Review – The Long Way Home by Jasinda Wilder

It isn’t often that I am so stunned by a book that I have trouble writing a review to honestly convey what I am feeling. It isn’t often that I find a story that makes me feel everything that characters know to be true from the top of their heads to the bottom of their feet. This story of love, profound loss and unexplainable hatred moved me to anguished tears, soul deep grief and just a heartbreak that took my breath away.

How do you comprehend a pain that so engulfs your very soul that the will to go on is simply impossible to embrace? When everything is dark and the world that you knew ends with the flat line of a heart monitor? How do you face the emptiness and hysteria right on the edge of your vision?

Christian and Ava had everything and the family, the we, the us that they were ended when Henry slips away. In a time when these two should have turned to each other, they lost each other. Grief was a terrible living breathing entity destroying a marriage and leaving behind two souls absolutely ravaged in its aftermath. Two people who were the best of friends, best of lovers, best of everything, find themselves separated and on opposite sides of the world. Christian returns to what he knows to find solace – the sea and his journals. Ava remains attached to what she knows to cope with her losses – the bottle. Lots of them. But separated by thousands of miles and a hurt as wide as the ocean, these two are bound together. They try to find each other and themselves in their words, emails and letters. But is it to late to recapture what has been lost?

This story is hauntingly beautiful. It is an emotional roller coaster that on more than one occasion I found I had to get off of, only to find myself riding once again. I felt Christian frustration, loneliness and humiliation, needing his wife but being unable to reach her. No father, no husband should lose everything in one day. As a mother I felt Ava’s unbearable pain at having to bury the child that she bore and then losing herself in the spiral of facing her grief. Her anger was real, her hatred a constant companion. I understood it and just like Ava, I embraced it. No mother should feel this. No wife should feel what she felt.

I’m still speechless and grasping for words to explain how much this book made me feel. What I am still feeling. This book left me reeling, tearful, and anxious for more Ava and Christian. More of their story… more of their chance at healing. Incredible read and without a doubt one of 2017’s finest books. Absolutely incredible, Jasinda. So well done! All the stars!

Review – Summer Love by J. Lum

It is unbelievable to me that this is Jen Lum’s debut. This novella reads so beautifully and flows so gracefully. The love story between Tobias and Casey so captivated me that I still miss these two. I still think about them and am so incredibly anxious for more words from Jen!

Tobias is such a troubled young man who finds himself at a crossroads with difficult decisions to make He’s sending the summer with his father and stepmother – people that he barely knows and that he doesn’t really want to know. All Toby knows is that the man who was supposed to love and protect him left when he needed him the most and his life was never the same. He’s hardened his heart and nothing is going to get through. And then one early summer morning, Toby meets the girl that will change his whole life.

Casey is a city girl with a dreamer’s heart. A lover of words. A refreshing change to Toby. She’s warm and carefree; flight of fancy and so beautiful to him. She changes Toby simply by being his friend and giving him her love. Still Casey knows that at the end of the summer all that she had with could be over. No one expects the summer to end the way that it does.

I could not have asked for a better introduction to Jen Lum! This story was simply sweet, written with heart and passion. First love and first heartbreak…. this made me remember just how big those first moments can be and how they can consume us, change our course and color our perspective. This was an amazing first story from a young woman who is going to be an absolute power house!

Absolutely FANTASTIC! Great job, dear friend.

Oh my goodness.

My heart is POUNDING.

My emotions are RAW.

I’m BREATHLESS.

I have NO WORDS except “WHAT THE FUDGE JUST HAPPENED?” The ending! OMG! Just, GAH! WOAH BABY, I NEED book two already.

*takes a deep breath* Okay, so This is Dangerous is BY FAR Kennedy Fox’s best opener yet. (This is book 1 of 2) This ticked all my book-worm boxes and then some. Friends to lovers is my FAVE trope and when it’s done THIS WELL, I fall in love.

In all honesty, it was inevitable that I was going to love this book, I mean, Logan has been the man that has piqued my interest through all the others, his moody, broken persona was like a red rag to a raging bull for me. But actually Kennedy Fox just went above and beyond. They played out the friends to lovers trope and another fave trope of mine really well. They made Logan IRRESISTIBLE!! Kayla is hilarious, witty, sassy and really freaking sexy, I loved her!

This is Dangerous is probably the most angsty of Kennedy’s books so far. A sizzling connection is evident from the very first page and it’s one that builds and stokes and burns hotter and hotter as you go through the pages. The touches and the stolen kisses are INTENSE. The sexy smiles and hidden glances are CAPTIVATING. The relationship that develops is ALL CONSUMING. Logan and Kayla are my FAVE couple so far. They fit together so well and their relationship was written to perfection.

