Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

”Time passes by you like a bullet … Don’t doubt yourself, don’t second-guess, don’t let fear hold you back, don’t be lazy, and don’t base your decisions on how happy it will make others. Just go for it, okay?”

For three years, I’ve quietly hoarded Pen Douglas’ books on my kindle, books remaining in the dark, intending to read them, and, regrettably, never doing so UNTIL NOW. Until I decided to finally to bring Penelope Douglas’ words to the light. Until I picked up Birthday Girl and COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. Until I realized how the power of Penelope Douglas’ words pulled me in—line by line and feel by feel—where they tugged my heart and splashed my soul across the pages. Until I finally realized what I’ve been missing.

BIRTHDAY GIRL… JUST WOW, WOW, WOW! Birthday Girl is the most sumptuous of slow burns, A BURNING INTENSITY felt everywhere! It’s a HEADY HIT of FORBIDDEN PLEASURE that pierces straight to the core. MY BODY TINGLED at the tension that taunted me, holding me in its grasp, tension so thick you could cut it with a knife. I ATE UP that angst, every last delicious drop.

Birthday Girl Teaser

Fear and longing, turmoil and need.

We want it, but we know we shouldn’t.

I loved the slow-burning plot that was UTTERLY ENGAGING and paced to perfection. The characters have charisma in spades and were so compelling—drawing me into their story deeply—that I fell hard for them. This melt-worthy hero OWNED me. Pike is a hot god with a heart of gold. So sexy and all alpha. Just YES! Jordan is the perfect pairing with Pike, a beauty who is wise and witty. Their chemistry was palpable and the build-up of their romance had me on edge! I was almost UNGLUED. OH SO GOOD!

”I want you to want me.”

Birthday Girl Teaser 2

Heart-stopping sexy meets pulse-pounding pleasure in a tale that is TABOO TO THE MAX. Birthday Girl is one SCORCHING HOT HIGH!
This forbidden love story is a SLOW SEDUCTION in words. Oh was I wholeheartedly seduced! Hook. Line. Sinker. Penelope Douglas takes you on a tantalizingly taboo, thriller of a ride that bleeds angst and renders you breathless where you’re begging for more Birthday Girl. I was so DRUNK ON BIRTHDAY GIRL. I LOVED EVERYTHING about Birthday Girl, a BANG-UP BOOK! So much LOVE. I. NEED. MORE!

”If I know you want it, too, how will I be able to resist you?”

JORDAN

He took me in when I had nowhere else to go.

He doesn’t use me, hurt me, or forget about me. He doesn’t treat me like I’m nothing, take me for granted, or make me feel unsafe.

He remembers me, laughs with me, and looks at me. He listens to me, protects me, and sees me. I can feel his eyes on me over the breakfast table, and my heart pumps so hard when I hear him pull in the driveway after work.

I have to stop this. It can’t happen.

My sister once told me there are no good men, and if you find one, he’s probably unavailable.

Only Pike Lawson isn’t the unavailable one.

I am.

PIKE

I took her in, because I thought I was helping.

She’d cook a few meals and clean up a little. It was an easy arrangement.

As the days go by, though, it’s becoming anything but easy. I have to stop my mind from drifting to her and stop holding my breath every time I bump into her in the house. I can’t touch her, and I shouldn’t want to.

The more I find my path crossing hers, though, the more she’s becoming a part of me.

But we’re not free to give into this. She’s nineteen, and I’m thirty-eight.

And her boyfriend’s father.

Unfortunately, they both just moved into my house.

*BIRTHDAY GIRL is a stand-alone, contemporary romance suitable for ages 18+.

Pike and Jordan get back late from mudding and are hosing off in the backyard.

JORDAN

I drop the hose to my side and drag the fingers of my left hand down his abs, my heart pounding so hard it hurts. They tighten as my nails slide across the muscles, and I’m so afraid to look at him.

This is wrong. I know it’s wrong.

But God, he feels good. I can feel his eyes on me, and every thread of my bra is chafing my skin, and I just want to be bare right now. I want him to see me.

I close my eyes. Oh, God.

“Jordan…” He grasps my hand, and I can hear him breathing hard.

I nod, opening my eyes but still unable to meet his. “I know,” I breathe out. “I’m sorry.”

I’m parched, my eyes sting with tears and I don’t know why, and there’s a need between my thighs that is almost painful.

Slowly, he tips my chin up. I finally raise my gaze, but he’s not looking at me, either. His eyes are cast down, and his brow is pinched in pain. “You’re just out of sorts,” he says quietly. “You miss Cole, and I just happen to be here. It’s okay.”

I remain still, my fingers still on his stomach and his hand still on my chin. His chest moves up and down, and for a moment, I think I’m going to turn tail and run. He’s making excuses for me. An easy one to hide behind. It would make sense I’m feeling lost and in need of someone else to escape into.

But what’s his excuse. I know he looks at me. I know he does it when he thinks I don’t see it, but I do.

