Review – Blackstone by JD Hollyfield

The premise of this series really stuck out to me – Four Fathers. Each with their own story to tell but their stories are also interconnected. Each story gives the reader a different area of romance to explore: contemporary, erotic, taboo and dark. The blurbs drew me in and I was so amped to read Blackstone. I have never read anything by JD Hollyfield or any of the other authors.

Blackstone was just amazing. It was a quick read but I fell into immediately. Trevor Blackstone is one of the four owners of Four Fathers Freight. He’s a mathematical genius and that makes him quirky, serious and complex. His past has defined him and it one of misunderstandings, loss and abandonment. He finds solace in the ocean… and being in control. All of that is shattered when a spitfire of a woman moves in next door for the summer. But from the first look, from the first meeting, Lucy isn’t like anyone that Trevor has ever known. She’s funny, strong, observant and she just gets him. She’s peace in the violent storm of numbers, equations and formulas.

Like Trevor, Lucy has her own past filled with things that haunt her. Bad decisions, bad relationships, loss of confidence. Lossing her beloved grandmother was the catalyst for change and for the summer she’s going to take her grandmother’s advice and . She never expected Trevor, his affection, his attention. Weird but so very sexy, he turns her world upside down.

Oh, this was just SO GOOD. The story made me itch for more of Lucy and Trevor’s story. There were a few unanswered questions when I got to the last page and I hope that the next three books will have the answers. I laughed all the way through this read and Trevor is definitely not like any other hero I have ever read. Kudos to Lucy, though. She made that man earn her.

Being Sunday, I decide to take a break from memory lane. I snatch a worn historical romance paperback from Gran’s bookshelf and slide into my brand new white bikini. Grabbing my towel and a Mike’s Hard Lemonade from the fridge, I head out back.

The sun feels amazing on my skin. I inhale the breeze, tasting the salt of the ocean on my tongue. I drop my towel on the lawn chair and get comfortable. My shades are down, and my book is ready to be dominated.

“This is nice,” I hum to myself, lifting my lemonade and taking a nice sip.

And out it all repels as I spit and choke on it.

“Jeeeesus Christ.”

I knock my sunglasses halfway down my nose as my eyes threaten to fall out of their sockets. Where in holy heavens did he come from? The half-naked man leaning on his balcony across the way. My tongue about falls out of my mouth. Is that Numbers? And holy shit, when did he get so much muscle? I’d call him fit, but that’s not fit. That’s like, “Hi, I eat muscle for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and now I’m just all muscle.”

I wipe at my chin, unsure whether it’s lemonade splatter or I’m drooling. I’m probably drooling. I wasn’t paying attention to much of him yesterday when he was acting all crazy on my front step. I just wanted him gone. To be honest, while he was babbling, I was trying to dig in the back of my brain for my old high school karate moves in case he tried something on me. Looking at him now, I wish he had.

He lifts his hand, threading his large hand through his hair and dragging his fingers down his hard chest covered in a dusting of hair. “Oh boy, where’s that hand going?” I mumble, licking my lips. Oh yeah. I see where this is going. Yep, oh yeah… Did I just moan?

Oh, hell yeah I did, but it’s so worth it. His hand dips down into his board shorts and he adjusts himself. Feel free to pull them down. Show us the goods, I think, mentally visualizing just how big his junk is. He’s a pretty big guy. Big hands. Theory says, and all.

Watching him fondle himself in all his hot glory, my curiosity piques. How old is he really? He sure had a reason to take offense by my calling him old. He certainly doesn’t look old. He surely looks a zillion times hotter than Jimmy, and he was only twenty-eight. I’m not an age wizard, but if I had to guess, I’d say late thirties, early forties. Definitely a bit out of my age range. Why? No idea. No real reason screaming stay away. Well, besides the major one being he wants to evict me, tear down my Gran’s life of memories, and probably build a gym in its place.

Yeah, that’s a good enough reason.

It also reminds me it’s the guys who look appealing on the outside that usually turn out to be dicks on the inside.

I NEED MORE THAN 5 STARS DAMMIT!!!!!

Smoking hot chemistry – check.

Two insanely, lovable characters – check.

Solid, flawless writing – check.

Intense, heart pounding story – check.

Perfection in a book – CHECK CHECK CHECK!

20% was all it took for me to fall head over heels with this book. 20% in for me and I never wanted it to end. I honestly think I’ve found my new favourite Ward & Keeland book. I honestly think I love a Ward & Keeland hero more than Graham *gasps*. Yes I said it and I don’t regret it. Rush is PHENOMENAL! I’ve fallen head over heels in love with him. I just CANNOT EXPLAIN him well enough to fully tell you how incredible he is!

