Tempt Me: A Stark International Novella by J. Kenner

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sometimes you have to take and build your wings on the way down. ~Kobi Yamada

Over three years ago, I took a leap and picked up a book by J. Kenner, Release Me, and I’m so glad I did! That first J. Kenner book began my mad love for this author’s poetic-sounding prose. The Stark series remains one of my all-time favorites today, one that OWNS ME. Every word and every book that J. Kenner writes are PURE SEDUCTION. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. Tempt Me, the latest J. Kenner sensation, wrapped me in a blanket of smolder and sweetness while seducing every ounce of me.

As I inhaled Tempt Me, I was instantly CAPTIVATED…CONSUMED…CHARGED. The magnetism of the melt-worthy words drew me to them like a moth to a flame, fueling me. My body burned for this book, a fire sparking to life. Every word ignited every part of me.

Ryan the Security Chief at Stark International and Jamie Archer are going strong but he’s ready to take their relationship to the next level. This couple is the perfect match. I felt their connection surge through the pages.

Jamie and Ryan’s chemistry is combustible. Ryan is dominant in the bedroom and his words shot sparks of desire through me.

“I want you lost in fantasy. I want to watch your body move under my hand, not knowing where the next touch will be…I want you at my mercy.”

tempt-me-teaser-5

Ryan wants to worship Jamie out of the bedroom. This prince wants to make Jamie his princess…his bride.

“He’s truly my knight. A man who, quite literally, rescued me when I tried to run away…I don’t know how I could survive without him beside me.”

While Ryan tamed the wild woman, Jamie, he’s not done claiming her. He wants to put a ring on it…on her…make Jamie his forever.

“Do you really not understand how much you mean to me?”

tempt-me-teaser-3

Jamie loves Ryan, the first man who has made her want to stay…until forever comes to play.

“If I love him and he loves me, why the hell am I running?”

Tempt Me may be short and sweet, but it packs a powerful and penetrating punch!!! Ryan and Jamie’s love story was HEAVEN!!! This book was BLISS! I LOVED Tempt Me, a story that SEDUCED every ounce of me! Smolder … sweetness … swoon … SENSATIONAL!

J. Kenner’s Tempt Me and the rest of her stories are as smooth as silk, coaxing and consuming the reader. I can’t consume this author’s words fast enough!!! J. Kenner has the magical touch with writing that is mesmerizing and magnificent. Every wondrous word wraps itself around me and squeezes tightly, embracing me from head to toe. I’m still entangled in Tempt Me, a tantalizing and tender tale that tempted me indeed.

synopsis

Sometimes passion has a price …

When sexy Stark Security Chief Ryan Hunter whisks his girlfriend Jamie Archer away for a passionate, romance-filled weekend so he can finally pop the question, he’s certain that the answer will be an enthusiastic yes. So when Jamie tries to avoid the conversation, hiding her fears of commitment and change under a blanket of wild sensuality and decadent playtime in bed, Ryan is more determined than ever to convince Jamie that they belong together.

Knowing there’s no halfway with this woman, Ryan gives her an ultimatum – marry him or walk away. Now Jamie is forced to face her deepest insecurities or risk destroying the best thing in her life. And it will take all of her strength, and all of Ryan’s love, to keep her right where she belongs…

excerpt

“Kiss me,” he says, and I close my mouth over his, losing myself in the sensation of being body on body like this, so close I can’t tell if the heartbeat I’m feeling belongs to Ryan or me.

We move slowly at first, but there’s no holding back, and soon our motions are frenzied. Soon, he’s exploding inside me. Soon, I shatter in his arms.

“Oh, baby,” he murmurs when we’re sane again and he’s looking at my face with eyes filled with love. “You are so beautiful.”

I bend and kiss him—my heart overflowing. And I can’t help but think how different it is with Ryan than the men I’d been with before. Before, when a guy called me beautiful, I’d mentally cringed, at least a little.

Because the truth is, I am beautiful. It’s not an ego thing—it’s just an empirical fact. It’s useful, and I’ve definitely traded on it. But it’s not who I am. Not the heart of me. And in my life BR—

Before Ryan—whenever a guy called me beautiful, I never knew if he cared about me, or if he was just happy to have a pretty piece of a**.

With Ryan, I know without a doubt that he loves me. And the beauty he sees in me is more than what a camera sees.