My eyes sting, filling with tears. “That’s not why I was apologizing,” I tell him.

I raise my eyes, meeting his, and while I’m afraid, I have to dive. I can’t hold back.

“I’m sorry, because,” I whisper shakily, “this isn’t the first time I wanted you to touch me.”

And his gaze freezes on me.

He holds my eyes, unmoving except for the rise and fall of his chest, and I have no idea what’s going through his head right now, but I don’t think I’m sorry. No more excuses that this is about me being distraught over Cole.

The attraction was already there.

He slowly lets his fingers fall from my chin, both of his hands balling into fists, and he clenches his jaw, suddenly looking angry.

On reflex, I take a step back, but I don’t get any farther. Grabbing my waist, he hauls me into him, snaking an arm round me and gripping my jaw in his hand between his thumb and four fingers. I gasp, loving the feeling of his body hard against mine but scared, too, because he looks so mad.

“No,” he growls, baring his teeth and looking at me with fury in his eyes. “Do you understand? It’s not happening. You’re not getting that from me.”

Tears fills my eyes, and I can barely see him anymore as my body shakes with a silent sob.

His arm is like steel around me, and I can feel the heat of his rage coming off his skin.

He shakes me. “You wanna get laid, then you go hunt somewhere else.”

I suck in air and twist away from him, pushing his body away.

He’s right. What am I doing? Why would I do that? I feel so stupid, and I crouch down, quickly gathering up my shirt and shoes.

But I wasn’t imagining it, was I? There was something between us, and it was coming from him as much as from me. Did I just see what I wanted to see?

I want to scream. Tears stream down my face, and he still just stands there, glaring at me.

“Go to your room,” he orders.

I break out in a laugh, the bitter sound dripping with disbelief. “Go fuck yourself!” I stand up, hardening my voice. “I’ll find another bed tonight, thank you. Anyone will do for a slut like me, right?”

I whip around and run for the back door, but he grabs the inside of my elbow and hauls me back into the wall of his chest. I drop my shirt and shoes, and he forces us forward into the wall of the house. I shoot out my hands, crashing into the siding.

Jesus.

I shake, sucking in short, shallow breaths as my heart races and my blood runs hot under my skin.

What the…

He reaches around, taking my face in his hand and his hot breath in my ear. “Don’t threaten me with shit like that. If you want to act like a brat, then maybe you should get grounded like one, huh?”

I almost laugh through the tears drying on my face. “By all means,” I taunt. “I’m dying to see how you try to take control of me. You can’t even get Cole to do his chores, and when was the last time a woman got hot in your bed? You’re not even a man.”

He growls and slams his palm into the house in front of me.

I jump.

And the next thing I know, his hand is in my hair, and my head is being twisted to the side as his lips crash down on mine.

REVIEW – Needing Him by Kennedy Fox

Needing Him by Kennedy Fox

I just read my FAVE Kennedy Fox book so far!!!!

I legitimately LOVED everything about this story. It has super hot, intense chemistry. EPIC enemies to lovers, angsty feels and super sweet & swoony butterfly inducing moments!

Evan & Emily are INCREDIBLE. Seriously people the TENSION between these two is OFF THE CHAIN. The whole enemies to lovers vibe in Needing Him is one of the best I’ve read! Honestly Evan is an arse. But I LOVED HIM! He has that alpha dominance to him too that will make you sizzle inside. The connection with Emily is instant, but I’m not talking instalove, I mean just an intense connection that shoots from the pages and takes control of everything inside you. I can’t stop thinking about them and loving them and just wanting more!

These Bishop Brothers are TO DIE FOR. I love reading books within a series that layers everything together. Kennedy Fox are building a world here that I just LOVE to be in. The side characters and additional cast really add definition to this book and ultimately UP the story by 100%. All of it works insanely well. Each book is a standalone but for the full reading experience read in order. I promise, you won’t regret it!!!

Introducing book 2 in the Bishop Brothers series! A steamy new southern romance series by USA Today Bestselling author duo, Kennedy Fox!

Evan Bishop is your typical hotshot doctor.
Hardass, brooding, and all business.

Instead of working on the family ranch, Evan broke the mold and became an ER doctor.
He’s good with his hands—in more ways than one—smart as a whip and is the definition of God’s gift to women. Being a gentleman is in his Southern roots, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t flawed. Exclusive dating has never been a top priority and his tragic past makes him stay at arm’s length. Deciding to let loose for a wild night, he takes a page from the Bishop brother’s relationship book and hooks up with a mysterious girl he’ll never have to see again, which is perfect for this self-proclaimed bachelor.

Emily Bell is a city girl through and through but is determined to get away from her family and past. All she wants is a fresh start and to make a name for herself in the medical field. No random hookups and no dating coworkers—that’s her new motto after being burned time and again. When she agrees to attend a wedding as a plus-one, she’s soon ditched and left to drink solo—but not for long. Mr. Suit is the ultimate temptation with his Southern charm, messy blond hair, and irresistible sex appeal. Everything about him screams bad news, but he makes her reconsider her rules just for one night.

