Review  – No Filter by Nora Phoenix

6 out of 5 stars

To say  that I loved this book is an understatement. You do have to be open-minded while reading because of relationship dynamics that are unconventional, but there is absolutely no cheating involved. Plain and simple this is a love story filled with heartache, past pain and regrets, and 3 strong but broken men. Their story just completely sucked me in and left me hanging on every word. I turned pages so fast that I thought I’d break the kindle.
I had no idea this was a debut novel for this author. She definitely showed her strength in writing this absolutely beautiful book. I will be counting down the clock for book 2.

BLURB

Indy will do anything to prevent his mobster ex from finding him. Their last encounter left Indy recovering for months in the hospital, and ever since he’s become an expert at hiding in plain sight. Determined to stay under the radar, he takes on a new identity and moves from place to place. His life has no room for friendships, let alone love, so he keeps his heart firmly closed. After all, he has nothing to offer but a damaged body and a broken soul. Plus, he’s so done with men. Until he meets the man who breaks through all his defenses.

Former Army Medic Noah came back damaged from his last tour—in more than one way. Between supporting his best friend who’s struggling with PTSD, dealing with his own issues, and the stress of his job as a physician assistant, rebuilding his life seems impossible. There’s little time for what Noah needs, let alone for what he wants. When he meets Indy, Noah discovers what he wants more than anything: for Indy to stay.

Indy never expected the strong, confident Noah to be as damaged and broken as himself. But what will happen if he starts letting Noah in? Indy knows he should run to protect himself and Noah.

Noah needs Indy to stay more than anything. But will what little he has to offer be enough to make Indy trust him and stay?

No Filter is a steamy M/M romance that ends with a HFN, but with the promise of a HEA. It’s the first book in the No Shame Series, and is not a stand-alone novel. It contains hot sex, a hint of a ménage, lots of talk about hot sex, flashbacks of said hot sex, and…Oh well, you get the idea. Also: trigger warning for mentions of sexual abuse.

Dressed in a T-shirt and flannel PJ bottoms, Indy made his way downstairs. Autumn had started, setting the trees in the yard on fire in an explosion of red, orange, and yellow, and bringing cold nights, but downstairs it was comfortably warm. Noah was reading the paper in his usual spot, but Josh was nowhere to be seen.

“Morning,” Indy said, always a bit shy at first when it was only him and Noah.

“Hey. How are you feeling?” Noah never failed to ask Indy this, and it wasn’t a polite question.

“Good. Haven’t my felt my ribs in two days, so I’m officially pain free.”

Indy grabbed a bowl from the cabinet.

“Perfect. We’ll cut off your cast today. I didn’t think you’d want to do an official hospital visit for that, right?”

Indy shook his head, carefully cutting a banana on a cutting board with one hand and putting it in the bowl. He took yogurt from the fridge. “Not if I can avoid it.”

“Well, you’re lucky you have a highly skilled medical professional at your disposal, who’s willing to do a house visit.”

Indy grinned as he sprinkled crunchy granola on top of his yogurt. “Don’t know about the highly skilled part, but at least he’s free.”

“That hurt.” A smile tugged at the corners of Noah’s mouth. “My price just went up.”

“Double times nothing is still nothing, you do realize that?” Indy took a bite of his breakfast. He loved these verbal matches with Noah almost as much as not having to worry about what to eat for breakfast every day.

“Who says it was free to begin with? I only offered my skilled services, never said they were free.”

“So what’s your price?” Indy asked, expecting Noah to launch another joke.

“I want you for the entire day,” Noah said.

Indy frowned, quickly chewing to empty his mouth. “What do you mean?”

Noah reached out and circled Indy’s good wrist with his right hand, gently pulled until Indy was standing between his legs. “It’s my day off, and Josh has some special therapy session, so he’s gone all day. I want to spend the entire day with you, and you have to do exactly what I tell you.”

When she was a little tot, Nora’s mom got a library subscription for her. That, as they say, was that, and a lifelong love for books was born. Nora never stopped reading and doesn’t exaggerate when she says she devours books, rather than plain reads them. She started writing stories as soon as she could hold a pen, and wrote her first full book as a teen (on a typewriter!). It took her waaaay too long to follow her dream to become a romance author.

Nora writes M/M romance, because hello, sexy boys, and likes her men flawed, strong, and a tad broken. She appreciates a little kink, but insists on a happy ever after.

The Other Brother by Meghan Quinn

My rating: 6 of 5 stars

”The harder you love, the harder you fall.”