He sees the whole woman. A lover, a friend. He sees a girl he can laugh with. That he can talk to. A woman to spend long, lazy nights with. A woman with hopes and dreams and fears and doubts.

He sees me. Jamie Archer. And that’s a really nice feeling.

“I love you,” I say, those little words just spilling out of me. “You’re the best thing that ever happened to me.”

The moment I say the words, though, I regret them. Not because they aren’t true—they are.

But because I can see the response on Ryan’s face, though he knows enough not to say the words out loud.

If that’s true, then why won’t you marry me?

Review-Melt by Helen Hardt

My rating is 6 out of 5 stars
OMG. You made my heart stop in my chest. You just don’t forsee any of the outcomes thrown your way. Angst filled with tons of action thrown in there. I was in tears at the end. Once I picked it up, I wouldn’t put it down for anything. Helen has given us such a heartbreakingly beautiful series. I CANNOT wait for book 6. Just like I’m giving this book 6 stars.
Melanie is a fighter, and fight she did. When she was kidnapped in the previous book, I had no idea how she would escape because this book isn’t predictable like a lot of books are. I can usually tell what is going to happen when reading a book. Not this time.
Poor Jonah. He broker my heart throughout the whole book blaming himself for Melanie’s abduction. He was so fixated on finding out who Talon’s other abductors were. Now on top of that, he has to tell his best friend that his father is a rapist and murderer.  He also has to face Talon and let his brother know. He is torn with what to do.
The sexual tension and connection between the sheets, literally almost Burnes my kindle. You must read the first 4 books on this series. I highly qualified it.

Jonah Steel is knee deep into trying to solve the mystery surrounding his family and his brother’s abduction, and the arrival of his best friend has complicated the situation…although not as much as his infatuation with his brother’s therapist, Dr. Melanie Carmichael. The quiet humility of the blond beauty has him enthralled, and he burns for her as he never has for any woman.
Melanie Carmichael is intelligent and driven, yet filled with regret. She has fallen in love with gorgeous Jonah Steel, but fears she may never be able to tell him. The demons from her past have come for her…and she may not get out alive.

Review – Riveted by Jay Crownover

riveted-cover

Riveted by Jay Crownover

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Show me the most damaged parts of your soul, and I will show you how it shines like gold. ~Nikita Gill

When you begin and end a book in tears, you know it’s a game changer of a story that’s ruled not only your head but your heart.

Riveted by Jay Crownover slammed into my soul with a force I never saw coming, but one I felt with every word from beginning to end. I had no choice but to fall into the words that bled into me – becoming me – because each word that Jay Crownover pens shines like gold, as powerful and as penetrating as the sun.

TRUE STORY: I typically start and end a Jay Crownover story in tears.

Riveted was both my sun and rain, the perfect storm and rainbow. Riveted was my light and dark, shades of grey that mix the gloom with the great. Riveted was my happiness and my sorrow. Riveted was so many things. Riveted was everything…MY EVERYTHING.

TRUE STORY: Jay Crownover’s introductions and dedications to her books engage my emotions—feelings in full force—as much as the stories themselves.

The introductions and dedications Jay Crownover writes are as moving as the stories themselves, relaying the reasons for and the background behind the books but so much MORE. These introductions and dedications are pieces of this author poured into the books, glimpses into what makes Jay…‘Jay’…and what hits her heart and surfaces in her soul. Life lessons are poured into these pre-book pieces, ones that make you really ponder your life. With each of Jay’s beautiful and brilliant books that I’m inspired before I even start the story.

You don’t believe me?!? Here is a quote from Jay’s Introduction, which resonated with me:

No matter what kind of armor we wear, all of it has a chunk, a dent that speaks to a battle we fought and lost.

This quote is LIFE!!!

TRUE STORY: Jay’s words are not just emotions but inspiration. I can’t help but ponder the meaning of life with the lessons Jay teaches in her words.

Dixie Carmichael is the red-haired beautiful bartender at Rome’s bar who has had her eye on the bar’s gorgeous and gruff bouncer, Dash ‘Church’ Churchill for many months.

He was effortlessly a whole lot of eye candy and there was no denying I had one hell of a sweet tooth.

An eternal optimist and forever romantic, Dixie sees life as sunshine and rainbows while the muscular, former soldier, Church sees more darkness and storms.

She shone as bright as the sun every single day but I was a man that knew all too well that too much time in the sun could lead to some serious burns.