After all, some rules are made to be broken.

They want the same thing—one night of passion then they’ll go their separate ways. No cuddling afterward. No next day phone calls. No awkward goodbyes. Too bad the universe has other plans—one that’ll be obvious when they report to work on Monday morning.

*A contemporary romance with a little Southern drama. This is book 2 in the Bishop Brothers series. Each book features a different brother and can be read as a complete standalone. HEA guaranteed!*
Not suitable for readers under 18 due to adult language and sexual content.

Review – Keeping Dominic by Alyson Reynolds

KeepingDominic_Front Cover

Crystal's review

My goodness! Keeping Dominic is one incredible read. It’s angsty, romantic… steamy and so so sexy. It is the perfect coming of age story. Dominic Torres and Brooke Caldwell’s tale of best friends to lovers is weaved with laughter, tears, miscommunications and a love deeply rooted in a friendship that as withstood the peaks and valleys of young first love.

It doesn’t hurt that Dominic is not only this dark haired, beautiful guy with a terrific body. He also is talented, devoted and so fiercely loyal to Brooke. He supports her unconditionally and loved her almost immediately. When Brooke makes the decision to keep their relationship completely platonic, he manages to hide his feelings… until he simply can’t. Brooke may not have suspected what his true feelings for her were, she had to have some inkling of an idea. One moment between them changes everything and nothing is the same afterwards.

There were moments in this book that were simply painful and heartbreaking. There were moments that I wanted to scream and throttle these two. They put my heart through the craziest emotion filled roller coaster ride and almost caused me to throw my brand new kindle across the room. Their connection is so solid and the chemistry and steam between these two is something amazing. Talk about an alpha? Dominic has it all in spades!

Alyson wrote a story that tackles some tough issues and demonstrates her growing talent of taking us into a story filled with what every romance reader wants – to be enthralled with the characters from beginning to end and leave us sighing, smiling and desperate to have more. Best friends to lovers doesn’t get any better than this! Truly fantastic, Alyson! Well done!

No one finds their soulmate at first glance.

Dominic Torres did though. From the second he saw his best friend’s little sister, he knew she was the one for him. Fast forward three years and now she’s his best friend and she has him firmly in the friend zone. He’s convinced he’ll never have the college romance his parents had.

Until the day it almost happened.

Brooke Caldwell’s life fell apart two days after her tall, dark and handsome best friend almost kissed her. A split second of hesitation made her question her entire relationship with her best friend. You wouldn’t think that a kiss that didn’t even happen would make her question her feelings as much as it did. But all of Brooke’s friends had said he had a thing for her.

Unrequited love or a figment of her imagination?

When an argument gets out of hand, Brooke and Dom hit a breaking point that has both of them scrambling into new relationships. Even pissed off and broken, neither of them can ignore the other for long. From best friends to lovers, one night could change everything.

Review – Something So Unscripted by Natasha Madison

5 out of 5 stars

Natasha, Natasha, Natasha! Woman I felt like you strung me along on a journey where I could only hope for the best, and that ending absolutely nailed it. You left me in tears as I was holding my breath hoping that what I thought was coming actually happened.

I’ve been a huge fan of yours since book 1. That’s no secret. You continue to produce quality books that reach your heart. I admit that I was so impatient for those two to go at it like rabbits, but when they did it was explosive.
I can’t wait to see what’s next.

Zack

Finding my teammate in bed with my wife made the decision I had been fighting with for years easier.

It’s time to move on.

A fresh start and a new NHL team in a big city. Most importantly, it’s my son Jack’s best shot.

It would be both of our best shots.

Denise

After a bad childhood, I made sure I would succeed, so I lived for my job.

The problem is I die a little with each patient I lose. It’s part of my career at Hudson Children’s Oncology Hospital, but it doesn’t make the sting of loss any easier.

Seeking anything other than a life saved isn’t on my agenda until a NHL player walks into my hospital with his son.

We’re officially off script the moment we meet.

If this love is anything, it’s unscripted.

“Zack.” I hear her voice and just look at my wife. The woman who said she would love me in good times and in bad yet is currently holding a sheet to cover her naked body. The four-carat engagement with matching eternity wedding ring glistens in the light. “It’s just …” she starts to say, and I look over at the man in bed next to her. In our bed.

“It’s over.” I say the two words I swore I wouldn’t say no matter how hard it got. No matter how much I saw her push me away, no matter that I always suspected she was cheating on me. Then I look over at the man who I called a brother, the man who stood by my side on and off the ice. “You’re scum.”

“It just happened,” Colton says, getting out of the bed. At least he’s wearing boxers. His knee is still wrapped from the operation he had last month, which is why he wasn’t on the road with us, which is how I surprised them.