Sometimes you don’t have to read but a few lines or pages of a story to fall hard in love. When you end the first and last chapters of a tale in tears, tears that remain etched in your eyes the whole time reading, you know you’ve met your emotional match. Meghan Quinn’s The Other Brother was MY EMOTIONAL MATCH. Edge to edge. Feel to feel.

I have a WEAKNESS for second-chance love stories and I didn’t have to read but a few minutes for The Other Brother to OWN ME!!! Heart. Soul. Mind. All taken by this thief of a story. The Other Brother, this second-chance romance full of fire and feels, was my soulmate. My kryptonite. So perfect. SO PERFECT FOR ME.

From the minute I was reunited with Aaron, AKA ‘Smalls,’ in The Other Brother, he HAD ME…ALL OF ME. This gorgeous man, so beautiful and broken, broke me while holding my heart in his hands. Aaron is the perfect man—gorgeous, witty, sweet, brooding, broken, sexy, strong, and so caring. What I love the most about this hero is his vulnerability. I fell so HARD for this amazing alpha whose heart is as beautiful as the man himself.

Sometimes couples need to grow separately before they come back together.

She was my rock, the one solid feature in my life. She was also my downfall.

Amelia is beautiful, sassy, and smart. When she returns to her hometown, she never expected to collide with her first love, Aaron. Aaron broke her heart once and she finally put the pieces together.

”I’ve chosen to forget about it . . . forget about you.”

These words CRUSHED ME, bursting hope like a popped balloon, as I hoped these soulmates would reconnect.

Can she feel how fast my heart is beating? Can she tell how much she still owns me?

I SHATTERED, breaking from these heartbreaking words. Words that pierced my heart. Words that shot straight to my soul. Words that meant so much. Aaron TOOK MY TEARS and STOLE MY HEART!!! I felt his heartbreak, emphasized with his struggles, and knew this man was everything!!!

I never got over him. I don’t think I ever will.

Sometimes love wasn’t sure to sustain the first time. Sometimes love needs a second chance as it wasn’t ready the first time.

”I feel this pull between us. It’s real.”

I felt this pull too, this hero and heroines’ IMPENETRABLE CONNECTION, so caring and combustible. The passion penetrates between Amelia and Aaron, as their love is still raw and real. A love that never died.

”You’re so confident,” I state, trying to calm my racing heart.

“I am. For once in my life, I’m sure of one thing. You’re mine.”

Oh Aaron! This is a hero who life constantly knocks down but keeps persevering, never giving up and I greatly admired his perseverance. Aaron has a beautiful soul, one as stunning as he is inside and out. If only Aaron would see his value, the light through the dark, the light that is Amelia, his shining star who has guided him for a lifetime.

”I’m not very good at seeing my worth.”

“I see the worth in you.”

I LOVED Amelia and Aaron together, and LOVED their story soooo hard! This couple felt REAL and their story is RELATABLE, as if their story could really happen, and that makes The Other Brother even more special. This tale of first love, the kind from soulmates, the one you root for to last forever, had me rooting for this couple to last a lifetime.

Megan Quinn has, hands-down, written her BEST BOOK YET: The Other Brother !!! This is one of my FAVORITE SECOND-CHANCE ROMANCES EVER!!! The Other Brother’s writing is PHENOMENAL: a magnetic mix of swoon and sorrow infused with hits of humor in a second-chance story woven in love. HEARTFELT MAGIC!!! I’m sorry Racer and Tucker, but Smalls delivered the biggest!!! With a broken hero with a beautiful soul and the strong and stunning woman who heals him, this story is a storm that strikes the soul!!! The hero and heroine were carved for each other like this soul-slaying second-chance romance was for me.

The Other Brother, this love story with all the heart that stole my heart, is EVERYTHING!!! This tale of broken love TOUCHED ME SO HARD!!! Words…mere WORDS…rendered me so full of FEELS where I still felt and am feeling everything long after the story has stopped. There are not enough words and not enough stars to capture my love for this emotionally-woven, second-chance romance…MY KRYPTONITE. The Other Brother is HEART-POUNDING PERFECTION!!!

A TOP 2017 read!!!

I got the call. The dreaded call every child fears. My dad wasn’t well, and the man who had always been my everything needed me.

There was only one thing to do; pack up and head back to my hometown. I had finally made my dream life in the city with the great job and loving boyfriend. But was there really a choice not to go?

I found a wonderful job, a quaint house to rent, my boyfriend was working on joining me in Binghamton, and my favorite pizza place was only miles away. Life was good.

Until I met my neighbor.