Rebel Heir is one of those books that just takes you away. Away from the world and all the things happening around you. Vi & Penelope have a way with their writing that is indescribable. They catapult you INTO the story, they make you a part of it and everything seems so real. Not many authors have this ability at all, in my opinion. But Vi & Penelope nail it every time.

As this is the first of a duet it ends with a SHOCKER. A shock-er! But the angst and the build up and the overall feel is so, so WORTH IT! I actually don’t want to tell you ANYTHING ELSE about this book because it will spoil it. You just cannot understand how amazing it is until you READ IT. And you MUST!

Rebel Heir is a sweet and hella sexy novel that builds this duet perfectly. The characters are insanely charismatic. The story is angsty and super addictive. I just love EVERYTHING about it!!

OMFG! I’m sitting here trying to write this review through teary eyes and wet cheeks. There is a reason Marni Mann is one of my absolute favorite authors, and this book just solidified it even more.

I can’t really go into the story because it’s an experience you deserve to have without it being ruinded, so I’m going to tell you about the emotional roller coaster ride that I just went on for the last 4 hours. Yes, 4 hours straight. Once I picked up this book, I wasn’t putting it down for NOTHING! I literally sat in my car for 2 hours while my son had baseball practice because I couldn’t part with it. It was too cold to read outside. I regret nothing.

This book shows how beautifully broken hearts can try do hard to deny things, but in the end fate wins! These two did not have it easy, and what they’ve gone through makes you fall in love with them even more. The chemistry between these two was OFF THE CHARTS SMOKING HOT!!! But the obstacles they conquered is what made this story all that and more.

I highly recommend you read this book. You can certainly read it a standalone but I highly recommend you read Signed. It lets you know all the characters better. Bravo Marni. I bow down to you!

Aimee every single time I pick up one of your books, I’m transported to a different world
A world where happiness and bliss is all you feel. This book made laugh. It made me cry. It made my heart flutter. Most of all it made me feel whole.

Wren was definitely a character I knew I would hold close to my heart. What can I say, I love damaged people. Watching him navigate his way through unknown territory was a beautiful thing. I loved watching his journey unfold.

Dare, oh Dare. How can you not love him. He is that ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. He had this bright light about him that made everyone smile. I loved watching him worm his way into Wren’s heart (and his pants 😝).

Going back to Blissville is always a special trip down memory lane, getting to see all our beloved characters from previous books. I can’t wait for the next masterpiece that you send my way.

We didn’t say anything on our way up to Dare’s room because neither of us wanted to risk waking Ralph. We were lucky that we didn’t get caught when we pulled that stunt in the laundry room. Okay, the stunt that I pulled. I knew that Ralph liked me, and I even suspected he knew that his grandson had become very important to me, but that didn’t give me the right to be disrespectful in his home. Review- Until Sunrise by Sarah O’Rourke

Another heartwarming book by Sarah O’Rourke. This dynamic duo never fails to make me laugh, be happy, be frustrated, cry, and then feel like I’ve just read a masterpiece. This was a quick read as part of the Aurora Rose Reynolds kindle world, and I believe this series wouldn’t have been the same without Sarah’s contribution.

Michelle didn’t have the picture perfect family growing up which made her weary of any relationships with men. At the age of 25,she’s doing anything to try to lose her virginity. Needless to say, these dating apps aren’t quite what she expected. After waiting for blind date for almost an hour, Luka barges his way to her table and into her mind. She tries so hard to resist, but that Luka is the perfect specimen of a man. There’s no way I would’ve been able to hold out as long as she did.

Luka grew up with parents that were married almost immediately and still going strong 40 years later, so when his eyes land on Michelle, he knows he’s found his forever. Watching this man and his unrelenting pursuit for what he wants just made my heart so happy. Who doesn’t want a man like that?

Sarah has never failed to deliver an alpha male that I haven’t fallen head over heels in love with, and Luka just added to the list. I cried the entire epilogue. It was so beautiful. Another Sarah O’Rourke masterpiece!

How did the two of you begin writing together?

We met in an online writing group, found out that we were writing similar type stories and plotlines, and soon became fast friends! After a few months, we started beta reading for each other, and that soon morphed into “Ummmm, just help me out with this one paragraph, ‘kay?” Needless to say, it grew into much more than just a paragraph or two when we started writing whole stories together. That was over 9 years ago…and wow! Life has surely changed so much during that time. We call ourselves Crazy One and Crazy Two — for VERY obvious reasons!

2. Where did the concept for Until Sunrise come from?

Until Sunrise is based in the Happily Ever Alpha Kindle World (Aurora Rose Reynolds.) Our characters were very briefly mentioned in ARR’s book Until Ashlyn. We had the great pleasure of giving a romantic (and funny!) backstory to Michelle and Luke that we hope does justice to ARR’s amazing world!

3. What is your favourite type of book to read?

Romance. Romance. And MORE Romance!!!