We were on the road for the whole week and due back tomorrow, but I hightailed it out of there to get home to my family and my son. “It just so happened you walked into my house and slept with my wife?” I ask him, and I have to wonder why I’m not more pissed, why I’m not more angry with them. “You come here and sleep with my wife with my son under the same roof.”

“Zack,” my wife says, and I look over at her again. Tears are rolling down her cheeks, her perfectly made up face now streaked with the black mascara she always wears. “Please let’s …”

I shake my head, putting my hands in my pockets. “Let’s what? Let’s talk about this?” I throw my head back and laugh. “Let’s talk about the fact that our son is in his room dying. Let’s talk about the fact that instead of helping him, you’re just helping yourself. Let’s talk about the fucking fact that instead of being there by his side with me, you chose to escape the fucking reality that our son won’t make it to six years old.”

“No.” She shakes her head, and I know that I’ve about had it.

“I’ll give you an hour,” I tell them both. “One hour and I want you packed and at the door when I come back.”

“But—” she says.

“But nothing, Chantal. You did what you had to do for you, and now I’m doing what I need to do for our son.”

I turn and walk out of our bedroom, then down the winding staircase that leads to the big brass front doors. Once outside in the warm Arizona air, I take my phone out of my pocket and call the only person I know who has my back no matter what. My agent and best friend, Jamie.

He answers after one ring, and it doesn’t surprise me he sleeps with his phone in his hand. “What’s up?” he says, his voice sleepy since it’s four a.m. in New York.

“I want out of Arizona, make the trade. Call the powers that be; I want out,” I tell him, getting into my Range Rover.

“You can’t just demand that,” he says, and I hear sheets rustle.

“Just walked in on Colton fucking my wife, so you can bet your ass I can. Make it happen. Call New York because it’s the only place I’ll go. I don’t care if I take a pay cut.”

“That fucking scumbag,” he says. “I’ll call them now.”

“Jamie, there is a top-notch doctor who specializes in cancer in New York. Max Horton’s sister,” I tell him quietly and slowly drive out of my gate.

“I’ll make it happen,” he says softly. “I’ll let you know what they say.”

“Jamie, I’m leaving here in a week regardless of what they say,” I tell him and disconnect the call.

“One week,” I say to myself. “One fucking week.”

Review- Alpha’s Sacrifice by Nora Phoenix

5 out of 5 stars

This book was extremely unique and complicated. I’ve never read anything like it. There were so many dynamics with there being 4 main characters. They struggled their way to find their places in each other’s lives. It really was beautiful to watch it unfold.

Two alphas, one beta, and one omega. That makes for serious complications and confusion when finding out the hierarchy. It definitely takes a lot of twists and turns, and I seriously am very excited to see what’s coming our way in book 2.

Four men, brought together by fate, connected in more powerful ways than they’d ever imagined.
Lidon, the powerful alpha-cop, determined to never trust another partner—until he helps a vulnerable omega through his heat and connects with him in a way that leaves him reeling.
Enar, the alpha-doctor who dedicates his life to serving omegas who need his help. He works himself to the bone, anything to drown out his inner voices that scream at him he’s not a real alpha.
Palani, the sassy beta reporter who will do anything to save his omega lover and childhood friend, even if it means watching another man claim him.
Vieno, the omega who suffers from a medical condition that requires an alpha’s help. It was supposed to be sex, but his attraction to the alpha goes much deeper. But how can he betray his soulmate and lover Palani like this?
When Vieno’s freedom is endangered, he needs Lidon to save him. The alpha steps up, but the consequences of his choice are more far-reaching than anyone of them had foreseen.
Four men try to figure out what they are to each other amidst political unrest, investigations into corruption and fraud, a medical issue that is far bigger and more sinister than it seemed at first, and old legends that are turning out to be real.
Alpha’s Sacrifice is an MMMM mpreg gay romance and the first book in the Irresistible Omegas series. It is not a stand-alone and ends on a cliffhanger. Please note the triggers warnings in the front of the book.

When she was a little tot, Nora’s mom got a library subscription for her. That, as they say, was that, and a lifelong love for books was born. Nora never stopped reading and doesn’t exaggerate when she says she devours books, rather than plain reads them. She started writing stories as soon as she could hold a pen, and wrote her first full book as a teen (on a typewriter!). It took her waaaay too long to follow her dream to become a romance author.

Nora writes M/M romance, because hello, sexy boys, and likes her men flawed, strong, and a tad broken. She appreciates a little kink, but insists on a happy ever after.

Review – This Time Around by Stacey Lynn

5 out of 5 stars

Stacey Lynn doesn’t just write books, she leaves an imprint on your heart! ❤❤ I knew this would be a great read, but was once again blown away by the depth of emotion she can make you feel with her words.

You will feel heartbreak and sadness. You will watch two souls from two different worlds slowly mend each others hearts after the devastation that each are dealing with. This book is a slow burn. We get to watch the characters truly break down each other’s walls and form a beautiful friendship. They never thought that friendship would turn to an all consuming love.