As always, with this being book one of two we have secrets and mystery and so much suspense that radiates from this book making it so DAMN addictive. Kennedy Fox sure know how to entice and seduce with their writing, they grip and control their readers wholeheartedly. I actually never wanted this book to end. Each and every book they write just gets better and better.

This is Dangerous is written with sublime precision. It’s written with thought and feeling, beauty and pain, light, darkness, secrets, lies and painful truths. It’s a book that pulls the reader in so deep, takes over every emotion, takes over your heart and soul. And after that ending, my mind is reeling, my heart is pounding, my emotions are raw, my breath is stolen, but I couldn’t care less. This is Dangerous is fucking AMAZING.

Logan Knight is a real life knight in shining armor.  A detective godsend in a sleek black suit has me thinking less than secretive thoughts. Brooding and mysterious, he’s the kind of guy every girl instantly notices. Between his seductive smirk and charming good looks, it’s no wonder I can’t help the way he makes me feel whenever I’m near him.  Too bad he’s unavailable—or so he says.

He thinks I’m a do-gooder who shouldn’t get involved with a guy like him. His past is messy and relationships just add to that. He insists the timing is all wrong and he’s devoted to his career, but I don’t buy that excuse for a second. I see the way his body tenses and his jaw ticks every time another guy is around me. He just won’t admit it, but I’m more determined than ever to show him what he’s missing.

I’m a devoted animal rescuer and I’ll risk everything to save them, but when a dramatic turn of events puts both our lives at risk, I’m positive Logan will write me off for good. But when he asks for my help with a personal crisis, I know it’s my last chance to finally show him I can handle anything he throws my way—messy past and all.

He might think he has me all figured out, but I’ll prove him wrong no matter what he thinks. This game of push and pull has me running in circles. One wrong move and we could both lose.

Review – Seven by KD Robichaux

Oh, Club Alias is certainly becoming one of my favorite places in Book World right along side the Submissive Center, the Shadowlands and Luminous! Seven was an incredibly delicious read full of the best laughter, awesome pop culture references and one seriously sexy Dom. It’s always the geeky super smart ones that a girl has to be warned about, and be warned. Seth Owens sets this book on its head and the pages on fire!

Twyla Quill is as strong as she is beautiful. A chemical engineer with a promising career, she gives it all up for love. Her sister has been beaten and abused by her boyfriend and finally convinces her to leave. And leave they do – all the way across the country. Twyla has lead a sheltered life, devoting herself to her work and to her studies. She never believed that she would find herself working at a sex shop. So completely out of her element, she finds herself in a situation with… equipment she has never seen or had the opportunity to use. Enter one deliciously devious Dom and let the laughter and sexy hijinks begin!

Seth Owens is simply one the most fun characters I have ever met! He’s got a movie or tv quote for every occassion. He’s as sexy as he is boy genius. He is the brains of the operation, and he puts everyone at ease. I just plain LIKED him from the start. Add in that when Seth is Seven he is Master Seven and that only ups his swoon factor. He may be brains but don’t let that geeky exterior fool you. This man is all alpha and Twyla is his. Nothing will keep him from loving her, having her. Even when the past comes to call, Seth is not one to be taken lightly. He thrilled me, fascinated me with his knowledge, brought me to my knees with his commands. Most importantly, he just made me laugh until my sides ached!

Seven was honest and satisfying. Twyla is refreshingly open to new experiences. Her strength is her love for her sister and her willingness to sacrifice her life for her sister to be safe and happy. That’s true love and a bond that nothing can break. Seth and his Doll have amazing chemistry and a sensual playfulness that made me sigh and grin the silly happy grin. The twists and turns had me reading with one hand over my mouth and the other swiping the tablet as fast as I could. Kayla once again did a tremendous job telling another Club Alias story. Seth and Twyla’s amazing installment in this great series is one not to be missed!

Oh, this story felt so good!

I have always like Alice Story. She’s a hard working, tough as nails broad who stood up to her sexist tyrant of a father and made herself a success. She loves her sisters and wants nothing more than to take care of her family. Even Elizabeth who has chosen for whatever reason to remain attached to her clueless father. The only person that Alice has truly had to turn to is her assistant, Carlos. This brave beautiful man chose to take a chance and left with Alice to begin her import business. Over the years of working so closely together, they have formed such a bond. They work well together, think in the same ways, see business the same way. Still, clearly they have way more than business between them, and fight though she may, Alice Story definitely wants Carlos to be far more than her executive assistant. Far more.

Carlos Vega is determined to have it all – career, family and Alice. This Latino Adonis has no doubts about his devotion Alice Story, and he firmly believes that he can make her happy. He knows that Alice has insecurities – the biggest being the seven years between them. It’s getting harder and harder to pick a favorite family. I don’t think I want to! The Director was a welcome distraction with a nice side trip to the Caribbean. Great job, Katy.

Just when I felt like everything was falling apart, I’m beginning to wonder if maybe they were finally falling into place.