4. Out of all the books you’ve written, do you have a favourite?

Oh, we’re not supposed to have favorites, right? Well, don’t tell the other little book children, but we are both exceedingly fond of Man of Honor. Zeke is the ultimate hero that we just love to pieces!

5. What is your writing process?

Our process usually starts with a few glasses of wine and a 4-hour phone call. Crazy One usually has some wild-ass idea for an off-the-wall story, so we start with 30 minutes of Crazy Two trying to talk Crazy One out of the latest adventure. It seldom works. Then, Crazy Two resigns herself to 4-6 months of writing hell. (FYI: In case you’re wondering, Crazy Two knows the battle has been lost when Crazy One lets out a war cry of “Bitch, let’s do this thing!”)

At the beginning, we usually talk and talk and talk about plotlines, settings, characters, etc. before the first word is written. Do NOT underestimate the amount of talking that we do. We then make sure that all of our crazy meds are filled and available at a moment’s notice. Then Crazy One will start writing – and after an inordinate amount of bitching, whining, and complaining, she sends the chapters to Crazy Two for review. Crazy Two then drinks a few bottles of wine, puts on her football helmet, and goes to battle with Crazy One over any changes. This can get bloody.

When the book is finished, Crazy Two then edits and rewrites…and sends it back to Crazy One, who has her Momma and the Crazy Crew Street Team read it while simultaneously yelling about the ridiculous and wicked cuts that were made to her precious manuscript. Momma, who obviously was a Grammar Nazi in a previous life, then lectures both Crazies on their lack of knowledge concerning basic English language structure. (Ignore Momma…she’s a little bitter about all those dollars spent on Crazy One’s college education. Hi, Momma!)

In the end, Crazy Two prepares the covers (which usually sends Crazy One into hiding because Crazy Two becomes slightly psychotic during design time. It’s not her fault…no one appreciates how much she SUFFERS for her art!) Then we publish the book and pray. And drink. A lot. There ya go! Does that sound confusing? Imagine how we feel!

6. If you could meet one author, who would it be and why?

Well, we’ve been blessed to meet so maaaaany of our idols recently. BUT…if we were able to turn back the clock, we’d want to meet Margaret Mitchell…hands down. In our opinion, that woman wrote the best alpha male ever to grace the pages of a book. We would love to just have 5 tiny, short minutes with her to pick her brain and find out what motivated her to write Gone With the Wind and how she managed to develop such amazing characters! (And we’re both born and raised in the South…)

7. Where does your inspiration come from?

There’s an old saying that recommends that you “Write what you know.” We’ve taken that to heart, and most of our books are set in the South (southern United States) and are about Southern belles and their kick-ass alphas. Since both of us were born and raised in the South, we’re pretty well-versed in how romance works down here, and we often find ourselves including scenes or dialogue that we have heard or actually said!

8. What are your favourite things about signings? Do you get nervous at them?

Oh, Crazy One is our signing guru. She loves to interact with our current readers and meet new readers! Signings are also a time for to be fangirls and get to meet the other authors that we love and admire!

9. What inspired you to become writers?

We each started for different reasons but ALMOST at the same time. Crazy One started writing in order to deal with her husband’s military deployment. Crazy Two began writing in order to relax from work issues.

10. What are your next upcoming releases?

We’re currently working on Copy Cat, which will be a companion story to our paranormal shifter romance Cat Scratch Fever. Then, we’ll be working on Maggie and Ice’s story (from our Passion in Paradise series.) We’re not quite sure on the title yet, but we do have it narrowed down to two choices! That’s progress for us!

It’s hard to believe that there have been 17 books in this amazing series. I’ve been reading since right after these books started. I have fallen more and more in love with Brie and her Sir with every single release. We have met some of the most intriguingly divine doms and they have all taken my breath away. From Sir to Noss, from Faelen to Rytsar and all the deliciousness in between, this series has made my heart trip in my chest and made me sigh, sigh, sigh.

Bound By Love is different to for me though. This story seemed to bring everything together. All the struggles, all the unanswered questions… everything was here. The flashbacks, the memories… this wonderful sense of family between Brie, Sir and Rytsar. It was astounding. To see Sir back in his wonderful dominant self and to experience the love that he had for his daughter. No little girl is more loved than Baby Davis. She is special, even down to her name.

And while it may seem that Rytsar is a huge part of this story and he pops in a lot, the truth is that he IS an integral part of the Sir and Brie story. He’s Brie’s knight and protector. He’s Sir’s brother – truer and closer than blood. He should have been in the delivery room. He should care so much for his moye soltnse – his niece, his very sun. Whether they realize it or not, Rytsar is Sir and Brie’s missing piece and watching them together just made my heart so happy. There’s no competition, no animosity, no rivalry for Brie’s love. They both have it and they both know it. It was glorious. It was a bond that nothing and no one could shake. Many had tried – and failed miserably.