Stacey proves time and time again why she is one of my favorite go to authors, but she has even outdone herself with this one. I must now go and enjoy my book hangover.

“What are you doing here?” I wrapped the robe around my waist, tightened the knot.

Goddamn it! He wasn’t supposed to see this.

“Couldn’t sleep?”

That was what he asked. The urge to scream at him, to unleash holy terror for putting the idea into my head and making me feel, clawed at my throat. “No. Why are you in my room?”

“Because I couldn’t sleep on the couch thinking of you and then I started hearing all this racket like the ceiling was going to cave in on my head and thought I should come check on you.”

My brain must have malfunctioned. I must have skipped some words, rearranged them in the wrong order. He didn’t say what it sounded like.

“What?”

He pinned me with a look. It stole the breath from my lungs. “You heard me.”

Shit.

“Yeah, shit.”

I slammed my mouth closed. If words were slipping out, when I didn’t mean them to, it was best to be quiet.

“Come out of the closet, Rebecca.”

He held out his hand. I ignored it.

I couldn’t breathe or move or focus.

He was standing outside my closet, and he was naked.

Not naked, naked. Mostly naked. He’d taken off the pants and shirt I’d given him and all he had on was a pair of black boxer briefs.

Skin-tight boxer briefs.

That showed every outline of him. And there was a lot of him to see.

My eyes darted to the side of the closet I’d swiped clean. Tomorrow, I’d bleach my eyes to erase that visual.

“Rebecca.”

“I’m fine here.”

He laughed low and slow, beautiful and over too quickly. I was not moving.

“You don’t come out, I’m coming in there to get you.”

No way in hell was he touching me. Not dressed like that.

I stepped over the bucket of shoes at my feet and stepped into the room. He moved back, giving me space and crossed his arms over his chest.

It hid nothing. I couldn’t find a place to focus on.

I was losing my mind. It had to be sleep deprivation. I looked to my bed and ruffled covers which made me think of…

Nope. Not going there. I stared at the wall. It was cream and void of any decorations or photos. It was safe.

Finally, I breathed. He stood there, watching me, I felt it like I felt my skin crawling from his inspection.

“Want to talk about this?” he asked.

Nope. I didn’t. I didn’t want to say a single word to Cooper Hawke. The man in underwear in my bedroom.

I crossed my arms over my stomach. Uncrossed them. “No.” My hands went to my hair and I untangled my hair tie, shoving my hands back into my hair and re-fixing the messy knot. “I don’t want to talk about it.”

“I might be able to help, you know. It’s not like I haven’t stood in a closet, wanting to do the exact same thing you’ve just done.”

“You can’t help me.”

He stepped closer. I shuffled back. He moved again. I retreated. He was getting closer when he needed to move back.

“Cooper,” I said, “Please. I need to be alone.”

“I thought we were friends.”

“What?” My gaze jumped to him, fell. Tight, tanned skin and black boxer briefs. A trail of hair from his bellybutton that disappeared beneath those briefs burned into my retinas. I squeezed my eyes closed. A futile attempt to erase that pretty, pretty sight.

“I thought we were friends,” he repeated.

I forced my eyes open and choked out, “We are.”

His full lips quirked into a grin. I knew that look. He had it downstairs. I did not like that look. Not one little bit. “Friends help each other, don’t they?”

“Friends respect what the other person wants and needs.”

I scooted away from him again and bumped into the wall next to my closet.

He took one more step toward me. Slowly. Like he’d done downstairs, allowing me time to move away, allowing me time to see his intention. My head screamed to move out of the way while my body shouted stay right where you are.

My body sucked.

He was in front of me, not touching me. Far enough away where he was in no danger of touching me.

I still wanted him to touch me.

His hand raised and he settled it on the wall above my shoulder. And I could smell him.

“Cooper. Why are you here?”

He didn’t even blink. “Because I want to help you.”

“You can’t.”

“I can try.”

Review – Blackstone by JD Hollyfield

Blackstone1

Crystal's review

The premise of this series really stuck out to me – Four Fathers. Each with their own story to tell but their stories are also interconnected. Each story gives the reader a different area of romance to explore: contemporary, erotic, taboo and dark. The blurbs drew me in and I was so amped to read Blackstone. I have never read anything by JD Hollyfield or any of the other authors.

Blackstone was just amazing. It was a quick read but I fell into immediately. Trevor Blackstone is one of the four owners of Four Fathers Freight. He’s a mathematical genius and that makes him quirky, serious and complex. His past has defined him and it one of misunderstandings, loss and abandonment. He finds solace in the ocean… and being in control. All of that is shattered when a spitfire of a woman moves in next door for the summer. But from the first look, from the first meeting, Lucy isn’t like anyone that Trevor has ever known. She’s funny, strong, observant and she just gets him. She’s peace in the violent storm of numbers, equations and formulas.

