for small town romances, and the Texas setting is just DREAMY! I LOVED all-alpha country candy, Luke, and sassy and sexy Charlotte. Together they are combustible!

The banter is ENTICING and ENTERTAINING:

“I shouldn’t have assumed that you were all cowboys. You’re clearly just an a**hole.”

“Takes one to know one, sweetheart.”

The FEELS pound the pages:

Was it just me? Or did she feel it too?

The HEAT blazes so hot it BURNS:

“What do you say, sweetheart? Are you ready to ride my cock?”

The FEELS pound and penetrate some more:

“Ask me to stay.”

The SWOON flows in SPADES:

“If you ever need to run again, just promise this time that you’ll take me with you.”

I FELT the heat, the angst, the longing, and the swoon. I FELT IT ALL. This Sexy Stranger OWNED ME.

There is nothing that quite spikes the adrenaline and flames the feels than a feisty enemies-to-lovers tale. This romance POUNDS with PASSION and seduces with steam. Sexy Stranger is a slow burn of a book that blazes with passion and bleeds angst, the PERFECT FIERY FUSION.

Fire-hot and feisty meet sweet and swoon in Sexy Stranger, a heart-pounding love story that leaves you MELTING for MORE. I was DRUNK on this book, as Sexy Stranger was my sweet and slow-burning whiskey, so delicious. IMMENSE INTOXICATION. Kendall Ryan wrote a whiskey-smooth and sweet romance that is UTTERLY UNPUTDOWNABLE. I LOVED this whiskey-coated love story and NEED MORE.

Review – Hold Me by J. Kenner

Hold Me: A Stark Ever After Novella by J. Kenner

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

When I open up a Stark series book, I can’t help but breathe out a SWEET SIGH, a SMILE embedded on my face as I SWOON to the sky. The Stark series is one I will gladly devour FOREVER! Each story is unequivocally CONSUMING. Each story OWNS every ounce of me. Each story makes me closer to this family than I’ll ever be to any other in books. Each story in the Stark saga is PHENOMENAL. The Stark series stands on a pedestal, one of power and passion, PURE PERFECTION in words.

The latest Stark series novella, Hold Me, is FLAWLESS and PHENOMENAL!!! This story spotlights Nikki and Damien’s family life and struggles they must overcome. Hold Me is desire meets devotion in one tender tale of timeless love. Oh did I LOVE THEE!!!

He’s strength and intelligence, commanding and tender. He’s honorable and strong, fierce and loyal. And he loves me.

Nikki and Damien are made for each other, so attuned that they are one. One heart. One soul. One perfect union. One perfect romance.

“Tonight you’re all mine, all ways, all night.”

Oh Damien! Such a powerful, passionate, and penetrating man who is sexy as sin and as sweet as pie, Damien is an alpha I so ADORE! I BURNED for him and this book!!!

There is no greater love story than that of Damien and Nikki Stark. Their devotion is UNPARALLELED and EVERLASTING…true love at its finest. Damien and Nikki are, hands down, one of my all-time favorite romance couples!!! I LOVE them sooo much!

“How did you know I was behind you?”

“Sweetheart, haven’t you learned by now? You’re part of me. How could I ever lose sight of you?”

These ENDEARING words MELTED ME!!! I could not stop SWOONING. Sweet, sensual, and seductive, Hold Me is a forever love story that left me breathless and melting for more…so much MORE. A FOREVER HIGH. Hold Me is MAGICAL, so dreamy and utterly divine where you’re guaranteed to float to Cloud Nine.
Hold Me…yes this HEARTWARMING story did. Hold Me held my heart, and it is still holding it where it will likely remain. I’m content to stay wrapped up in this heart-stopping sexy and soul-swooning series, my glorious nirvana. This fairytale full of feels will always be my forever.

I’m embedded in this Stark family created by the incredible Julie Kenner, characters that are so raw they feel real and are a part of me. To reconnect with a family of characters I’ve known for over three years is PURE BOOK BLISS that only gets BETTER. These books make me so HEADY, my heart so FULL OF LOVE for this spellbinding Stark saga. The Starks are my HAPPY PLACE, and this smoldering and sweet sigh of a series will always be HOME.❤️

💋💋💋💋💋 5 ‘hold me forever’ kisses

My life with Damien has never been fuller. Every day is a miracle, and every night I lose myself in the oasis of his arms.