I have a mix of shattered, soulful, sweet, and swoon-filled tears in my eyes left from The Catch. My feels are still flying at full force. My emotions are still entwined around every bit of this book. This surprise of a story snuck up on me, throwing a HUGE CURVEBALL my way, and I LOVED EVERY FAST-FLYING MINUTE.

After just one chapter, my heart jumped, racing out of my chest, beating fast and furiously. I knew almost immediately that this romance is a GAME CHANGER, as The Catch DELIVERS ALL THE THINGS!!! The Catch went from something to EVERYTHING in mere minutes. Sexy, swoon-filled, and spine-tingling, The Catch hits the heart hard and shreds the soul in a roller coaster of a romance that is BASEBALL BOOK BLISS.

The characters immediately pulled me towards them where I was I intertwined so closely, they felt real. Scout, so strong and beautiful, is a warrior woman fighting battles for those she loves. Easton is one hot and full-of-heart alpha of a ball player who goes to bat for what and who he loves. Scout and Easton are MAGNETIC together, their romance full of fire where I MELTED!!!

This couple’s chemistry is combustible and their adoration for each other endearing. My feelings were bursting inside.

My rating is 4 out of 5 stars

A quick second chance novella that shows people can change. I was sucked in from the beginning and was so curious to see where the book was going to head. It could have been a disaster waiting to happen for Jessica and I felt for her. I was rooting for her from the beginning.

Jessica made it clear in the beginning that she was a complete mean girl in high school. She has totally changed in the last 10 years. Her friends insist she go to her reunion but she doesn’t want to show without a date. Her brilliant friends decide to order her a date from an escort service so she doesn’t show up looking pathetic. Boy is she in for a surprise when she gets to the airport and her “date” picks her up.

Jake sees her application come across his computer and decides it’s time for revenge. When he sees how defeated and obviously changed she is, he changes his tune.

Taking a fortifying breath that did nothing to fortify, she scrolled through her texts to find the number that had shown up last night. The words were short and to the point.

I’ll pick you up at the airport.

Nothing there to tell what kind of man she’d ended up with, and she’d been too cowardly to text back anything other than a generic agreement. Now there was nothing left to stall with. Jessica hitched her purse higher up on her shoulder and headed through security. The big red line tiled into the floor was a point of no return in so many ways. Why did I think this was a good idea?

Her mama didn’t raise a coward, though, so she lifted her chin and marched forward. No matter who this guy was, she’d faced down worse. She’d been worse. It couldn’t be more horrifying than the Miss Texas Teen USA pageant of 2005 where that little brat Misty Brennan cut holes into her dress and she didn’t realize it until she was out on stage and had her pink polka dot bra showing to the audience and God. Jessica had powered through that and walked out with second place, and she’d power through this, too.

She joined the people from multiple flights crowded around the baggage claim, her body practically vibrating from nerves. The scent of too many people in too little space assaulted her, but she was more focused on the faces she didn’t recognize from the plane. Too many, all filtered in with the travelers—there was no way she’d be able to pick him out of the crowd. Her date had her picture, so he’d have to be the one to approach. What if he doesn’t? What if this is just karma giving me one last kick in the teeth?

“Nice to see you too, Jessie.” He touched his scruff. “A lot’s changed since you left.”

Her gaze jumped to his right shoulder. There was no outward sign of the injury that had started the end of it all, but then, he was wearing a light-weight black T-shirt, so it wasn’t like it would show. Focus, Jessica. “What are you doing here? Are you picking up someone for the reunion?” There you go. Nice and casual.

“You might say that.” He kept looking at her like he could see the inside of her head. Another new trick.

She glanced around, trying to be subtle. The baggage claim had started to clear out, and there weren’t any conveniently gorgeous men standing around alone. Where was her date? Now would be the perfect time for him to sweep in and do the job she’d hired him for. “I’m here with someone.”

“I know.”

She frowned. “What are you talking about?” On second thought, escaping Jake before she met her date was probably a better choice. She didn’t want to have to deal with meeting this new guy and trying to pretend they’d been dating forever. Being back in the This Man world is always something to be excited about. I mean anyway to get more Jesse is a winner with me but DREW is something else! This NEW man eclipses any that Jodi has written before. Even though All I Am isn’t full length the story we get is still intense and addictive. All I Am & Drew OWNED me like any true alpha male does. And I loved every second.

Once again Jodi’s exquisite story telling allowed for me to be swept of my feet, tied up in words, emotions and feelings. The connection between Drew & Raya is HOT! I got PRICKLES and BUTTERFLIES every time they came together. These two are dirty, raw, primal and so freaking exceptional! Annnd if that’s not enough, Drew is a single dad people!! Cue major SWOON ALERT!

I’m never surprised by anything Jodi delivers because each and every book blows me away. All I Am may not have been full length but it gave me everything and then some!!