Like Trevor, Lucy has her own past filled with things that haunt her. Bad decisions, bad relationships, loss of confidence. Lossing her beloved grandmother was the catalyst for change and for the summer she’s going to take her grandmother’s advice and . She never expected Trevor, his affection, his attention. Weird but so very sexy, he turns her world upside down.

Oh, this was just SO GOOD. The story made me itch for more of Lucy and Trevor’s story. There were a few unanswered questions when I got to the last page and I hope that the next three books will have the answers. I laughed all the way through this read and Trevor is definitely not like any other hero I have ever read. Kudos to Lucy, though. She made that man earn her.

One fabulous first look and a great start to an awesome series! Great job, Jessica!

I am meticulous. Structured. A single father.
I obsess over things and crave control.
And when a hot, feisty little woman throws a wrench in my carefully laid out plans, I lose my mind.
My every thought revolves around making her bend to my will—until they become less about her doing things my way and more about just her.
My name is Trevor Blackstone.
I am an obsessive, complicated, demanding man.
People may not understand me, but it doesn’t stop them from wanting me.

Being Sunday, I decide to take a break from memory lane. I snatch a worn historical romance paperback from Gran’s bookshelf and slide into my brand new white bikini. Grabbing my towel and a Mike’s Hard Lemonade from the fridge, I head out back.

The sun feels amazing on my skin. I inhale the breeze, tasting the salt of the ocean on my tongue. I drop my towel on the lawn chair and get comfortable. My shades are down, and my book is ready to be dominated.

“This is nice,” I hum to myself, lifting my lemonade and taking a nice sip.

And out it all repels as I spit and choke on it.

Jeeeesus Christ.”

I knock my sunglasses halfway down my nose as my eyes threaten to fall out of their sockets. Where in holy heavens did he come from? The half-naked man leaning on his balcony across the way. My tongue about falls out of my mouth. Is that Numbers? And holy shit, when did he get so much muscle? I’d call him fit, but that’s not fit. That’s like, “Hi, I eat muscle for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and now I’m just all muscle.”

I wipe at my chin, unsure whether it’s lemonade splatter or I’m drooling. I’m probably drooling. I wasn’t paying attention to much of him yesterday when he was acting all crazy on my front step. I just wanted him gone. To be honest, while he was babbling, I was trying to dig in the back of my brain for my old high school karate moves in case he tried something on me. Looking at him now, I wish he had.

He lifts his hand, threading his large hand through his hair and dragging his fingers down his hard chest covered in a dusting of hair. “Oh boy, where’s that hand going?” I mumble, licking my lips. Oh yeah. I see where this is going. Yep, oh yeah… Did I just moan?

Oh, hell yeah I did, but it’s so worth it. His hand dips down into his board shorts and he adjusts himself. Feel free to pull them down. Show us the goods, I think, mentally visualizing just how big his junk is. He’s a pretty big guy. Big hands. Theory says, and all.

Watching him fondle himself in all his hot glory, my curiosity piques. How old is he really? He sure had a reason to take offense by my calling him old. He certainly doesn’t look old. He surely looks a zillion times hotter than Jimmy, and he was only twenty-eight. I’m not an age wizard, but if I had to guess, I’d say late thirties, early forties. Definitely a bit out of my age range. Why? No idea. No real reason screaming stay away. Well, besides the major one being he wants to evict me, tear down my Gran’s life of memories, and probably build a gym in its place.

Yeah, that’s a good enough reason.

It also reminds me it’s the guys who look appealing on the outside that usually turn out to be dicks on the inside.

Review – Rebel Heir by Penelope Ward & Vi Keeland

Rebel Heir by Penelope Ward & Vi Keeland

I NEED MORE THAN 5 STARS DAMMIT!!!!!

Smoking hot chemistry – check.

Two insanely, lovable characters – check.

Solid, flawless writing – check.

Intense, heart pounding story – check.

Perfection in a book – CHECK CHECK CHECK!

20% was all it took for me to fall head over heels with this book. 20% in for me and I never wanted it to end. I honestly think I’ve found my new favourite Ward & Keeland book. I honestly think I love a Ward & Keeland hero more than Graham *gasps*. Yes I said it and I don’t regret it. Rush is PHENOMENAL! I’ve fallen head over heels in love with him. I just CANNOT EXPLAIN him well enough to fully tell you how incredible he is!

Rebel Heir is one of those books that just takes you away. Away from the world and all the things happening around you. Vi & Penelope have a way with their writing that is indescribable. They catapult you INTO the story, they make you a part of it and everything seems so real. Not many authors have this ability at all, in my opinion. But Vi & Penelope nail it every time.

As this is the first of a duet it ends with a SHOCKER. A shock-er! But the angst and the build up and the overall feel is so, so WORTH IT! I actually don’t want to tell you ANYTHING ELSE about this book because it will spoil it. You just cannot understand how amazing it is until you READ IT. And you MUST!

Rebel Heir is a sweet and hella sexy novel that builds this duet perfectly. The characters are insanely charismatic. The story is angsty and super addictive. I just love EVERYTHING about it!!