TRUE STORY: I try my hardest every day to be like Dixie—to be the sun to someone’s shadow—because negativity is a real downer, and I don’t want to bring others down.
Dixie has been waiting for Mr. Right, Church, to claim her, but her Prince Charming thinks he’s Mr. Wrong.

I might have now known he was for me, but it was evident Church didn’t have a clue.

riveted-teaser

Church thinks the world of Dixie and would love to claim her as his, but he doesn’t want his dark to snuff out her light

She lived in the light and I was far more comfortable hiding in the dark.

Dixie is done waiting around for the former soldier, Church, to realize that he needs her sweet sunshine in his gloomy world.

I’d never had him, but I was far from ready to let him go.

TRUE STORY: As a military wife whose husband has gone to war a few times, I could relate to the former soldier, Church, as some of those battle scars truly never heal. Those kinks are still in that armor, as even the brave battle a few internal wars too.

Just as she started looking for another Mr. Right, Church asks her to return to his home in Mississippi as a friend to help him sort out some loose ends. Denver was supposed to be just a temporary stop on his quest back to the South…his home.

This cross-country trip reveals some truths, some hard, some harrowing, and some happy. Dixie is determined to shed some sunshine onto Church’s storm, even if it means risking it all.

She kissed me. Her lips touched mine and she destroyed me.

This book?!? Riveted DESTROYED ME, decimating every piece. This story hit my heart like a hurricane. Riveted SATURATED AND SHRED MY SOUL.

To Dixie, Church is not just a hero with a huge heart and her friend, but more.

Maybe I wasn’t the girl meant for happily-ever-after.

To Church, Dixie is the girl he wants but can never have as he will destroy her with his darkness, suffocating her sunshine.

I felt Riveted’s light shine through me while reading. I felt the dark too that DECIMATED MY EMOTIONS, a dark cloud over my soul threatening to storm.

I knew the sun could burn when you let it shine on your unprotected skin for too long. That’s what it felt like after giving Dixie so much and having her still look at me like I was something special.

Riveted is an ALL-CONSUMING and AWE-INSPIRING roller coaster of a romance that dances between dark and light, shredding the soul and hypnotizing the heart. Oh is Riveted SPECIAL!!! This perfectly imperfect story scorched and saturated my soul, teetering between storms and rainbows. This former soldier and bartender were magical together, a bold fusion of dark and light, two heroes whose story I’m glad Jay Crownover told!

Riveted is over, but I’m still riding the high from this moving and memorable story. Tears are still etched in my eyes, this brilliant and beautiful book fresh in my head. Jay Crownover’s wondrous words wrap themselves around me each time, daring me not to feel…EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.

Sometimes all people can see is what’s different, but those differences are what make us who we are.

I don’t see life as black and white; I see varying hues of grey. Jay Crownover’s books are grey: not black…not white…not quite dark…not quite light…but sooooo bold and beautiful. Since I met first met Rule years ago, I coined a few Jay-isms that apply to each since story of hers. Jay Crownover is the master of writing fierce and flawed heroes, heroes that since Rule I’ve called ‘bad ass boys with big ass hearts.’ I know these boys, all of her heroes, own my heart for life as do her beautiful and brave heroines.

Riveted was my ADDICTION…my ACHE…MY ALL. This heartwarming and soul-searing story will fall in a long line of Jay masterpieces with all of The Marked Men, The Point, and Saints of Denver. All of these stories hold a special place in my heart and most are signed beauties on my shelf.

TRUE STORY: Jay’s books are my drugs. I call this addiction, which began with Rule and hasn’t stopped, ‘Crownover Crack.’ The Crownover Crack gets me every time.

Jay Crownover’s books have marked me for life, each story an intense imprint on my soul. Riveted left its mark, a mark that has lifted this story to a top February 2017 read and a best book of 2017. I just can’t turn the feels left in the wake of Hurricane Jay off and I don’t want to; I want to keep living through her wondrous words that are LOVE AND LIFE.

TRUE STORY: There were tears in my eyes as I wrote this review, the story still moving me though it’s been over for many hours.

synopsis.jpg

Everyone else in Dixie Carmichael’s life has made falling in love look easy, and now she is ready for her own chance at some of that happily ever after. Which means she’s done pining for the moody, silent former soldier who works with her at the bar that’s become her home away from home. Nope. No more chasing the hot as heck thundercloud of a man and no more waiting for Mr. Right to find her; she’s going hunting for him…even if she knows her heart is stuck on its stupid infatuation with Dash Churchill.