This chapter in Brie and Sir’s life was wonderful to be a part of. Sir is still the same sensual, sexy dominant man that he always was but added to that? Fatherhood. And Thane Davis wears it brilliantly. Add also the fact that this man knows with all his heart what he had to lose and how much his wife and family mean to him. For Brie’s part, she is truly a mother but still very much her husband’s submissive. Her bubbly joy tickled me and her passion still knocked me out. She is by far one of my favorite female characters of all time!

There is so much more to Sir and Brie’s story. But not just them. Reading this story and seeing all the many possibilities, I am so excited to continue this journey with these amazing characters! Bravo, Mistress. So very well done!

Review – Long Shot by Kennedy Ryan

I’ve tried very hard to put my feelings into words for this book, and words really do escape me. Everything I could say, anything at all seems inadequate for the story that I finished. I’ve been fortunate as blogger to get to read some amazing stories from some truly talented authors. I’ve seen them take risks, delve into controversy and break glass ceilings. All of these things wrapped in true love stories that melt the heart and affirm that some things are worth fighting for.

Long Shot shattered everything I thought I could feel.

It is raw and at times brutal. Honest. Eye opening. Thought provoking. So very real. It left me in triumphant tears and it made my heart ache. Long Shot was filled with cold hard truths and made me look into places that I never believed I would and examine sports culture in ways that I truly never thought of – the ugly, the violence, the cover ups and money used to make thing simply disappear.

Still, underneath of all the ugly, all the anguish and all the anger there is a beautiful love between August and Iris that I envied and coveted. It was magic from the first glimpse and chemistry that flowed like warm honey. These two were meant to be, even if circumstances were working against them. As time passed and they were separated by more than the miles, the bond between August and Iris still grew stronger and more intense. I have to give it to August. This man was determined and he stayed true to his heart. Always true to his love for Iris. Even in her lowest of lows, Iris found her light in August. There was no denying that the man wearing number 33 was her center.

Long Shot is one of those stories that will stay in your mind for days after it is finished but has marked your soul for much longer. It is brilliant, an emotional ride that left me swaying. Beautifully written words with fantastic characters who simply breathe their truth. There were moments of sigh worthy romance and fan your face and cross your legs steamy sex. There were moments that I couldn’t read. It hurt too much and felt too big. I always came back. I had to. I would not have missed this for anything.

Congratulations, Kennedy. This was everything and a whole lot more. I could not have missed this. Bravo to you!

Getting a new series from Carly Phillips is always so a treat! This time we get to meet the Wards, three sisters that have been through so much and are now facing their past pain and trying to build brighter futures.

This series begins with the incredible Halley Ward. The daughter of a drug addict and a victim of abuse in foster care, Halley has isolated herself from her wealthy family and found solace in her Rosewood beach house and in her art. Rescued by her aunt, Halley has felt that she never truly fit into her new family, their new home and new school. Only one person seemed to understand her pain – Kane Harmon. He was in the midst of his own loss when she arrived at the high school in Rosewood and recognized a kindred spirit. He kept her safe from bullies and she was always grateful for his help.

Fearless was a fantastic read and reminded me that Carly can certainly give her readers amazing family sagas. Emotionally charged, dynamic from the very beginning. I loved Halley and Kane’s slow build to a sizzling relationship. Kane is a perfectly imperfect hero with a big heart and sexy alpha moves. Halley is hurt, unwilling to trust and still so very lost. Her shame, anger and sadness over being abandoned are such a part of who she is. It is easy to understand why she would run from the love her family and a truly wonderful man. What example has she really had of what real love can truly be? Watching Halley grow into her real self was amazing!

Seriously, everything this woman touches turns to gold! I read through this book so fast I thought my kindle would malfunction. This book was packed with emotion, danger, and a damn roller coaster ride! I don’t want to let them go. I’ve grown so attached to all the characters, not just the main characters. That’s how you know it’s a great story.

I really don’t want to go into any detail because so many twists and turns come from nowhere. I’m usually pretty good at predicting what’s going to happen when I’m reading, but Angel kept me on my toes. Just know this is a phenomenal book and you must read book 1 first.

Holy hell, Jodi never ceases to amaze me. Her books trap you and pull you into the pages. I have loved every book that I’ve read by her, and I hope to be enjoying them for years to come. I’m finding it hard to get a great MC book lately, but I can always count on Jodi to ho above and beyond no matter what she writes.

This book sucks you into a vortex that’s never ending. You will be glued to your kindle until you reach the dreaded words “the end”. I will be on pins and needles waiting for book 3. Trigger just gets better and better. You never know he’s going to do, so he keeps you on your toes! Phenomenal job once again!