But there are new challenges, too. Our families. Our careers. And new responsibilities that test us with unrelenting, unexpected trials.
I know we will survive—we have to. Because I cannot live without Damien by my side. But sometimes the darkness seems overwhelming, and I am terrified that the day will come when Damien cannot bring the light. And I will have to find the strength inside myself to find my way back into his arms.

I already know that Damien is running later than I am, because he’d called while I was stuck in traffic. Now I dismiss Bree for the night, then go peek in on both my girls. I want to wake them, to cuddle them close, but I let them sleep, contenting myself with watching the steady rise and fall of their little chests.

Then I take a quick shower, change into yoga pants and a T-shirt, and stretch out on our lovely iron bed, surrounded by paperwork.

That’s where I am when Damien finds me—although I’m asleep instead of busily working.

“Hey,” he says, brushing a kiss on my shoulder. “Long day?”

As I claw my way back to consciousness, he gathers my papers and sets them on the bedside table. There’s a glass of wine, too, and he hands it to me. I try to avoid alcohol since I’m breastfeeding, but I also did the research and know that a little bit isn’t a problem so long as I wait to pump or feed Anne.

“The longest,” I say, then take a grateful sip. I lean sideways against him, my back supported by the pile of pillows that rest against the wall. I give him the full rundown, the highlight of which is Eric’s surprising departure.

“You can handle continued growth,” he says, his loyalty giving me a nice warm boost of confidence. “But you’re also well-positioned to simply hold the line if that’s what you want to do. Even to downsize if it works out that way.”

I push away from him, frowning as my chest tightens uncomfortably. “What?”

“I’m just saying that you don’t have to go back to work full-throttle.”

I sit up straight. “Excuse me? Why? Because you can support us?”

“I can support us. But what I’m—”

“So I’m supposed to feel guilty about wanting to work just because you bring in billions?” Dammit, he knows how important my job is to me. How hard I’ve worked to build my business on my own, not relying on money that comes from Stark International.

He stares at me like someone might stare at a wild hyena. “That’s not what I’m saying at all.”

Review – Personal Delivery by Ainsley Booth

Personal Delivery cover

Review graphic

I was never more happy to open a newsletter every week! Knowing that Jake would be there waiting, when Ainsley would annouce in her group that more of Jake would be coming I would refresh my email until there he was. I absolutely loved everything Jake and Jana!

Jana is an illustrator with a thriving business. She has the perk of being able to work from home and she has her adorable cats to keep her company. Still her love life is all but nonexistent. That is until the delivery man makes his way into her life. Who would have thought getting crazy packages from her well meaning friends would change her life forever?

Jake is a billionaire in disguise. He’s not just a SwiftEx delivery man dropping off packages on a route with the beautiful, eccentric artist as one of his routine stops. Oh no… Jake has a secret that can change everything. He never expected to fall for Jana and her horde of cats but he does – and he falls hard. But he’s afraid that his secrets will change everything.

This was so fun! Just the best fun to read. Jana is feisty and eccentric. Jake is swoonworthy and just… yummy. Together these two kept me in stitches and running for a fan to cool off. The chemistry between these two kept me happily returning each week for more. It’s always fantastic to see the quirky girl get the supremely hot guy and on the icing on the cake? He’s a billionaire! I just loved this! Absolutely loved this book! Sweet but steamy… romcom at its best. Great job, Ainsley!

She has a crush on the delivery guy. He has a billion-dollar secret.

I recognize the sound of his truck turning off in front of my building.
Not only do I recognize it, but my pulse picks up and I get all hot and bothered. Then I hear the low growl cutting out, followed by the clank of metal as he pulls up the back door to grab my package….
Grab my package?
That sounds so dirty.
Which is probably appropriate given some of the fantasies I’ve had about him.
My obsession with the new, mysterious delivery driver is crazy. Intense. Distracting.
The last thing I need is to be crushing on a six-foot-something distraction with a dirty grin.
But my friends have other plans.