Denver has always been just a pit stop for Church on his way back to rural Mississippi. It was supposed to be simple, uneventful, but nothing could have prepared him for the bubbly, bouncy redhead with doe eyes and endless curves. Now he knows it’s time to get out of Denver, fast. For a man used to living in the shadows, the idea of spending his days in the sun is nothing short of terrifying.

When Dixie and Church find themselves caught up in a homecoming overshadowed with lies and danger, Dixie realizes that while falling in love is easy, loving takes a whole lot more work…especially when Mr. Right thinks he’s all wrong for you.

Review – A Thousand Letters by Staci Hart

wp-image-1717680314jpg.jpg

A Thousand Letters by Staci Hart

wp-1486585498849.jpg

sophiereview.jpg

To infinity & beyond. That’s where A Thousand Letters took me. It built me up, broke me down, crushed my heart and soul then breathed the warmest of love right back into those broken pieces.

“The words I had weren’t enough. They’d never been enough. They’d never be enough.”

A Thousand Letters has literally stole all of my words, my breath, my heart. Everything. Like the quote, words are not enough. They never will be, because there are no words to fully tell you what this book means. What it represents. What it delivers. What STACI delivers.

“Down to their deepest source, / Admiring you shall find / Their roots are intertwined”

I cannot begin to tell you how raw and intense and downright beautiful the connection between Wade and Elliot is and how perfect they truly are, as individuals and together. I have had goosebumps the majority of the time I spent reading. My heart has gone from pounding, quick beats to slow, steady thuds. My breath came in either quick bursts or long, shuddering blasts of pain and anguish. I have cried, so many tears, tears of intense sadness, tears of beauty, tears of joy. My emotions are strung out, pulled and stretched to the thinnest degree.

“Inch by inch,
Second by second,
Pulling yourself from the wreckage,
Leaving it behind you
To survive.”

I was wrecked. Wrecked by the power of words. Formed so simply, so seamlessly, because that what we have here. A flawless, stunning mixture of words and sentences that captivate and consume and make you FEEL! The layout of this novel couldn’t have been more perfect. The deliverance couldn’t have been any more perfect. All of it, is perfection of the highest degree. And when it all felt too much, too intense, that perfection is what pulled me through, to reach the end.

“Love is a line
Spanning the distance
Between two hearts.”

Staci held all the power over me; my heart, my soul, my entire being, was in her hands. She had a direct line to my heart, and she used that line to deliver pain, heartache, anger, fear and sorrow. But she also delivered breathtaking beauty. Heartwarming reality and intense truths. Staci delivers second chances and love. Such a strong, undeniable love.

“To live
Is to feel
So you know
You are real.”

In reality, A Thousand Letters has it all. It’s more than just a contemporary romance. It more than just a novel. It’s everything and more. It covers life, reality. It showcases the hardness of war and the realness of how it affects loved ones left behind. It’s a journey. A truth. It’s also Staci. Stripped bare. A Thousand Letters is her most real novel yet. I see her, in the words. In the story. In the pain. In the love. I see it all. I felt it all.

“At the edge
Of no more
Is where we find
Our truth.”

MY truth? My truth is that A Thousand Letters now sits at the very edge of everything I am. It obliterates all Staci’s previous works and settles itself as my favourite Staci Hart novel.

“The sun will rise;
Your lungs will breathe;
Your heart will love.”

In the end, love is all you can do. It’s all you will feel. It’s a joyous, beautiful love that lights you up from the inside out and sears your soul so deeply and so intensely. A star rating of any number isn’t enough. Nothing is enough. This novel sits on its own, ahead of the rest. The best of the best.

5starlips.jpg

synopsis.jpg

Sometimes your life is split by a single decision.

I’ve spent every day of the last seven years regretting mine: he left, and I didn’t follow. A thousand letters went unanswered, my words like petals in the wind, spinning away into nothing, taking me with them.

But now he’s back.

I barely recognize the man he’s become, but I can still see a glimmer of the boy who asked me to be his forever, the boy I walked away from when I was young and afraid.

Maybe if he’d come home under better circumstances, he could speak to me without anger in his voice. Maybe if I’d said yes all those years ago, he’d look at me without the weight of rejection in his eyes. Maybe if things were different, we would have had a chance.

One regretted decision sent him away. One painful journey brought him back to me. I only wish I could keep him.