It’s been three years since I’d seen Aaron Walters, and my God is he all kinds of sexy gorgeous. Figures. He was supposed to be my forever, the man I grew old with, but he had different plans. How can a man who ripped my heart apart still trip me up? How can he make me still want him now more than ever?

I’m tempted, I’m drawn toward him, I’m completely and utterly unaware that I’m dating his biological brother.

Now two men own my heart. The question is, which brother will I choose?

Right on time, I’m impressed.

She doesn’t get out of her car right away, so I give her a second but then realize maybe she’s not exiting the vehicle because I have the key to the house and she has nowhere to go.

Wanting to make a good impression and seem approachable since I’m the property manager, I run my hand through my hair and adjust my jeans. I’m not wearing any fancy shit, but at least I don’t have holes in or paint stains on my clothes. I hop off my front porch and make my way toward her car, slowly, not wanting to scare her.

There is muffling coming from her car, voices I can’t quite hear, but I get the idea she’s finishing up a conversation, so I slow my pace drastically. That’s when I see her tilt her head down and look at me. From the reflection of the light off her windows, I can’t make out her features. I can only see a silhouette.

I lift a friendly hand in her direction to let her know I come in peace and make my way to her driveway. There is no wave back, but I do hear the telltale sound of her opening her car door. She steps out and when I round the vehicle, I catch the sun off her driver’s side window, temporarily blinding me.

Blinking my eyes a few times to calm my retinas, I bring her into focus.

“Aaron . . .”

Every hair on my body sticks straight up and my body goes still from that voice, that unmistakably sultry voice.

When she finally comes into view, I am met with a pair of hazel eyes I haven’t been able to get out of my head since the day she left town for bigger and better things.

“Amelia.” I clear my throat and take a step forward. “Wow, I uh . . .” Tongue-tied, that’s exactly what I am right now. “Didn’t expect to see you get out of that car.” I laugh nervously while I pull on the back of my neck, trying to comprehend what’s going on. I point with my thumb toward the house and ask, “You’re the new tenant?”

She nods and looks me over, taking her time with her perusal, her eyes burning a hole right through my clothes like they used to. When her eyes meet mine again, she asks, “You’re the property manager?”

I nod and swallow hard. “And neighbor.”

She presses her lips together, thinning them out. “What are the chances?” She laughs nervously.

“Yeah, especially since I thought your life was in the city.” I didn’t mean for that to come out rude, but it did. Gentling my voice, I ask, “What brings you back home?”

Staring at the ground, clutching her purse to her side, she says, “My dad. He’s, uh, not doing well.” Duh, Mrs. Ferguson mentioned something like that. I’m so damn overwhelmed and shocked right now though, that entire conversation I had with Mrs. Ferguson is not registering in my mind.

“Oh no.” My brow pinches together in concern. “What happened?”

She waves me off. “Nothing you need to worry about.” And just like that she shuts me down. Honestly, I’m surprised she said that much to me after how we ended things between us.

Yes, there was an us, a perfectly beautiful, love-filled us. Amelia Santos was the best thing to ever happen to me, and yet, she was also the worst. During a time where my heart broke from every uncaring glance from my mom, Amelia resurrected me from the ashes I would have otherwise drowned in. She was my rock, the one solid feature in my life.

She was also my downfall.

She was going places, and I wasn’t. She had opportunity, and I had none. She wanted me to move with her, and I couldn’t, but no way in hell would I hold her back. I barely made it out of my mom’s house. There were many days when I tried hard to earn a buck so I could find a place to live other than the homeless shelter where I spent many lonely nights. Amelia deserved better than that, so I pushed her away to achieve her dreams. Little did I know, breaking up with her would send me in the biggest downward spiral of my life. The only reason I’m the man I am today is because after hitting rock bottom, I knew things needed to change, and it was up to me to make something of myself. So I worked my ass off. And now at thirty, I can say proudly that I’m a co-owner of an up-and-coming construction company as well as the proud owner of a house in the heart of Hillcrest, a beautiful two-story house. I’m doing well for myself . . . at least that’s what I thought until Amelia stepped out of her car.

Now I’m questioning every little thing about my life leading to this point.

