This book was certainly not what I thought it would be. It was darker and more intense than I expected. Still, Jade has written an exceptional story of young girl lost in the sadness of the foster care system and its effects on the mental health and stability of a child. Thrown into the mix are two best friends who find themselves falling for a much younger woman… a young woman who lacks discipline, needs a stable home and has fallen in with people who truly do not have her best interests at heart.
Carrie Wells has been shipped from foster home to foster home. She has never quite fit in, always making or getting into trouble. She clearly has been hurt by being rejected. Her latest case manager is Michael. He wants the best for her and has done everything he can to see her have a happy life. He has fought his attraction to Carrie for months. Now Carrie is turning 18 and after her last battle with final family she has no place to go. Mike can’t let her go. He simply can’t. Without meaning to, Mike drags his best friend, Jack, into Carrie’s situation. Jack is definitely the opposite of his friend. He’s direct and to the point, but all bets are off when he finds himself falling under the “Wells effect”.
As Carrie, Mike and Jack venture into their relationship there are many challenges. Carrie is deeply scarred by her time in foster care. Mike has never been very lucky when it comes to long term relationships. Jack doesn’t want to settle – he wants a relationship with Carrie but knows that he will hurt Mike if Carrie chooses him. Then there are the outside forces that the threesome find that they have to face on the way to their happily ever after.
This was another exceptional read from Jade West! I enjoyed the story and the dynamics between Carrie, Mike and Jack. It has its steamy, sensual moments, but I felt this story had more focus on the emotion and challenges that Carrie faced. Her road has not been easy, and while she may have been stubborn, willful and disrespectful on the surface, underneath the bravado was a young woman simply looking for love, compassion and stability. This story was angsty, heartbreaking but ultimately heartwarming and an ending that made me smile. Good job, Jade!

She’s half my age and totally off limits. I’m breaking every rule in the book by giving her somewhere to stay when she’s out on the streets with nowhere to go. And I’m breaking every rule of friendship by holing her up in my best friend Jack’s house while he’s away on business.
I thought life was difficult enough when I fell for the girl, but it gets a whole lot harder when Jack comes home early and finds a beautiful stranger causing chaos in his house.
And a whole lot harder still when he falls for her too.
He’s the one guy on this planet I’d share my last supper with. I’d share it gladly.
I’m just not so sure how I feel about sharing Carrie Wells.
Jade has increasingly less to say about herself as time goes on, other than the fact she is an author, but she’s happy with this fact.
Living in imaginary realities and having a legitimate excuse for it is really all she’s ever wanted. Jade is as dirty as you’d expect from her novels, and talking smut makes her smile.
She lives in the Herefordshire countryside with a couple of hounds and a guy who’s able to cope with her inherent weirdness.
She has a red living room, decorated with far more zebra print than most people could bear and fights a constant battle with her addiction to Coca-Cola.