*A contemporary romance inspired by Jane Austen’s Persuasion*

Review – Never & Again by Alissa York

na

review-graphic

Alissa York has written an absolutely amazing second chance love story with that little touch of taboo that makes Lydia and Jacob’s story even sexier!

She met him when she was a high school senior and he was a student teacher. They were drawn to each other but never acted on their feelings. They knew it was wrong… that it would only lead to heartache and loss. But a literal run in the day of graduation would change the course of Lydia and Jacob’s lives forever. Their relationship began that day – burning hot, even though they agreed to one rule. It’s only sex, no feelings would be involved.

They both knew that it was a lie… that is was STILL a lie.

The years pass and Lydia and Jacob find themselves together again – another literal run in. But this time… this meeting comes with revelations that shake Jacob to his very foundation. After losing his mother, his home and discovering that his wife was a cheater could Jacob finally have all that he’s ever wanted and have it with Lydia? He’s never stopped loving her and he can feel in his heart that she’s never stopped loving him either. Decision made. Never again would he be without her. There may be obstacles in the way but he’s not going to stop until he has her in his life, his home and his bed. Lydia knows that nothing good can come of this. She knows that as soon as she gives Jacob everything he’s going to leave her again. With so much more at stake, how can she trust him? How can she risk another broken heart?

This was a fantastic read that I couldn’t put down once I started. The story was beautifully written, the pace was just perfect. Lydia and Jacob’s steamy scenes kept me turning the pages and fanning my face, while the twists and turns on their road to happily ever happily made me scream at my kindle. Alissa’s talent is growing, and it shows in Never & Again. I am excited to see what she has coming next with the Broadway series! I highly recommend this up and coming author.

Brilliantly and fantastically done, Alissa!

Review – Trigger by L.P. Dover

trigger-cover

Trigger by L.P. Dover

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“Light is easy to love. Show me your darkness.” ~R. Queen

When I first saw that L.P. Dover was shaking things up with a romantic suspense or dark romance, I could not help but get excited! I love dark reads as much as I adore swoon-filled stories. Trigger is the latest sensation by L.P. Dover, a delicious dive into danger and darkness, and MY NEW FAVORITE BOOK BY THIS AUTHOR!

Trigger, like its name, was FAST AND FURIOUS. This riveting romance was a rush, a raging inferno of intensity where I could not turn the pages fast enough. Energy flowed through me like electricity where I could not help but be engaged. The powerful and perilous plot kept me highly tuned and trembling with anticipation. I WAS THOROUGHLY EXCITED, ENGAGED, AND ELECTRIFIED!

Preston Hale is gorgeous, muscular, tall, dark haired and grey-eyed…and also a killer.

“Killing was an addiction I couldn’t let go.”

trigger-teaser

Known as Trigger, this modern day vigilante rids the streets of the most sinister criminals. This Dark Knight is badass and beautiful, a mix of dark and light who has been to hell and back, surfacing stronger than ever.

“I didn’t give a f**k what people thought. I did what I had to do.”

trigger-teaser-2

Killing has become his addiction…his high…his drug.

“It shouldn’t make someone happy to kill another being, but I craved it.”

Until his high before he started killing, Emily ‘Emma’ Turner came back into his life. The beautiful blonde and blue-eyed woman was Preston’s best friend in college, back when life was much simpler…back when he was more light than dark.

“A need sparked deep inside of me. And for the first time in a long time, it wasn’t the need to kill. No, this ran bone deep. I ached to touch her skin, to mark her as my own.”

trigger-teaser-4

Emma never forgot the boy, and now very much a man, who she loved in college and still holds her heart today. When their paths cross years later, Preston and Emma still feel the combustive chemistry like during those college years.

“I threw my arms around his neck and pulled him down into a soul-searing kiss, pressing my lips achingly hard against his…He groaned into my mouth, his arms holding me so tight I could barely breathe.”

I felt that kiss, the passion pressing into me from the pages, the kiss that tugged on my heart.

“We can’t do this. If you’re smart, you’ll stay the hell away from me.”

Emma’s love for Preston never died, but this is not the same man who was sweet in college. This man is rough and raw…dark and dangerous…but Emma still can’t help but care for Preston. She’s determined to shine some light into his dark heart, bring back the Preston she knew and loved like no other.

“The Preston I fell in love years ago is still inside you.”

“He doesn’t exist anymore.”