Review – Ride Wild by Laura Kaye

 6 stars
This is hands down my favorite Laura Kaye book yet. I have been waiting for Slider’s story since we met the Ravens Riders and it was beyond every expectation!  It was well worth  the wait.
Slider is swimming in grief and inner turmoil after his wife died a few years ago. He no longer participates in club activities and hasn’t even pulled out his bike. His whole life revolves around taking care of his boys and wallowing in self pity. He is a broken man in every sense of the word
Cora feels like she is all alone even though she is surrounded by a whole biker club and her best friend, but since her best friend found love with the president,  she feels even more like she has no place in this life. Her whole life revolves around taking care of Slider ‘s kids and trying to save money to be a veterinarian  one day.
As things start to go downhill at home,  things drastically change between Slider and Cora as he watches how she cares for his boys and how much they love  her. He finally starts letting down his walls. But of course trouble isnt far,  and they have to get through the war to find their happily ever after!

About Ride Wild (Raven Riders #3)

Brotherhood. Club. Family.
They live and ride by their own rules.
These are the Raven Riders…

Wild with grief over the death of his wife, Sam “Slider” Evans merely lives for his two sons. Nothing holds his interest anymore—not even riding his bike or his membership in the Raven Riders Motorcycle Club. But that all changes when he hires a new babysitter.

Recently freed from a bad situation by the Ravens, Cora Campbell is determined to bury the past. When Slider offers her a nanny position, she accepts, needing the security and time to figure out what she wants from life. Cora adores his sweet boys, but never expected the red-hot attraction to their brooding, sexy father. If only he would notice her…

Slider does see the beautiful, fun-loving woman he invited into his home. She makes him feel too much, and he both hates it and yearns for it. But when Cora witnesses something she shouldn’t have, the new lives they’ve only just discovered are threatened. Now Slider must claim—and protect—what’s his before it’s too late.

Cora had such an easy way with Ben. With both of his kids, really. God, Slider admired that about her. Especially when nothing about him was easy, and hadn’t been in years.

Ben yawned and peered up at Slider. “You’re gonna stay with me, aren’t you? “

“You better believe it, Benji. And remember what we talked about. Nurses are going to come in a couple of times throughout the night. Just to check on you. I’ll be here the whole time,” Slider said, leaning over the boy so he could look him in the eyes. There was nothing like the unconditional love and admiration of a kid. But that didn’t mean Slider shouldn’t have to earn it. And he hadn’t done nearly enough these past few years, had he? He pressed a kiss to his son’s cheek. “Now shut those peepers.”

Ben giggled. “Your whiskers tickle Dad.” Slider ran his hand over the facial hair on his jaw. One more piece of evidence of the mess he’d become. But at least it made Ben laugh. The boy looked up at Cora next, his hand snaking into hers and tugging her closer. “You’re staying too, right?”

“Wild horses couldn’t tear me away,” she said, squeezing his hand.

Ben made a face. “There are wild horses here?”

Cora chuckled and Slider shook his head. “Peepers. Closed. Now,” he said.

The boy was asleep in an instant.

After not sleeping much today himself, Slider probably wasn’t far behind him. Still, he nodded at the small sleeper sofa and quietly said to Cora, “You can take that. Nurse said there are pillows and blankets in the closet.”

She shook her head. “No way. You haven’t slept. And I’m kinda attached here,” she said, glancing at where Ben still clutched her hand. “Seriously, Slider. Get some sleep while you can.”

Frowning, he pulled out the sleeper, which was only a little wider than a twin-sided bed, found the bedding, and lowered the lights. “How ‘bout this. We’ll take shifts.”

She smiled. “Sure.”

On a bone-deep sigh, Slider sat on the bed’s edge and kicked off his boots, and then he went horizontal still wearing his jeans and T-shirt. Cora laid her cheek against her arm, her face turned away from Slider toward Ben, her blond waves a soft cascade against the white hospital blankets.

And damnit all to hell, but it played with uncomfortable things inside his chest to see her like that. Things he didn’t want played with. Not ever again.

So he closed his eyes. And woke up two and a half hours later when the nurse came into the room to check Ben’s vitals. The kid hardly stirred, but Cora was still awake and making small talk with the woman about how her night was going.

“Your turn to get some sleep,” Slider said when they were alone again.

“Don’t worry about it. Go back to sleep.”

“We had a deal,” he said, his voice like gravel. Years of exhaustion did that to a man.

“Later,” she said, her expression soft with sleepiness. He forced himself into a sitting position, his stiff movements making him feel ancient. “You need it more than I do.”

He shook his head and pushed to his feet. “I’m not hogging the bed all night while you sit up in that hard chair.”

“Don’t be stubborn,” she said. “Sleep.”

He arched a brow. As much as he wanted to lie back down, he wasn’t doing it at her expense. “It’s your turn.”

“Slider—”

“Cora—”

She sighed. “I’m trying to take care of you, too.”