From New York Times Bestselling authors Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward, comes the first book in a new, sexy duet.

How to kick off a great summer in the Hamptons:

Snag a gorgeous rental on the beach. Check.

Get a job at a trendy summer haunt. Check.

How to screw up a great summer in the Hamptons:

Fall for the one guy with a dark leather jacket, scruff on his face, and intense eyes that doesn’t fit in with the rest of the tony looking crowd. A guy you can’t have when you’ll be leaving at the end of the season.

Check. Check. Check.

I should add—especially when the guy is your sexy, tattooed God of a boss.

Especially when he not only owns your place of employment but inherited half of the town.

Especially when he’s mean to you.

Or so I thought.

Until one night when he demanded I get in his car so he could drive me home because he didn’t want me walking in the dark.

That was sort of how it all started with Rush.

And then little by little, some of the walls of this hardass man started to come down.

I never expected that the two of us, seemingly opposites from the outside, would grow so close.

I wasn’t supposed to fall for the rebel heir, especially when he made it clear he didn’t want to cross the line with me.

As the temperature turned cooler, the nights became hotter. My summer became a lot more interesting—and complicated.

All good things must come to an end, right?

Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

Rebel Heir is the first book in the Rush Series Duet. Book Two, Rebel Heart, will release six weeks later on May, 22, 2018.

REBEL HEIR is easy Penelope Ward & Vi Keeland best book yet! I URGE YOU to click this, RIGHT NOWWWWW!!!!!

6 out of 5 stars

6 stars

OMFG! I’m sitting here trying to write this review through teary eyes and wet cheeks. There is a reason Marni Mann is one of my absolute favorite authors, and this book just solidified it even more.

I can’t really go into the story because it’s an experience you deserve to have without it being ruinded, so I’m going to tell you about the emotional roller coaster ride that I just went on for the last 4 hours. Yes, 4 hours straight. Once I picked up this book, I wasn’t putting it down for NOTHING! I literally sat in my car for 2 hours while my son had baseball practice because I couldn’t part with it. It was too cold to read outside. I regret nothing.

This book shows how beautifully broken hearts can try do hard to deny things, but in the end fate wins! These two did not have it easy, and what they’ve gone through makes you fall in love with them even more. The chemistry between these two was OFF THE CHARTS SMOKING HOT!!! But the obstacles they conquered is what made this story all that and more.

I highly recommend you read this book. You can certainly read it a standalone but I highly recommend you read Signed. It lets you know all the characters better. Bravo Marni. I bow down to you!

My client’s younger sister is off-f***ing-limits.

Getting my first big client signed to the NFL was the second best moment of my life. Escorting his sister back to her hotel was the first. Imagining what she would feel like, look like, taste like—none of it was as good as the real thing.

If her brother found out, it would destroy my career, so I ended things between us.

Eight years later, the girl who got away still owns me.

First, I’ll make her forgive me, and then I’m going to make her mine.

He’s owned my body for far too long.

It’s been years since he touched me, and my skin still remembers every brush, stroke, and thrust. I want to forget how good it felt. Almost as much as I want to do it again.

We can’t finish what we started until I make my confession.

I have a secret—one that wasn’t mine to keep.

Before he can love me, he’ll have to find some way to forgive me.

Excerpt:

When my hand wasn’t on the gearshift, it was on her thigh. Her skin was hot. Tight. But it didn’t give me the heat I was after, so I went to search for it, dragging my fingers higher on her leg. My thumb then dipped below the hem of her dress, tracing a small pattern over her flesh.

“Samantha, I need you to do something for me.”

She took a breath that ended with the softest moan. “Okay.”

“I need you to shift when I tell you to.”

“Why?”

“Because I need one hand on the steering wheel while the other is inside your cunt.”

“Jack…”

“Shift into third.”

She quickly reached across my arm, grabbing the gearstick and moving it like I’d asked her to.

My fingers climbed several inches higher, feeling the space widen as she spread her legs apart. “Now, go to second.” As I rose to the outside of her pussy, I expected to feel her panties.

There was nothing.

Just a bare pussy and a clit that needed me to rub it.

“Jesus,” I hissed. “Neutral. Shift right now.”

We were coming to a stop at the red light. Before the car completely slowed, my pointer finger traced around her entrance to wet the tip, and I slid right in.

“Oh my God,” she groaned. “Your hands.”

She’d missed them.

They’d missed her.

And she was about to get a hell of a lot more.

Review- Nobody’s Prince Charming by Aimee Nicole Walker

5 out of 5 stars

Aimee every single time I pick up one of your books, I’m transported to a different world
A world where happiness and bliss is all you feel. This book made laugh. It made me cry. It made my heart flutter. Most of all it made me feel whole.

Wren was definitely a character I knew I would hold close to my heart. What can I say, I love damaged people. Watching him navigate his way through unknown territory was a beautiful thing. I loved watching his journey unfold.