I LOVED Preston, this melt-worthy man of many layers who walks on the edge of darkness but whose heart is pure gold. Preston protects those he loves and risks everything to be their dark hero. Oh what a hero he is who became my hero in this thrilling tale too!!!

Trigger is one deliciously dark and dangerous read, a drug that you need to devour! Trigger ignites with intensity in a tale that wrapped me in a blanket of darkness while, at the same time, slowly showered me with light. This pulse-pounding page-turner kept me on edge, emotions entangled as my heart raced out of my chest. I FELT THIS HIGH, this delicious drug of a story, where I was addicted and aching for more. I still need MORE.

synopsis.jpg

A killer . . . that’s what I am.
It’s what I do.
It’s what I live for.
I’m no longer the Preston Hale everyone knew. I left that life and the people in it a long time ago the second I made my first kill. I wasn’t going to give in, but when I heard the screams there was no going back.
It triggered the pain, the need.
I knew what I had to do, and I did it well. But I never expected for Emma Turner – the only link to my past – to come back into my life.
She triggers a different emotion inside me, something I hadn’t ever felt.
It’s not a want to kill . . . but a need to CLAIM.

excerpt

When I got downstairs to the dining room, Glenn and Wade were already there, speaking to each other in hushed tones by the large window. There were shiny plates on the table, with all sorts of silverware around them. Start from the outside and work your way in, was what I was told when it came to using the various forks and spoons. Give me just one of each and I’d be happy.

It wasn’t long before Glenn noticed me at the door and the conversation ceased. “Emma, you look lovely tonight,” he announced.

I smiled. “Thank you.”

He beckoned me over to the table and Wade held out a seat for me. I sat down and he took the one on the right, while Glenn sat on my left at the head of the table. There was only one other place setting and it was across from me.

“Wine?” Glenn asked, holding up the bottle.

I nodded. “Sure.”

He poured me a glass and I took a sip. It tasted like heaven, all fruity and crisp. It was so good I had to take another sip, and another, while we waited on the special guest. Not even a minute later, the dining room door opened and a man walked in. Only, he wasn’t just anyone.

It’d been eight years and he’d surely changed, but there was no mistaking those gray eyes. His hair was the same light brown, and mussed up like all the guys did their hair these days. However, his body looked totally different. His cream colored, long-sleeve sweater hugged a set of muscular arms, and his face was more rugged, covered in a five o’clock shadow.

I almost choked on my wine. “Oh my God.” Is it really him?

“Emma, are you okay?” Wade asked, his voice low.

“Yeah,” I whispered. “I’m fine.”

I waited for Preston to look at the table, and when his gaze finally caught mine, he paused for a slight second. In his face, I could see the friend I lost so long ago, but it vanished quickly.

Glenn and Wade both stood when Preston approached, and I shot up out of my seat, bumping the table with my jerky movements. Glenn grinned at me and then at Preston. “Preston Hale, I’d like you to meet Emma Turner. She’s my assistant. Emma, this is Preston Hale, a close family friend. His father is one of my dearest friends.”

Preston held out his hand and looked at me as if he’d never laid eyes on me before. “It’s nice to meet you.”

Was he being serious? I shook his hand and made sure to put a little extra squeeze in there for good measure. “Meet me? Surely, you remember who I am.”

Glenn’s eyes went wide. “Wait. You two already know each other?”

I nodded. “From college.” I was about to add before he up and left without a trace, but thought better of it.

Glenn chuckled and smacked a hand on Preston’s shoulder. “Well, isn’t this a small world? You’ll have to tell me some stories on this one.” He nodded my way.

Preston’s jaw clenched. “Can’t. Don’t remember her.”

My mouth dropped open; it was like being punched in the gut and slapped in the face, all at the same time. No words would come out, so I sat there with a lump in my throat. In college, he’d been a close friend. I sang with him in his band, Silent Break. We connected on stage in a way I’d never felt with anyone. I cared about him, and had even been ready to take the next step in our relationship right before he up and disappeared. I never got to tell him how I felt. Now he looked at me as if I was a stranger.

The room fell silent. I wanted to say something, but I bit my tongue. It was going to be the longest dinner of my life.

Review-Dare You To by Riley Hart

My rating is 4 out of 5 stars.

This was  quick and sweet prequel to a new series. It was just one of those short stories that makes your heart happy. Two friends who haven’t realized their attraction to each other for years, come together and it is oh so sweet.

Austin spends all of his time at the LGBT center for teens. Once a week a night is reserves just for him and Dare to watch movies. Austin is looking for the perfect man on paper but soon realizes he needs something that is perfect on his heart. He had no idea that would turn out to be his best friend.

Dare lives a life of promiscuity, getting attached to no one. The only constant in his life is Austin. When Austin’s boyfriend breaks up with him, Austin decides to try a hook up app. When Dare finds out, the whole relationship changes.

If you’re looking for a short and sweet read, this is definitely the book for you. I’m looking forward to the series.

Austin Thompson spends most of his spare time reading or logging in extra hours at the LGBTQ youth center where he works. His only standing “night out,” if you can call it that, is his weekly movie night with his best friend, Dare Nichols. Between work and Dare, it’s hard to find time for much else, so when he does actually try to date, it ends in disaster.

Dare thrives on living life on the wild side—surfing, mountain biking, sky diving. If it’s extreme, he’s game. Between sports and spending his evenings at his West Hollywood bar, Dare never sees a dull moment. Still, with all that excitement, most of his favorite times are when he’s tucked away in Austin’s apartment. Probably because he’s the only best friend Dare’s ever had.

Then the kiss happens and the men realize they don’t want to stop there. As they explore this new adventure in their relationship, Austin realizes the excitement he’s been looking for has been right there all along, and Dare has to decide if he can conquer his only fear by risking his heart.

EXCERPT

“I—” Austin started, but Dare held up a hand to stop him.

“Think we could clean up the jizz before we talk? I like come as much as the next guy, but I gotta tell you, it’s going to distract me if we don’t at least put our dicks away. You’ll be trying to talk, and I’ll be trying to play swords. It’ll be a disaster.”

It had been his intention to make Austin laugh, but it didn’t work, and honestly, he’d known it wouldn’t work. They’d just crossed a line in their friendship, and there was no way Austin would let it go without a talk.

“Use the hall bathroom. I’ll use the one in my room. Give me a second to grab you some clothes,” Austin replied.

Dare opened his mouth to tell Austin he would go home and come right back, but the green lasers Austin shot at him told him just to listen. The man really was getting bossy lately.

Dare headed to the bathroom. The second Austin tossed him a pair of sweats, he closed the door and leaned against it. Honestly? He couldn’t care less about the fact that their dicks had been out and they were messy. Messy sex was good sex in his mind, but the truth was, he’d needed a minute to get himself under control.

He’d just blown Austin. He’d jerked them off together. Seen the way he closed his eyes tightly, small wrinkles forming around them before he’d come. Seen the look in his eyes when Dare told Austin to open them.

Dare had never had any kind of sexual encounter with anyone he cared about before. He tried not to care about too many people at all, but Austin had not only found his way inside, but now they’d crossed another line and Dare didn’t know how he felt about it.

Okay, so that was a lie. His dick liked it a lot. His dick actually wanted to know what it felt like in Austin’s mouth too, or even better, how hot and tight it would be to be buried balls deep in his ass.

He was trying not to think with his dick, though. He needed to use his brain because this wasn’t just anyone. This was Austin. The guy who got him to read Harry Potter, even though he didn’t know it. The man who watched movies with him every week. It didn’t matter that he canceled dates with other people for work, or to relax with a book, when it came to their Sunday nights, Austin never missed a date. He’d never had anyone in his life who made him feel important the way Austin did. He’d never known what it was like to be a priority for someone, to have a person who wanted to spend time with him, and not because he was a good fuck, or because he knew how to have a good time…just because he was him. Dare.

He was scared to death of losing that…of fucking up…of hurting Austin…of getting hurt himself.

Review Tour- Tattered Gloves by JL Berg

My rating is 4 out of 5 stars

J.L. Berg takes you on an emotional journey of strength, perseverance, and courage. You will truly feel for Willow and will watch as she slowly blossoms into the beautiful young lady she was meant to be.

The relationships as he develops may take a while to develop because of the emotional trauma of her past, they do grow tremendously. I loved watching her turn into a beautiful butterfly and spread her wings.

Head down.

Don’t look up.

Never make eye contact.
Those were the words I lived by growing up, the words that protected me in an unsafe home. But words are only letters and eventually even they couldn’t keep his hands off me.

Hoping to leave behind the shattered life of my past, I find myself in a boring, small town, with an aunt I’ve never met and at a school I loathe.

But soon I learn, not everything in this world is as black and white as I’ve determined. Sometimes those we are so quick to judge often need a second, third or even fourth time to make a first impression.