Dare, oh Dare. How can you not love him. He is that ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. He had this bright light about him that made everyone smile. I loved watching him worm his way into Wren’s heart (and his pants 😝).

Going back to Blissville is always a special trip down memory lane, getting to see all our beloved characters from previous books. I can’t wait for the next masterpiece that you send my way.

Fire and ice. Oil and water. Vodka and decisions. That’s what Darren McCoy and Wren Davison are: two opposites that shouldn’t mix well. Dare believes in fairy tales, true love, and happily ever after. Wren believes in fast cars, freedom, and no-strings sex. What can these two men possibly have in common? A magnetic pull strong enough to obliterate logic and reason.

For more than a year, Dare and Wren have worked together at the Curl Up and Dye Salon. Dare has pursued the mysterious, brooding man, and Wren has resisted his provocative charm. Then one day, something happens that allows the men to see each other in a new light. Wren learns that Dare hides a heavy heart behind his brilliant smile. Dare realizes that beneath Wren’s gruff exterior beats the heart of a prince.

Passions ignite once the men stop fighting their attraction, but will it be enough to overcome their differences? Is Wren the prince that Dare is looking for? Can Dare teach Wren that true love does exist?

Nobody’s Prince charming is a modern-day fairy tale where some princes ride Harleys, and castle walls are built to scale. It is the third book in the Road to Blissville series but can be read as a standalone book. This book contains sexually explicit material and is intended for adults eighteen and over.

We didn’t say anything on our way up to Dare’s room because neither of us wanted to risk waking Ralph. We were lucky that we didn’t get caught when we pulled that stunt in the laundry room. Okay, the stunt that I pulled. I knew that Ralph liked me, and I even suspected he knew that his grandson had become very important to me, but that didn’t give me the right to be disrespectful in his home. It wasn’t because we were gay either. I would’ve felt the same if we were a straight couple sneaking up to… Couple? I rolled the word around in my head a few times, expecting a negative thought to refute its validity but none came. I discovered I liked the way the word felt, sounded, and even tasted on my tongue. Just because I didn’t speak it out loud didn’t mean it was less true.

When we got to Dare’s room, we silently undressed each other in between soft kisses in the muted light from the lamp on the bedside table. The mood between us was different like we both had realized something important that day: what we shared was poignant and real. There was a confidence in Dare’s hands when he touched me and in his eyes when he looked at me. Did he see and feel the same changes in me?

Even my arousal was different. Rather than the all-consuming fire, it was a slow-burning flame that never seemed to diminish or burn out. It vibrated through me like normal, but new emotions joined the passion: tenderness and a desire for something I didn’t deserve and shouldn’t want. I’d been stingy with my heart for my entire life, giving it only to my mom who had died and a boy who was nearly rejected by his family for loving me. My mom didn’t choose to willingly leave me, but the boy did. I didn’t blame him, but it still hurt, especially when our breakup was only a few months after my mom’s death. I had no one in the world I could count on until I met Jimmy and Danny. I sure as hell couldn’t count on Falcon. Just thinking about him brought on a fresh wave of exhaustion, which killed my arousal.

Dare didn’t seem to mind. He pulled back the sheets and blankets then gestured for me to climb inside. He joined me after I got situated then turned off the light before he rolled over and lay his head on my chest. In the dark, it was easier to find the words that I couldn’t speak to anyone else. Hell, Jimmy and Danny didn’t even know that Falcon was my sperm donor, yet here I was about to tell Dare everything.

“Wren,” he said softly in the darkness. “You don’t have to tell me anything if you don’t want to, okay? If you do want to talk, I promise you that nothing you say will leave this room.”

“I know, Sparkles.” I trailed my hands up and down his back, finding comfort in the rhythm and already familiar feel of my fingers bumping along his spine. “You’d never betray my trust.” I knew it as certain as the sun would rise in the east. No matter what happened between us, Dare would keep my confidence. “Once upon a time,” I began to lighten the mood. I expected Dare to snort, but he giggled. “What?”

“That’s a phrase I use frequently in my head. I tend to work everyday events into fairy tales.”

“Yeah? Who am I?” I asked.

“Prince Charming, duh. Only with longer hair, biker boots, and a beefier body. My prince rides a Harley instead of a horse.”

“Sparkles, I’m nobody’s Prince Charming.”

“You don’t get to decide that,” he said in a singsong voice. “I decide who my Prince Charming is and no one else.”

I ignored the fluttering in my stomach and dug deep for a gruff response. “Fine, but don’t say that I didn’t warn you.”

“Once upon a time…” Dare prompted.

I am a wife and mother to three kids, three dogs, and a cat. When I’m not dreaming up stories, I like to lose myself in a good book, cook or bake. I’m a girly tomboy who paints her fingernails while watching sports and yelling at the referees. I will always choose the book over the movie. I believe in happily-ever- after. Love inspires everything that I do. Music keeps me sane.