And often, there are friendships and even love waiting just around the corner, if we are brave enough to take the first step.

Am I brave? Or will I hide behind these tattered gloves of mine forever?

Review – How Sweet It Is by Janelle Denison

how-sweet-it-is-cover

review-graphic

Oh what a sweet read this was!

Rebecca Moore had sacrificed so much in her life to see to her sister Celeste’s happiness after the loss of their mother when she was sixteen and Celeste a mire ten years old. She took on the responsbility of mother, care giver, and head of household when their irresponsible father tended to shy away from his duty to pay the bills and keep a roof over their heads. Those years shaped and solidified Rebecca’s opinion of what she wanted in life and in a man – stability, strength, steadiness. Spencer Bassett was no where near what she wanted in a man. He played video games for a living, was the carefree playboy and was six years younger than she was. No way could be have him… but boy, did she want him.

Spencer Bassett wasn’t going to give up on what he wanted – and he wanted Rebecca. He has always wanted her. The attraction between them was undeniable. He watched her give everything to her sister and now he wants to give her everything – fun, spontaneity, security. Love. He knows his time to convince Rebecca is short. He only has the weekend of Celeste’s wedding to show her that he’s the one for her.

This was such a fun, flirty but oh so steamy read! Spencer is sexy, funny and just plain yummy. For all that she’s done Rebecca is admirable, feisty and determined. It was so nice to see her just… give in and let go.

Wonderful afternoon read and perfect for Valentine’s Day! Grab this one!

synopsis.jpg

Practical, sensible Rebecca Moore doesn’t do playboys, especially ones like sexy, wealthy Spencer Bassett, even if he makes her want to do very naughty things with him. But when a weekend away at her sister’s wedding puts them in close proximity, Spencer doesn’t hesitate to take advantage of the undeniable attraction between them. Seducing Rebecca is his goal—with hot, steamy kisses, decadent chocolates, and sensual nights in his bed.

Rebecca is certain this is only a weekend fling, but Spencer is determined to win her over for good by showing her just how sweet it is.

Review – Before The Lie by KD Robichaux

before-the-lie

review-graphic

I was stunned from the first page. Vi and Corbin had me…. there was no way I couldn’t see this through to the end. I never saw this coming, and I am still so speechless.

This love story… this insta-love between one incredibly alpha Army specialist and one very shy high school senior. This was nothing like I expected. It was so much more. It was true love at first sight that I felt. It was red hot chemistry. The devil and his beautiful angel. Corbin was a young man with a tough past. A trouble maker, a criminal… someone with dark desires. Vi was an innocent girl who only found peace when she was rock climbing. But she never felt anything like the desire she felt the moment she laid eyes on Corbin. He wanted to protect her. Possess her… love her. She wanted to belong to him and only him. To be loved by him and to love only him.

Their relationship grew, strengthened and survived the rigours of deployments. It was everything that they had hoped it would be. Maybe even better. But as the title suggests, things change. The end of BTL is so gut wrenching… and even though I knew it was coming, I wasn’t ready for the punch to my heart the last words of the story gave me.

Steamy, sexy, angsty… moments when I laughed soo hard I cried! Kayla has written a beautiful tale of love and loss, passion and heartbreak. I confess I was captivated by Vi and Corbin. I was consumed by their story, and I freely admit I have begged Kayla to please, please, PLEASE HURRY UP with Truth Revealed. Their story is so far from over.

FANTASTIC, Kayla!

It was love at first sight.

Not just for me, but for Corbin as well.

Our eyes locked across the room, and that was all she wrote.

But we didn’t rush things.

We wanted to do it right.

After all, we would spend the rest of our lives together.

The love of my life.

My soul mate.

He was the intense and fiercely protective soldier,

and I was his doting and faithful lover.

I found my happily ever after.

This was our story…

KD Robichaux wanted to be a romance author since the first time she picked up her mom’s Sandra Brown books at the ripe old age of twelve. She went to college to become a writer, but then married and had babies. Putting her dream job on hold to raise her family as a stay at home mom, who read entirely too much, she created a blog where she could keep her family and friends up-to-date on all the hottest reads. From there, by word of mouth, her blog took off and she began using her hard-earned degree as a Senior Editor for Hot Tree Editing. When her kids started school, and with the encouragement from her many author friends, she finally sat down and started working on her first series, The Blogger Diaries, her very own real life romance.
